New Year Resolution Essay Example #1

As the calendar turns and a new year dawns upon us, it is a time of reflection, renewal, and the opportunity for personal growth. New Year’s resolutions have long been a tradition, allowing individuals to set intentions and goals for the coming year. For me, this tradition is not just a fleeting promise but a chance to embark on a journey of self-improvement.

Another resolution I have is to expand my knowledge and broaden my horizons. Learning should be a lifelong endeavor, and I believe that continuous education is key to personal growth. Whether it’s through reading books, attending seminars, or taking up new hobbies, I aspire to constantly seek knowledge, explore diverse perspectives, and embrace new opportunities for intellectual development. By doing so, I hope to nurture my curiosity, deepen my understanding of the world, and become a more well-rounded individual.

Additionally, I resolve to foster stronger connections with loved ones and build meaningful relationships. In today’s digital age, it is easy to get caught up in a virtual world, often overlooking the importance of genuine human connection. I want to invest time and effort in nurturing my relationships, engaging in meaningful conversations, and creating lasting memories with family and friends. By being present and actively listening, I hope to strengthen the bonds that enrich my life and bring joy to those around me.

New Year Resolution Essay Example #2

As the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, a sense of possibility fills the air. It’s a time when we bid farewell to the old and eagerly embrace the new, armed with resolutions that promise personal growth and positive change. This year, I am determined to embark on a transformative journey through my New Year’s resolutions.

First and foremost, I resolve to cultivate a mindset of gratitude and positivity. In a world often defined by negativity and challenges, it is crucial to acknowledge and appreciate the blessings that surround us. Each day, I will strive to find something to be grateful for, whether it’s a simple pleasure or a significant achievement. By shifting my perspective to one of gratitude, I hope to nurture a positive outlook that permeates every aspect of my life.

Lastly, I resolve to make a positive impact in the world around me. Small acts of kindness can create ripples of change that extend far beyond our immediate sphere. I will strive to contribute to my community through volunteering, supporting causes I care about, and spreading kindness wherever I go. By recognizing the power of my actions, no matter how small, I can be part of a collective effort to create a more compassionate and harmonious world.

New Year Resolution Essay Example #3

First and foremost, I resolve to achieve a healthier work-life balance. In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to become consumed by professional responsibilities, leaving little time for personal pursuits and relationships. I will set clear boundaries, carve out dedicated time for self-care, and strive to be fully present in my personal life. By nurturing a harmonious balance between work and leisure, I aim to enhance my overall well-being and cultivate stronger connections with loved ones.

In addition, I resolve to prioritize self-reflection and personal growth. Regular self-reflection allows us to gain insights into our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, enabling us to make intentional choices. I will dedicate time for introspection, journaling, and setting personal goals. By embracing self-reflection, I can identify areas for improvement, celebrate achievements, and chart a course for personal growth and development.

Furthermore, I aspire to embrace sustainability and contribute to a healthier planet. I will adopt eco-friendly practices such as reducing waste, conserving energy, and supporting sustainable initiatives. By making conscious choices that minimize my ecological footprint, I can contribute to the preservation of our environment and inspire others to do the same.

250 Words Essay on My New Year Resolution

The advent of a new year always brings with it a sense of renewal and a chance to better ourselves. As we bid adieu to 2021 and welcome 2022, we inherently seek to improve aspects of our lives. My New Year resolution, therefore, is to cultivate mindfulness, a trait often overlooked in our fast-paced world.

The Importance of Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention to the present. It involves acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. The importance of mindfulness cannot be overstated, especially in the context of a world that is increasingly characterized by frenetic activity and stress.

Approach to Achieving Mindfulness

The first step to achieving mindfulness is to set aside a few minutes each day for quiet contemplation. This will involve disconnecting from digital devices and focusing on the present moment. This practice, while seemingly simple, requires a high degree of discipline and consistency, especially in the face of constant distractions.

Expected Outcomes

By practicing mindfulness, I hope to cultivate a more balanced and peaceful state of mind. This resolution will not only help me to manage stress more effectively but also enhance my cognitive abilities, thereby improving my academic performance.

In conclusion, my New Year resolution is a journey towards self-improvement and mental well-being. By cultivating mindfulness, I aim to create a more harmonious relationship with my environment and myself. As we step into 2022, I invite my fellow students to join me in this endeavor, as we strive to make the most of the opportunities that lie ahead.

500 Words Essay on My New Year Resolution

Understanding new year resolutions.

New Year resolutions are essentially personal goals or objectives set at the beginning of a year. They serve as a roadmap to guide our actions and decisions throughout the year. The tradition of New Year resolutions dates back to ancient times, with the Romans making promises to the god Janus, after whom the month of January is named. Today, these resolutions have evolved into a self-imposed framework for personal development.

My New Year Resolution

My New Year resolution for the forthcoming year is to enhance my critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In an era of rapid technological advancement and unprecedented challenges, these two skills are of paramount importance. They not only help in academic pursuits but are also crucial in navigating the complexities of life.

Why Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving?

Implementing the resolution.

The implementation of this resolution involves a multi-pronged approach. Firstly, I plan to engage more actively in debates and discussions, both within and outside the academic sphere. This would expose me to diverse perspectives, thereby enhancing my critical thinking abilities. Secondly, I intend to participate in problem-solving competitions and workshops, which would provide a platform to apply and refine these skills.

Challenges and Overcoming Them

While the path towards achieving this resolution is fraught with challenges, they are not insurmountable. The primary hurdle is the inherent bias and preconceived notions that often cloud our judgement. Overcoming this requires conscious effort and constant self-reflection. Another challenge is the fear of failure, which can deter us from attempting to solve complex problems. This can be overcome by adopting a growth mindset, viewing failures as stepping stones towards success.

Four Steps to Write a New Year’s Resolution You’ll Keep

Writing down any type of goal—including New Year’s resolutions—can help you stick with them! Below, we’ll go over why it helps and how to write the perfect resolutions.

Goal Get ‘Em

Let’s state the obvious: Most people don’t fulfill their New Year’s resolutions.

So, don’t beat yourself up if you didn’t reach the goals you set for yourself last year. The fact that you’re here means you want this upcoming year to be different. And guess what? You’re already off to a good start.

Successfully setting resolutions involves much more than just jotting them down on a sticky note. Below, we’ll discuss the importance of writing down your goals and then outline four easy-to-follow steps that’ll help you craft a resolution you’ll truly stick with.

Graphic shows crying Peter Parker meme with text that reads "When it's the lady day of the year and you haven't achieved your resolutions"

There are two major reasons why you should write down your goals.

It serves as a visual cue and daily reminder.

Having your goals written down gives you something you can easily refer to and access whenever you need to.

The daily hustle and bustle of life makes it easy to get distracted from our goals. Sometimes, things get so busy, we completely forget them. A paper with your goals written on them, whether tucked away in your wallet or purse or taped up on your refrigerator, works as a visual cue to get started or keep working on pursuing your goals.

A goal that lives solely in your mind is at risk of being forgotten.

It “encodes” the goal into your brain.

The “ generation effect ” explains that information is better memorized if generated in one’s own mind, compared to information that is only read. You can leverage this phenomenon by formulating goals in your mind and then writing them down to encourage your brain to deeply analyze, process, and internalize them.

Perfectly Pen Your Goals

Even if no one is going to see the goals you write down, they should still be written flawlessly. Why take effort to craft something so important only for it to be riddled with spelling, grammar, and punctuation mistakes?

Ensure your resolutions are flawless with LanguageTool—a multilingual writing assistant than ensures your text is error-free and styled to perfection.

Now that you understand why you should write down your goals, let’s get to the good part! Here are the four easy steps to follow that’ll help you achieve your resolution.

1. Focus on one goal.

You might be tempted to work on two, three, or even five resolutions this upcoming year. But instead of giving a small percentage of your effort to several goals, it’s better to give 100% to just one. Ask yourself, “What is my priority?” Then, make that your resolution for the year.

And if you have numerous priorities you want to accomplish, at least focus on them one at a time. Once you’ve completed one, move on to the next. Remember, our brains aren’t great at multitasking.

2. Split the major goal into smaller goals.

Once you’ve decided on a resolution, split it into smaller, easier-to-achieve goals. For example, the thought of writing a book might stop you in your tracks. But it’ll seem much more attainable if you tell yourself to write one chapter a month.

Write a book. Write a chapter. The latter is infinitely less daunting.

3. Decide on which actions you’ll have to take.

Once you’ve decided on a goal, think about the specific actions you’ll have to take to help you reach it. Let’s stick to the writing example. There’s much more to writing a book than composing it. You also have to take time to brainstorm, research, outline, write drafts, edit, and proofread.

You can think of the actionable steps required for just about any goal. Do you want to run faster? You’ll have to also take time to stretch, eat an optimal diet, and strength train to support your leg muscles.

4. Set a schedule.

Now that you have a list of actions you can take to help you achieve your resolution, it’s time to create a detailed schedule. It should look something like this:

If I want to write a book by writing one chapter a month, I’ll have to write for one hour, two times a week. I’ll take one additional day of the week to brainstorm and research, and another day to edit and proofread.

In other words, break down your goal by action, and set a precise amount of time you want to be working on each action.

new year resolution essay english

We’re not here to provide any false sense of security. Life is going to get hectic. You’ll be surrounded by distractions. And there will be days when you’re not motivated at all. But when you follow the steps listed above, you’ll make yourself less susceptible to the chaos of everyday life, and more likely to fulfill your resolution.

So, goal get’ em!

New Year Essay in English - 100, 200, 500 Words

New Year, a day that sparks joy in most of our hearts and minds, is celebrated in vastly different forms depending on the culture one belongs to. New Year is a set day that marks the start of a new year. Most of us celebrate New Year’s on January 1st. However, different cultures, such as Chinese, Islamic, and Jewish, have their own religious calendars and may celebrate New Year’s Day at different times of the year. Here are a few sample essays on “New Year”.

New Year Essay in English - 100, 200, 500 Words

100 Words Essay on New Year

New Year’s Day marks it as an auspicious and wonderful day for people around the globe. It is a festival that is celebrated by everybody around the globe, irrespective of their culture and faith. It is a festival where everyone comes together and celebrates a day that marks a new beginning in everyone’s life. It is a day when people evaluate and take valuable lessons from the experiences they faced in the previous year and use them to do better in the next year of their life. Often, people make resolutions to lead this New Year with a positive mindset and in hopes of making next year better than the previous year.

200 Words Essay on New Year

The new year refers to the first day of the year. As New Year approaches, people become excited and welcome it with great zeal and great enthusiasm. A lot of people see the new year as an opportunity to make resolutions and commit themselves to causes that they’ve wanted to pursue for a long. People’s new year resolutions are usually about evaluating their shortcomings and working on themselves personally, professionally, and socially.

People also welcome the new year by renovating their houses, putting up lights and decorations in their homes, buying cakes, lighting fireworks, going out for picnics or meeting family, friends, or relatives, and being excited for the auspicious day. People are both enthusiastic and calm as a new sense of hope washes over everybody as they prepare for things that the new year will bring them.

Traditions Of New Year

One of the most common traditions on New Year's Day is the making of resolutions. Many people resolve to make positive changes in their lives, such as eating healthier, exercising more, or quitting a bad habit. While some people are able to stick to their resolutions, others find it more difficult to follow through on their goals. Regardless of whether or not resolutions are successful, the act of making them is an important way for people to set intentions for the year ahead and strive for self-improvement.

500 Words Essay on New Year

As the New Year comes along, it signifies a fresh start and something to contemplate about. It gives people a way to set new goals and ideologies for themselves.

As everyone celebrates New Year, different cultures celebrate New Year differently. Although there are several examples, here are a few of them.

For around 15 days, many Asian countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, and mainly China celebrate Spring Year, a.k.a New year. Because the first day of the new year signifies the end of the coldest part of winter and the beginning of the spring months, it is given the name "Spring Festival." It is observed at the beginning of the solar year, according to the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar, which also shows the moon phase.

The Lantern Festival, which is observed on the fifteenth day of the first calendar month and serves as the festival's culmination, is traditionally held on the eve of the first day of the Lunar New Year.

Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah, which translates to "Head of the Year," is when Jews around the world mark the beginning of the new year. Rosh Hashanah is seen as a time of celebration, reflection, and acknowledgement of the end of another year. On the first and second days of Tishrei, the seventh month in the Hebrew calendar, it is welcomed. Traditions associated with the occasion include eating foods like dates, leeks, beets, and pomegranates, as well as blowing the shofar, or ram's horn, at synagogues.

For Nowruz, which means a new day, at the beginning of spring, around 73 million people in Iran and 30 million people in Afghanistan celebrate the rebirth of nature for 13 days. It is one of the oldest holidays in history and is sometimes referred to as the Persian New Year. It has been observed for nearly 3,900 years.

Pahela Baishakh

In a state of India known as Bengal, people celebrate a festival called Pahela Baishakh (which roughly translates to ‘first month’) in the month of April. According to their calendar, it marks the start of their New Year. They celebrate it because, during this time, the harvesting season starts. To greet each other on New Year, people use the phrase “Shubho Noboborsha”, which roughly translates to “Happy New Year.”

How I Celebrated New Year?

As the clock struck midnight on New Year's Eve, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation for what the coming year would bring. I had spent the day preparing for the celebrations, decorating my home with sparkling streamers and festive balloons, and cooking up a storm in the kitchen.

As the countdown to midnight began, we all huddled together, eagerly waiting for the moment when the new year would arrive. When the final seconds ticked away, we erupted into cheers and hugs, ringing in the new year with a sense of hope and joy. I felt grateful to be surrounded by loved ones and was filled with a sense of optimism for what the coming year would bring.

As the night drew to a close and we said our goodbyes, I couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth and happiness, knowing that I had welcomed the new year in the best way possible – surrounded by the people I care about most.

How to Write a New Year’s Resolution

  • December 30, 2015

A New Year’s Resolution is a list of goals you’d like to accomplish in the upcoming year. This tradition is followed by millions of people every year, and it’s a great way to start the year with a positive mind and clear goals!

Brad Paisley Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365-page book. Write a good one

1. Self-improvement is the key

It is important to have goals that will help you be a better person. Doing more sports, eating healthier, donating to charity, and learning a new language or instrument are the kind of things that people tend to write in their New Year’s Resolution. Also, focus on yourself and not the people around you.

2. Write in future tenses

You have to calendar time for yourself

3. Set a timeframe and be specific

A study by finder.com.au showed that 33% of people didn’t keep track of their progress after a few weeks into the year, and another 23% of people simply forgot about their resolutions. If you push yourself to accomplish a goal by a certain date rather than a whole year, it is less likely that you will get carried away. Remember to write down specific goals, such as “eating one piece of fruit every day” instead of “eating healthier,” so you can measure your success!

4. Keep it short and realistic

It’s better to have realistic goals that you know you can accomplish than having goals you might never reach. The same study by finder.com.au showed that “the most common reason for participants failing their New Years’ Resolutions was setting themselves unrealistic goals (35%)”. Stay focused on a few realistic goals instead of having a long list of impossibilities.

5. Get out of your comfort zone and have fun!

New Year Essay 200 Words in English – 4 best New Year Essay

Happy new year essay in 200 words #1.

The New Year is the day when a new calendar year begins. The New Year is celebrated on January 1st (New Year’s Day). According to the Gregorian calendar, January 1 is considered as the first day of the year. Ahead of the new year, people start planning for their celebrations and resolutions. Like many other festivals, New Year also brings joy and happiness, irrespective of the culture and caste.

In Western countries, New Year’s Day is surrounded by many traditions and customs. The night before, known as New Year’s Eve, people throw parties and feasts. They stay up late, counting down the minutes until midnight. Fireworks displays are frequently organized, and people flock to the streets at midnight to watch them. At midnight, it is customary to shake hands with others and wish them a “Happy New Year.” Many people make New Year’s resolutions or self-promises.

Watch-night services (also known as Watch-night Mass) are held late on New Year’s Eve in many Christian traditions. This gives them the opportunity to reflect on the previous year and make confession, as well as to prepare for the coming year by praying and making New Year’s resolutions.

People across the globe celebrate New Year on different days depending upon the different communities they belong to. In India, the new year is observed on January 01 as per the English calendar. However, as per the Hindu scripture, the new year is marked between March and April.

Even though every community celebrates the New Year according to its on the calendar, the English calendar is majorly used to commemorate globally. Most countries celebrate the new year after 12:00 AM in December and welcome January 01 with an open heart. Lavish meals are made, firecrackers are used, people sing songs to bestow good luck for the coming year.

As the new year refers to the first day of the year, it tends to bring happiness and hope to the lives of people. It marks the fresh beginning of life where people can leave behind all their negative energies and start afresh. There is a common tradition of new year resolutions wherein people set different goals for themselves to achieve in that year. It helps them to take small steps towards positive energy and build a good life for themselves and their beloved one’s.

New Year is just a few hours away and people are ready to welcome it with a new zeal and enthusiasm. There has always been a buzz in the world regarding the new year celebrations. However, similar to last year, we are still in the middle of the COVID pandemic. Covid cases are rising again in the world and this has led to the cancellation and restrictions in new year celebrations in the country and around the world.

Once again, people are forced to pack themselves within the four walls of their houses. However, this is a blessing in disguise as now a lot of people are prepared to welcome the new year with their families. Now, they can simply celebrate with their families hoping and praying that the year 2022 fills their life with the strength to fight off all the problems and hindrances in their way. The year 2021 was not very good when it comes to normal business operations, lifestyle, finance etc. Therefore, people are hoping and praying that 2022 comes with a fresh breeze of positivity and a concrete solution to this deadly virus that has compromised our normal way of living.

Short New Year Essay in 200 Words #4

2021 was not one of the greatest years for any person around the world be it financially, career-wise or on the health front. Each one of us has suffered some sort of setback in any of these fields this year. However, with 2022 people are hoping that these sufferings come to an end and we start living our lives like the pre-pandemic era. Although, new year celebration plans have been cancelled owing to the reason that the COVID cases are rising again. The government was also forced to put restrictions on crowds, party spots, again citing people’s safety.

However, just like any other year, we are hoping that this year brings positivity, motivation and good health to everyone around the world. With a new year comes a new year resolution and we as people must take an oath to be sincere in our efforts irrespective of us being a working professional, student or anyone else. We must have faith and confidence in ourselves to get through any worry or trouble. Easy Steps to Write a New Year Resolution Essay

Alright, let's go. In this section, we will learn how to write a New Year Resolution essay. There might not be a direct format for this, but we will try to break down the process into 9 simple steps to ensure that the end result is a better version of you.

Step 1: Choose Your Writing Partner

While you can initiate the essay-writing process with paper and pencil, there's a risk of losing your work. That's why we recommend utilizing writing software. Our choice is WPS Office for crafting our New Year Resolution essay. Why, you ask? It offers a comprehensive package - WPS Writer serves as our canvas for compiling the essay, WPS Presentation aids in jotting down ideas and creating flowcharts to generate new thoughts. WPS Office

Step 2: Reflect on the Challenge

Now that we have our writing partner, the next step is to determine the purpose and the question we aim to answer in our essay. This is a crucial part, as a New Year Resolution essay centers around what you aspire to achieve through your goals. Let's formulate a New Year Resolution question to proceed.

Example New Year Resolution Essay question

Step 3: Define Your Vision

Now, let's strategize on how to address our question. What are our intended achievements? In crafting our objectives, keep in mind that this plan spans the entire year. Therefore, diversify your goals across professional, educational, health, or personal domains. Consider listing out specific goals for the year.

 Set up New Year Goals

Pro Tip : Optimal goal-setting involves using the SMART criteria. This simple tool ensures that our goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound, leading to more effective results.

Step 4: Prepare a concise Thesis Statement

Now, we will create a thesis statement—a brief statement that answers our main question from Step 2. This thesis statement will encompass all the goals and objectives we listed, aiming to provide a succinct response to our question. Incorporate this thesis statement into your introductory paragraph.

New Year Resolution Thesis Statement

Step 5: Start your introduction

The next step is to write your introductory paragraph; remember, the introduction helps your readers understand what they are going to be reading about as they move forward in your essay. So, in this introduction, we can incorporate a hook - something that will engage the reader and help them understand the goals you're selecting and why you're selecting them. A great example of a hook for your New Year's resolution essay could be:

"New Year's magic whispers promises of growth. This essay is my map to a year brimming with purpose and triumphs."

Pro tip: Begin your introductory paragraph with a motivational quote to make the introduction more compelling and engaging.

Step 6: Create your Topic Sentences

Once we have our thesis statement, it's crucial to write clear topic sentences as openers for each goal. These sentences should briefly introduce and discuss each objective. Remember, at this point, our main tasks are to ensure our goals are noted down and well-understood. This step is pivotal, taking up a significant portion of the initial writing process for the New Year Resolution essay.

Step 7: Write Body Paragraphs

Now that we have our entire plan – the question we are addressing, our statement, and our goals – it's time to craft body paragraphs for each goal. In these paragraphs, we'll outline the action plan we've decided upon. For instance, if your goal is to read a book every month, you should have a clear set of instructions, such as the genre you're interested in, the number of pages you aim to read, and what to do if you miss a day.

New Year Resolution Body paragraphs

Pro Tip : It's always beneficial to include your motivation for achieving each goal. This way, if you ever feel lost, a quick review of your essay can provide guidance and get you back

Step 8: Conclude

Now that we are at the end of our essay, it is important to conclude it thoroughly. How can we do this effectively? Reconnect with the hook that we started in the introduction. Discuss how the journey outlined in your essay leads back to the promises of growth mentioned in the hook. Then, reflect on how you envision yourself if you successfully achieve all your New Year's resolutions.

Step 9: Revise and Edit

Take a careful look at your essay and make it shine. Check for any spelling, grammar, or punctuation mistakes. Make sure every word is clear and makes sense. When you pay attention to these details, your writing will look more professional. Think of it as adding a touch of literary stardust to your work, making it sparkle and stand out.

Step 10 : Finalize the Format

Imagine your essay as a well-crafted outfit. Dress it in the right formatting style, whether it's the classic MLA or the modern APA. Pay close attention to the details like font, spacing, and citation style, ensuring your creation is presented flawlessly. This final touch will elevate your essay, making it stand out as a polished work of art.

So, these are the steps, and by following them, users can ensure they can effortlessly compose their own New Year's resolution essay. Make sure to employ tips for crafting an effective New Year's resolution essay. Reflect, brainstorm ideas, unleash your creativity, and discover the best New Year's resolution ideas that truly propels long-term improvement for yourself.

1. The New Year: A Time for Reflection and a Time to Move Forward by Susanne Carlson

2. my new year’s resolution by francisco sáez, 3. my lonely new year’s eve party will consist of sadness, hope, and life-changing gratitude by dawn bevier, 4. the psychology of new years eve reflection by ben farrell, 5. why is new year’s eve so depressing by leila ettachfini, 1. what is the importance of new year’s resolutions, 2. different new year celebrations, 3. is new year a new beginning, 4. why some people find new year’s celebrations depressing, 5. are new year’s resolutions a waste of time.

“With reflection and attention to positive change, taking note of what we have learned on our journey up until now, can give us the opportunity to apply it to the future, to take with us what is helpful and to leave behind what is not.”

Carlson writes about the importance of reflection and learning from one’s mistakes for the new year ahead. She sees the new year as a time for new beginnings; she wants it to be the start of positive change for others, just as it has been for her. Reflection is essential, as it allows us to see what we can improve on and do better in the coming year.

“According to Goleman, the link between attention and excellence is behind almost all our achievements. Attention is needed not only to understand, learn or remember, but also to read the emotions of others, generate empathy and build good relationships. It is an asset that, despite being little known and despised, has great relevance in how we face life.”

Sáez briefly explains his new year’s resolution: to be more attentive. He wants to improve his attention and focus on forming better relationships with others, healthily using technology, and better his mental health. By reading the book Focus: The Hidden Driver of Excellence , he hopes to hone his attention for the new year and do better in the future. You might also be interested in these essays about celebration .

“And yes, I know this pandemic is not done with its destruction, but I also know we’re fighting back like hell and making progress. And that long-awaited day of celebration is now coming sooner rather than later. And when that day comes, I can’t help but believe that the world will be a better place. I know I will be a better person and millions of you will be as well.”

In this solemn piece, Bevier laments new year’s celebrations during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has killed millions. She is sad for those she has lost and the loss of the pre-pandemic life she loved. However, she hopes the next new year will not be like the last, and she has learned to be grateful for the more minor things in life. The pandemic has taught her a lot, but most importantly, to be optimistic for the future and to look ahead to the new year with hope, kindness, and gratitude.

“In reality, new years eve is no different to any other night of the year yet; we can’t help but assign some special meaning to the 31st of December. The psychological significance of the night can be a good thing, but it can also create tremendous anxiety for us.”

Farrell explains the psychological pressure of New Year’s Eve. This one night is no different from any other, but since it is the last one of the year, people feel the need to reflect not only on the day but the entire year. The imagery of big parties and “new beginnings” further add to the pressure, as people feel the need to have the “picture-perfect” new year. He says that while it can be helpful to use the beginning of the year as the start of positive change, it is more important to learn from one’s mistakes, no matter what time of the year.

“‘Anytime you let social convention dictate what you do rather than doing what feels best for you, you run the risk of anxiety, depression, and so on,’ says Dr. Kubiak. New Year’s Eve leaves this group with a tough choice: go out even though you really don’t want to or deal with the uncomfortable task of telling your friends that you’re going to sit this one out.”

Ettachfini explains new year’s eve from the perspective of those who get anxious or depressed during this time. Failure during the year, social anxiety, and the feeling of having to say goodbye to the year are all contributing factors. She cites information from Dr. Larry Kubiak, who says that depression and anxiety are normal, but it is essential to talk about them with a loved one to prevent their consuming of your life.

Why do we Celebrate?

Celebrating New Year's isn't just about throwing confetti and watching fireworks (although those are super fun!). New Year's is the moment when we get to decide what we want to write on that fresh page. It's a chance to think about the kind of person we want to be, the goals we want to achieve, and the fun we want to have. It's like having a superpower – the power to shape our own story!

Chaos and Confusion: Tech Outage Causes Disruptions Worldwide

Airlines grounded flights. Operators of 911 lines could not respond to emergencies. Hospitals canceled surgeries. Retailers closed for the day. And the actions all traced back to a batch of bad computer code.

A flawed software update sent out by a little-known cybersecurity company caused chaos and disruption around the world on Friday. The company, CrowdStrike , based in Austin, Texas, makes software used by multinational corporations, government agencies and scores of other organizations to protect against hackers and online intruders.

But when CrowdStrike sent its update on Thursday to its customers that run Microsoft Windows software, computers began to crash.

The fallout, which was immediate and inescapable, highlighted the brittleness of global technology infrastructure. The world has become reliant on Microsoft and a handful of cybersecurity firms like CrowdStrike. So when a single flawed piece of software is released over the internet, it can almost instantly damage countless companies and organizations that depend on the technology as part of everyday business.

“This is a very, very uncomfortable illustration of the fragility of the world’s core internet infrastructure,” said Ciaran Martin, the former chief executive of Britain’s National Cyber Security Center and a professor at the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University.

A cyberattack did not cause the widespread outage, but the effects on Friday showed how devastating the damage can be when a main artery of the global technology system is disrupted. It raised broader questions about CrowdStrike’s testing processes and what repercussions such software firms should face when flaws in their code cause major disruptions.
