How to write an essay on your favorite movie.

The question; how to write an essay on your favorite movie is one that film fans and cinephiles have asked for decades. But, is it even possible to create a well-written, meaningful essay about something as subjective as personal taste in cinema?

The answer to this question is, of course, a big yes. One thing you shouldn’t overlook, though, is that it can take a lot of time, plenty of effort, and lots of practice. And if you do not have all the time, your best bet could be to seek university assignment help .

Tips for Writing Essay on Favorite Movie

To help you get started on this all-important assignment, we’ve put together a few tips that really should make the process more manageable and fun. Here are six tips for writing the best essay on your favorite movie!

I. Choose a movie that you really enjoy and can talk about in detail

When it comes to choosing a movie to write about, it’s important to select a film that you’re truly passionate about. A film you’ve seen multiple times and can quote lines from is a great choice. You will find it easy writing about the film in detail and engage the reader in your essay. Keep in mind that it will be difficult to write a convincing and engaging essay if you’re not interested in the subject matter. So choose a movie that you really enjoy and can talk about at length for the best results.

II. Watch the movie again, taking note of the movie’s plot, the characters, and setting

Before writing anything, it’s important that you take a close look at the film you’ve chosen. This means watching it again, but this time with a critical eye. Pay attention to the story, the characters, and the film’s overall setting. Think about how these elements come together to create a cohesive whole. What themes are explored in the movie? What is it that the movie director was trying to communicate with their selections? By taking the time to analyze the film in this way, you’ll be able to develop a more nuanced understanding of it which will come in handy when you start writing your essay.

III. Write down your thoughts on the movie

After you’ve watched the movie a second time and taken some notes, it’s time to start brainstorming your thoughts on the film. Take note of the things liked about the movie? Also take note of the things you didn’t you like about the movie? Not to forget, ask yourself, what themes resonated with you? How did the cinematography and writing/directing choices affect your experience watching the movie? These will help you form a solid opinion of the film.

IV. Discuss the themes of the movie and how they resonate with you

We asked top assignment writers at Essay Geeks , what is their secret of writing top essays about their favorite movies. The answer was simple; you discuss the themes that the movie explores. What topics does the film tackle? How does it approach these topics? How do the themes resonate with you on a personal level? These are the sorts of questions that you’ll need to answer in your essay.

V. Analyze the cinematography and writing/directing choices made by the filmmakers

You want to be sure to not only discuss the themes of the film but also analyze how the filmmakers approached these themes. What decisions did filmmakers settle on in terms of cinematography and writing/directing? How did these choices affect your experience of watching the movie? Did they enhance or detract from your enjoyment of the film? These questions will help you to get at the bottom of what exactly the filmmakers were aiming at achieving with their choices.

VI. Offer your own interpretation of the film’s message or story

What did you make of the ending? Do you think the film was successful in conveying its intended message? What sort of emotions did the film evoke in you? Did it make you think about the world in a different way? By offering your own interpretation, you’ll be able to add your own unique voice to the essay.

2 Mistakes to Avoid When Writing About Your Favorite Movie

Writing about your favorite movie can be a fun and rewarding experience. However, there are a few mistakes that you’ll want to avoid if you want the essay to be as good as it can be. Here are two of them;

Regurgitating the plot

When you’re writing about your favorite movie, it’s important to resist the urge to simply regurgitate the plot. While it’s important to give a brief overview of what the film is about, your essay should go beyond just summarizing the story. Instead, focus on discussing the themes of the film and how these themes resonate with you.

Don’t forget to proofread

Once you’re done writing your essay, do not forget to take the time to go through it again. This can help you catch sloppy grammatical or spelling errors that could detract from your essay. In addition, proofreading will also allow you to catch any choppy sentences or awkward phrasing. By taking the time to proofread your essay, you’ll be able to make sure that it is as polished and well-written as possible.

Closing Thoughts

Writing an essay about your favorite movie really shouldn’t be too difficult. Just be sure to take your time to understand the film, brainstorm your thoughts, and proofread your essay before submitting it.

It is an emotional movie which always keeps me glued to the screen. It tells about the story of a boy who suffers from dyslexia due to which he is unable to identify speech sounds and how they relate to letters. Because of this disorder, he cannot excel in any activity.

He finds all the subjects difficult to study. Even with this disorder, he is very good at painting. However, he gets expelled from school because of his poor performance.

All the teachers tell his parents that their boy is not normal and he should be sent to school which is especially made for special children like him. Later, his parents send him to boarding school. There he sinks into a state of nervousness and fear because of new environment. Fortunately, he finds an art teacher there who is very supportive and caring.

If he is not good at studies then there must be some other thing which he is good at. He might be interested in painting, acting, singing or sports. Therefore, parents should not discourage their children but help them in what they like.

I like how the director of this movie has brought out a clear message that parents should not ignore the interests of kids and they should not snatch their childhood from them by giving them burden of getting good grades or efficient performance in every field.

Essay on My Favorite Movie Harry Potter

My love for movies started when I was a kid, and ever since then, movies have been my favorite pastime. From action-packed thrillers to romantic comedies, there’s a movie genre for every mood. But if I have to pick just one movie as my all-time favorite, hands down it would be the Harry Potter series.

For those who are not familiar with the name, Harry Potter is a fictional character created by British author J.K. Rowling. The series consists of seven books and eight movies, which follows the journey of a young wizard named Harry Potter, who discovers his true identity as “The Chosen One” and battles against the dark wizard, Lord Voldemort.

I was first introduced to Harry Potter when I was in elementary school, and I still remember the excitement of reading the books for the first time. The magical world of Hogwarts, spells, potions, and flying broomsticks had me completely captivated. As a kid, I would often daydream about receiving my acceptance letter to Hogwarts and attending classes with Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

When the movies were released, I was ecstatic! It was a dream come true to see my favorite characters and their adventures brought to life on the big screen. The cast, especially Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, and Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, did an incredible job of portraying their characters and staying true to the books.

One of the things I love most about the Harry Potter series is the way it tackles important themes such as love, friendship, courage, and good vs. evil. The characters face challenges and overcome them by staying true to their values and relying on each other for support. This message of unity and strength in the face of adversity resonated with me, and I believe it’s one of the reasons why the series has such a huge fan base.

Moreover, the world-building in the Harry Potter series is impeccable. J.K. Rowling’s attention to detail and ability to create a vivid and complex magical world is truly impressive. From Diagon Alley to Hogsmeade, each location has its own unique charm and adds depth to the story. The spells and magical creatures introduced in the series are also fascinating, and I love how each one has its own history and significance.

Apart from the story and characters, the music in the Harry Potter movies is another aspect that makes them stand out for me. The iconic theme song composed by John Williams never fails to give me chills, and it perfectly captures the essence of the series. The rest of the soundtrack is also beautifully crafted and adds to the overall magical atmosphere of the movies.

As I grew older, my love for the Harry Potter series only intensified. I started noticing and appreciating the deeper themes and symbolism in the story that went beyond just a tale of magic and adventure. The series also taught me valuable life lessons about courage, friendship, and standing up for what is right.

Even today, I find myself re-reading the books and re-watching the movies whenever I need a break from reality. The Harry Potter series has become a timeless classic, and I believe it will continue to capture the hearts of audiences for generations to come.

In conclusion, the Harry Potter series holds a special place in my heart as my all-time favorite movie. It’s not just about magic and adventure, but it’s a story about love, friendship, and overcoming challenges. The series has sparked my imagination and taught me valuable life lessons that I will carry with me forever. And for that, I will always be grateful to J.K. Rowling for creating such a magical world and to the cast and crew for bringing it to life on the big screen.

My Favorite Movie PK

Are you a big movie fan? Do you ever find yourself eagerly waiting for new releases, rewatching old classics, and discussing plot twists with your friends? If so, then you probably understand the feeling of having a favorite movie. For me, that movie is PK.

Released in 2014, PK is an Indian satirical comedy-drama directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The film stars Aamir Khan as the lead character, an alien who lands on earth and becomes stranded when his remote control to return home is stolen. He then embarks on a journey to retrieve it and encounters various aspects of human society, including religion, superstition, and love.

The first time I watched PK, I was blown away by its unique concept and thought-provoking message. The film uses comedy to address serious issues, making it both entertaining and meaningful. It challenges societal norms and beliefs, encouraging viewers to think critically about their own values.

One of the things I love most about PK is its ability to make me laugh while also making me reflect on larger societal issues. The character of PK himself is endearing and hilarious, with his childlike innocence and curiosity about human behaviors. Aamir Khan’s performance as PK is outstanding, bringing the character to life in a way that captures the audience’s hearts.

The film also has a stellar supporting cast, including Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput, and Boman Irani. Each actor delivers a memorable performance, adding depth and complexity to the film’s themes. The chemistry between the characters is palpable, making their relationships feel authentic and relatable.

One of the most impactful aspects of PK is its commentary on religion. The film presents a thought-provoking argument against blind faith and superstition, showcasing how religious leaders can exploit people’s beliefs for personal gain.

It also highlights the importance of questioning and understanding one’s own beliefs rather than blindly following societal norms. This message resonated with me deeply and has stayed with me long after watching the film.

In addition to its thought-provoking themes, PK also boasts stunning cinematography and a captivating soundtrack. The music adds emotion and depth to key scenes, enhancing the overall viewing experience. The film’s settings, from the bustling streets of Mumbai to the tranquil beauty of Rajasthan, further immerse viewers into PK’s world.

But what truly makes PK my favorite movie is its ability to make me feel a range of emotions. I laughed at PK’s antics, cried during emotional moments, and felt anger towards societal injustices portrayed in the film. It takes skillful storytelling to evoke such strong emotions from the audience, and PK does it flawlessly.

PK has received both critical and commercial success, becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. It also won several awards, including Best Film at the 60th Filmfare Awards. However, what matters most to me is its impact on society and its ability to spark important conversations.

The film’s message is timeless and relevant, making it a must-watch for people of all ages and backgrounds.

In conclusion PK is more than just a movie to me. It’s a thought-provoking masterpiece that challenges societal norms and encourages viewers to question their own beliefs. Its unique blend of comedy, drama, and social commentary makes it my favorite movie, one that I will continue to rewatch and recommend to others. If you haven’t seen PK yet, do yourself a favor and add it to your must-watch list. Who knows, it may become your favorite movie too. So, what are you waiting for? Grab some popcorn and hit play on PK – an unforgettable cinematic experience awaits!

Essay on My Favorite Movie Fast and Furious:

The Fast and Furious franchise has been a staple in the action movie genre for over two decades. With its adrenaline-fueled car chases, heart-stopping stunts, and diverse cast of characters, it’s no wonder that this series has become a favorite among fans worldwide.

My love for this franchise began when I first watched The Fast and the Furious back in 2001. From the very first race scene, I was hooked. The sound of revving engines and the sight of sleek cars racing through the streets had me on the edge of my seat. But what truly drew me in was the chemistry between characters Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner.

Their bromance and loyalty to each other despite their differences resonated with me. It’s not just about fast cars and action-packed scenes, but also about the bond of family and friendship that has kept this franchise going strong.

One of the most appealing aspects of the Fast and Furious series is its diverse cast. From street racers to former criminals, each character brings their own unique skills and personalities to the table. And as the franchise grew, so did the representation of different cultures and backgrounds.

The shift from street racing to heists in Fast Five not only upped the ante with thrilling action sequences but also introduced us to fan-favorite characters like Han, Tej, and Roman. Even more diversity was brought to the franchise with strong female characters like Letty, Mia, and most recently Hattie Shaw. Seeing people from all walks of life come together and form a strong bond is what makes this series stand out for me.

But it’s not just the characters that make this franchise special; it’s also the crazy stunts and over-the-top action sequences. From driving cars off cliffs to jumping between skyscrapers, each movie manages to push the limits of what we thought was possible. And the fact that most of these stunts are done practically is a testament to the dedication and hard work put in by the cast and crew.

It’s also worth mentioning how well this franchise has evolved over time. From humble beginnings as a street racing movie, it has now become a global phenomenon with spin-offs, video games, and even a live show. The Fast and Furious franchise has proven that it can adapt and continue to entertain audiences with each new installment.

While I have enjoyed all the movies in this franchise, there are a few that stand out for me. Fast Five, in particular, holds a special place in my heart. It was the first movie that fully embraced the heist aspect of the series while still maintaining its signature car chases and fight scenes. The addition of Dwayne Johnson’s character, Luke Hobbs, also added an extra layer of excitement to the movie.

Another favorite of mine is Furious 7. Not only did it have some of the most thrilling action sequences in the franchise, but it also served as a touching tribute to Paul Walker, who tragically passed away during filming. The emotional impact of his absence was felt throughout the movie, and it truly showed how much this cast had become a family both on and off-screen.

In conclusion, the Fast and Furious franchise holds a special place in my heart as my favorite movie series. Its diverse cast, heart-pumping action sequences, and themes of family and friendship make each movie a joy to watch. While the franchise may have started as a simple movie about street racing, it has now become a global phenomenon that continues to entertain audiences worldwide.

And with more movies and spin-offs in the works, I can’t wait to see what other exciting adventures this franchise has in store for us. So, if you haven’t watched any of the Fast and Furious movies yet, I highly recommend you give them a chance and join in on the ride. So buckle up and get ready for some high-speed action with the Fast and Furious franchise!

Essay on My Favorite Movie Twilight:

My favorite movie of all time is Twilight. I know, I know, it may sound cliché but hear me out. The reason why it’s my favorite movie goes beyond the romantic vampire and werewolf love triangle that captured the hearts of millions around the world.

Twilight is not just a typical romance film. It’s a story about self-discovery, acceptance, and the power of love to transcend all boundaries.

The movie is based on the novel by Stephenie Meyer and follows the story of Bella Swan, a teenage girl who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father. There she meets Edward Cullen, a mysterious and handsome vampire who she falls in love with. However, their love is not without challenges as they must navigate the dangerous world of vampires and werewolves while also facing their own personal demons.

One of the reasons why I love this movie is because of its strong female lead. Bella is not your typical damsel in distress waiting to be saved by her prince charming. She is independent, brave, and unafraid to stand up for what she believes in. Her character development throughout the series is inspiring and relatable, making her a role model for young girls everywhere.

Another aspect of the movie that I enjoy is its beautiful cinematography. The stunning scenery of the Pacific Northwest adds to the mystical and enchanting atmosphere of the story. It’s no wonder that fans from all over the world travel to Forks to visit some of the filming locations.

But what makes this movie truly special to me is its theme of love conquering all. Despite their differences, Bella and Edward’s love for each other remains strong and unwavering. It shows that true love knows no boundaries, whether it be race, social status, or even species.

Twilight may have its fair share of critics but for me, it will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s not just a movie, it’s a reminder that love is the most powerful force in the world and can overcome any obstacle.

In conclusion, Twilight is more than just a teenage romance movie. It’s a beautiful story about love, growth, and acceptance. Its captivating characters, breathtaking scenery, and timeless message make it my all-time favorite movie. It’s a film that I can watch over and over again, always finding something new to love about it. And for that, it will forever hold a special place in my heart.

So the next time someone asks me why Twilight is my favorite movie, I’ll simply smile and say “because it’s not just a movie, it’s a love story that transcends all boundaries.” So, if you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend giving it a chance and experiencing the magic of Twilight for yourself. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Essay on My Favorite Movie Dangal:

As a movie buff, I have watched hundreds of movies spanning different genres. But there is one movie that stands out amongst them all and holds a special place in my heart – Dangal.

Dangal is an Indian sports biographical drama based on the real-life story of former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the movie stars Aamir Khan as Mahavir Singh Phogat and Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra as his daughters. The film was released in 2016 and has since become one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.

What makes Dangal my favorite movie is not just its box office success, but the powerful message it delivers. The film challenges societal norms and stereotypes by showcasing the struggle of a father who defies all odds to train his daughters in a male-dominated sport like wrestling. It breaks gender barriers and inspires young girls to pursue their dreams, no matter how unconventional they may seem.

Apart from its impactful message, Dangal also delivers exceptional performances by its lead actors. Aamir Khan once again proves his versatility as an actor with his portrayal of Mahavir Singh Phogat. He not only physically transforms himself to play the role of a wrestler but also brings out the emotional side of a father who is determined to see his daughters succeed. Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra also shine in their roles as the Phogat sisters, displaying strong-willed and determined characters.

The film’s screenplay and direction are top-notch, keeping the audience engaged from start to finish. The wrestling scenes are choreographed brilliantly, making them look realistic and intense. The soundtrack of the movie is another highlight, with songs like “Dangal” and “Haanikaarak Bapu” becoming instant hits.

In addition to its commercial success, Dangal has also received critical acclaim. The film won several awards, including the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and three Filmfare Awards. It was also India’s official entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

In conclusion, Dangal is a movie that has it all – a powerful message, exceptional performances, and top-notch execution. It not only entertains but also educates and inspires its audience. For me, it will always remain my favorite movie and one that I highly recommend to everyone. So if you haven’t watched it yet, do yourself a favor and add it to your must-watch list. You won’t be disappointed. So, keep watching amazing movies!

Short Essay on My Favorite Movie Bahubali:

Bahubali is an epic Indian movie that swept the nation off its feet with its grandeur, action-packed scenes, and compelling storyline. Released in 2015, this movie was a game-changer for Indian cinema as it broke all box office records and took the world by storm.

Directed by S.S. Rajamouli, Bahubali tells the story of two brothers, Amarendra Bahubali and Bhallaladeva, who fight for the throne of the ancient kingdom of Mahishmati. The movie is set in a fictional world filled with political intrigue, love, war, and betrayal.

One of the reasons I fell in love with this movie is its incredible action sequences. From sword fights to larger-than-life battle scenes, Bahubali has it all. The special effects and CGI used in the movie are top-notch and make the fight scenes even more captivating.

But what truly sets Bahubali apart is its strong characters, especially its female lead Devasena. She is a fierce warrior who can hold her ground against any opponent. Her character challenges traditional gender roles and stands out as a symbol of strength and resilience.

Apart from the action, Bahubali also has a heart-wrenching love story between Amarendra Bahubali and Devasena. Their chemistry is palpable, and their love for each other is portrayed beautifully on screen. This adds an emotional depth to the movie that makes it even more impactful.

Moreover, what I admire about Bahubali is how it showcases the rich culture and traditions of India. The sets, costumes, and music all beautifully capture the essence of Indian mythology and history.

Aside from its entertainment value, Bahubali also has a powerful message about good triumphing over evil. Through the character of Amarendra Bahubali, the movie teaches us that true strength lies in compassion and not violence.

In conclusion, Bahubali will always hold a special place in my heart as it is not just a movie but an experience. It has set the bar high for Indian cinema and has left its mark on audiences worldwide. This movie truly represents the magic of storytelling and proves that with passion and dedication, anything is possible. So, if you haven’t watched Bahubali yet, do yourself a favor and experience this masterpiece for yourself. So, don’t wait any longer and dive into the world of Bahubali – you won’t regret it!

Essay on Favorite Movie

Students are often asked to write an essay on Favorite Movie in their schools and colleges. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 250-word, and 500-word essays on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on Favorite Movie

Introduction.

My favorite movie is “Toy Story”. It is an animated film produced by Pixar Animation Studios.

The story revolves around a group of toys that come to life when humans are not around. Their leader is a cowboy doll named Woody.

Other notable characters include Buzz Lightyear, a space ranger action figure, and Bo Peep, a porcelain shepherdess doll.

Why I Love It

What makes “Toy Story” my favorite is its unique plot, colorful animation, and the valuable lessons it imparts about friendship and loyalty.

250 Words Essay on Favorite Movie

Plot and characters.

“Inception” revolves around a character named Dom Cobb, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Cobb is a thief who infiltrates people’s dreams to steal their secrets. The plot thickens when he’s given a task not to extract, but to implant an idea into someone’s mind, a process known as ‘Inception.’ The ensemble cast, including Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, each bring unique depth to their characters.

Symbolism and Themes

The movie delves into themes of reality, perception, and subconscious mind, challenging traditional narrative structures. The spinning top, a recurring symbol in the film, represents Cobb’s struggle to distinguish reality from dreams, adding a layer of complexity and intrigue.

Impact and Conclusion

“Inception” is not merely a movie, but an intellectual journey. It provokes thoughts about our perception of reality and the power of our subconscious mind. The movie’s ending, which leaves the audience questioning whether Cobb is in a dream or reality, amplifies its thought-provoking nature. This ambiguity and the film’s intricate exploration of complex themes make “Inception” my favorite movie. It serves as a testament to the power of cinema to not only entertain but also to stimulate intellectual and philosophical discourse.

500 Words Essay on Favorite Movie

Introduction: the power of cinema.

Movies have a profound impact on our lives, shaping our perceptions, emotions, and understanding of the world. Among the multitude of films I have encountered, one stands out as my favorite: Christopher Nolan’s “Inception.”

Exploring Complex Themes

What sets “Inception” apart from other movies is its exploration of complex themes. The movie delves into the intricacies of the human mind, dreams, and the nature of reality itself. It presents a world where technology allows individuals to infiltrate dreams and manipulate them. This premise raises intriguing questions about the boundaries between reality and illusion, and the moral implications of tampering with human consciousness.

Masterful Storytelling

Character development.

“Inception” also excels in its character development. Each character is well-rounded, with their motivations, strengths, and weaknesses clearly depicted. The protagonist, Dom Cobb, is particularly compelling. His struggle to distinguish reality from dreams, coupled with his desire to reunite with his children, adds a poignant emotional depth to the movie.

Visual Effects and Cinematography

The movie’s visual effects and cinematography are groundbreaking. The dream sequences are visually stunning, with gravity-defying scenes and landscapes that bend and fold in impossible ways. These surreal visuals not only serve to captivate the audience but also reinforce the film’s exploration of the fluidity of reality within dreams.

Soundtrack and Score

Conclusion: the impact of “inception”.

“Inception” is a testament to the power of cinema to challenge, engage, and move audiences. It pushes the boundaries of conventional storytelling, explores profound themes, and offers a feast for the senses with its stunning visuals and score. It is not merely a film to be watched, but an experience to be savored, analyzed, and remembered. This is why “Inception” holds the coveted position of being my favorite movie.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

Happy studying!

how to write an essay about favorite movie

Favorite Movie: “Home Alone” by John Hughes Essay

  • To find inspiration for your paper and overcome writer’s block
  • As a source of information (ensure proper referencing)
  • As a template for you assignment

Recently, I have watched one of the most famous American movies produced by John Hughes’ Home Alone . It is indeed an excellent family comedy because it evokes all sorts of nostalgia. Mainly, it reminded me of the childhood times when my parents would leave me alone, and I could do anything I wanted. Yet, I had mixed emotions being on my own in the empty apartment – I could sense weird noises coming from the middle of nowhere, or it was simply my imagination getting on my nerves. As far as the audience is concerned, Home Alone is a traditional Christmas comedy; yet, I assume one can watch it any time of year just to make a day better and recall Christmas family evenings.

The main character is a young boy named Kevin who is featured by Macaulay Culkin. The guy is celebrating Christmas with his family, which enlarges since all the relatives gather for this winter holiday. Kevin dislikes being surrounded by numerous kids who constantly tease him and dreams that his family would disappear one day (Hughes). When his dream comes true, and he finds himself in the empty apartment, Kevin starts doing every little thing his parent would forbid: he eats ice cream for breakfast, plays video games, and watches violent films. While he is enjoying his loneliness, Kevin’s parents realize they accidentally left their child at home before flying to Paris for a Christmas trip (Hughes). Yet, Kevin demonstrates himself as a young but increasingly responsible housekeeper and even protects his home from burglars.

To my mind, the actors chosen to perform each character have done a perfect job since they have managed to transmit their feelings, intentions, and emotions to the audience. Despite the fact that the film is primarily associated with Macaulay Culkin, the rest of the actors have contributed significantly to the movie’s atmosphere. Joe Pecsi deserves special attention since his acting was stunning and witty. What makes the film unique is the character’s personal traits – they are all different, at times, contradictory, but they make up a real movie family. In general, the actors performed at a high level, which made the film increasingly believable and indeed brought it to life.

Not solely the plot and acting make the movie atmospheric, but the scriptwriters, camera operators, and composer just did a fantastic job to entertain the audience. I believe the scenario was well-elaborated because, despite numerous events, there was no confusion between the scenes and the heroes. Moreover, the dialogues are just witty and hilarious; it almost felt like a comedy show even in the appalling moments. The filmmakers ingeniously used camera angles to set the tone in the film. For instance, a spectator could observe adult characters from Kevin’s perspective and vice versa. Besides, there is a beautiful background music theme throughout the whole movie. It is almost like a second character who leads the audience through the story.

In conclusion, I would restate my viewpoint that this film can surely lift one’s mood. Everything seems perfectly balanced in the story: characters, acting, music, editing, dialogues, and other details. Actors played a major role in transmitting a true Christmas atmosphere to the audience. I would recommend watching this classic of the genre to those who have not done it yet because it evokes pleasant childhood memories.

MY FAVORITE MOVIE

Film is of great importance to society as it is a portrayal of the current society which we live in. It is a get away from the harsh realities of the world into a new and different world. Fictional films, however, put a creative twist to the common themes we see in real life and also offer a different world to escape to. A movie that has lived up to the essence of fictional films and transports you to an alternate reality is Inception. I have seen the movie seven times since its release in 2010, having the last instance about a month ago. It is my favorite fictional film.

Inception is a fictional thriller film released in 2010 that was written, co-produced and directed by Christopher Nolan, who has written, produced and directed other critically acclaimed films such as Interstellar and The Prestige. Inception follows Dom Cobb, played by Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who is a professional thief that can steal information from the subconscious of people while asleep. He is given the opportunity to clear his criminal history and reunite him with his children by completing a simple task; implanting someone else’s idea in a target’s subconscious.  [“ Write my essay for me ?” Get help here.]

Cobb cannot accomplish this mission on his own and recruits partners; Arthur (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) as his fellow extractor, Ariadne (played by Ellen Page) a graduate architect whose duty is to build the dreamscape and Eames (played by Tom Hardy). Eames is great at impersonating others and using force to get the job done. This occurs within a dream, and Cobb can go deeper in the dreams. A dream within a dream, Cobb, and his partners go through turmoil to implant the idea while Cobb is battling the memory of his dead wife and the urge to stay in the dream with her. The film takes a drastic turn at the end when he is reunited with his children and spins a top which is an indicator of whether he is still dreaming or not. This scene leaves the audience in suspense.

I chose Inception as my favorite film due to some various reasons. Firstly, the cinematography and visual effects of the movie is excellent. The film even won the Academy Award for best visual effects. The film calls for your attention and looking away does one a great disservice. There is a specific scene in the film whereby the dreamscape was crumbling, and the city appeared upside-down. The execution of that specific scene left me in awe.

Secondly, the plot of the film is also exceptional. The fact that Christopher Nolan explored the theme of dreams and having a universe in a dream which can be manipulated by a person to obtain information is brilliant. It explores the idea that dreams seem very real when we are in them but soon we wake up and go about our regular lives. There is never a dull moment in the film as the plot is not predictable. It changes as soon as you think you know what will happen next. You therefore fully concentrate on watching the movie. There were also some interesting and relatable sub-plots such as the relationship between Cobb and his wife who had committed suicide and the relationship between Cobb and his children. [Need an  essay writing service ? Find help here.]

I also enjoy the film due to the seamless acting is done by the cast. Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard and Michael Caine are all critically acclaimed actors and actresses who portrayed their roles with great prowess and were sure to bring the audience into their world.

how to write an essay about favorite movie

I also uphold the fact that the film urges the audience to dive deep into the film and think critically. It requires one to be alert and willing to pay undivided attention to fully understand the plot. You forget your reality and come into Cobb’s reality.

Lastly, I am obsessed with the creativity of the entire film. Lucid dreaming is an unexplored concept in visual art. The film is original in that it is not an adaptation of a book or a television show, but it is its entity. From the soundtrack to the visual effects to the dialogue; everything about the film is original. In my opinion, Inception is among the greatest works of art that have come out of the latest decade, and its legacy will live on for decades to come.  [Click  Essay Writer  to order your essay]

To put it simply, film analysis implies watching a movie and then considering its characteristics : genre, structure, contextual context, etc. Film analysis is usually considered to be a form of rhetorical analysis . The key to success here is to formulate a clear and logical argument, supporting it with examples.

🚦 Film Analysis Essay Types

Since a film analysis essay resembles literature analysis, it makes sense that there are several ways to do it. Its types are not limited to the ones described here. Moreover, you are free to combine the approaches in your essay as well. Since your writing reflects your own opinion, there is no universal way to do it.

  • Semiotic analysis . If you’re using this approach, you are expected to interpret the film’s symbolism. You should look for any signs that may have a hidden meaning. Often, they reveal some character’s features. To make the task more manageable, you can try to find the objects or concepts that appear on the screen multiple times. What is the context they appear in? It might lead you to the hidden meaning of the symbols.
  • Narrative structure analysis . This type is quite similar to a typical literature guide. It includes looking into the film’s themes, plot, and motives. The analysis aims to identify three main elements: setup, confrontation, and resolution. You should find out whether the film follows this structure and what effect it creates. It will make the narrative structure analysis essay if you write about the theme and characters’ motivations as well.
  • Contextual analysis . Here, you would need to expand your perspective. Instead of focusing on inner elements, the contextual analysis looks at the time and place of the film’s creation. Therefore, you should work on studying the cultural context a lot. It can also be a good idea to mention the main socio-political issues of the time. You can even relate the film’s success to the director or producer and their career.
  • Mise-en-scene analysis . This type of analysis works with the most distinctive feature of the movies, audiovisual elements. However, don’t forget that your task is not only to identify them but also to explain their importance. There are so many interconnected pieces of this puzzle: the light to create the mood, the props to show off characters’ personalities, messages hidden in the song lyrics.

Film analysis types.

To write an effective film analysis essay, it is important to follow specific format requirements that include the following:

  • Standard essay structure. Just as with any essay, your analysis should consist of an introduction with a strong thesis statement, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The main body usually includes a summary and an analysis of the movie’s elements.
  • Present tense for events in the film. Use the present tense when describing everything that happens in the movie. This way, you can make smooth transitions between describing action and dialogue. It will also improve the overall narrative flow.
  • Proper formatting of the film’s title. Don’t enclose the movie’s title in quotation marks; instead, italicize it. In addition, use the title case : that is, capitalize all major words.
  • Proper use of the characters’ names. When you mention a film character for the first time, name the actor portraying them. After that, it is enough to write only the character’s name.
  • In-text citations. Use in-text citations when describing certain scenes or shots from the movie. Format them according to your chosen citation style. If you use direct quotes, include the time-stamp range instead of page numbers. Here’s how it looks in the MLA format: (Smith 0:11:24–0:12:35).

Even though film analysis is similar to the literary one, you might still feel confused with where to begin. No need to worry; there are only a few additional steps you need to consider during the writing process.

✔️ Reread the prompt twice! It’s crucial because your thesis statement and main arguments will be based on it. To help yourself at this stage, try an . It will make your efforts more productive.
✔️ Take your time and watch the film as many times as you need so that you don’t miss anything. You might find it helpful to take notes or even use a screenplay if you can find one.
✔️ You should write down a thesis statement and organize the main ideas. Don’t forget to support your arguments with evidence and make sure they align with the assignment requirements.
✔️ The last step is writing the first draft of your essay. The text doesn’t necessarily have to be perfect since you still need to take some time to edit and to proofread it.In the next sections, there are more detailed descriptions of how to get every step done quickly. And remember that you can always ask your supervisor for help if you have any questions!

Starting Your Film Analysis Essay

There are several things you need to do before you start writing your film analysis paper. First and foremost, you have to watch the movie. Even if you have seen it a hundred times, you need to watch it again to make a good film analysis essay.

Note that you might be given an essay topic or have to think of it by yourself. If you are free to choose a topic for your film analysis essay, reading some critical reviews before you watch the film might be a good idea. By doing this in advance, you will already know what to look for when watching the movie.

In the process of watching, keep the following tips in mind:

  • Consider your impression of the movie
  • Enumerate memorable details
  • Try to interpret the movie message in your way
  • Search for the proof of your ideas (quotes from the film)
  • Make comments on the plot, settings, and characters
  • Draw parallels between the movie you are reviewing and some other movies

Making a Film Analysis Essay Outline

Once you have watched and possibly re-watched your assigned or chosen movie from an analytical point of view, you will need to create a movie analysis essay outline . The task is pretty straightforward: the outline can look just as if you were working on a literary analysis or an article analysis.

  • Introduction : This includes the basics of the movie, including the title, director, and the date of release. You should also present the central theme or ideas in the movie and your thesis statement .
  • Summary : This is where you take the time to present an overview of the primary concepts in the movie, including the five Ws (who, what, when, where, and why)—don’t forget how!—as well as anything you wish to discuss that relates to the point of view, style, and structure.
  • Analysis : This is the body of the essay and includes your critical analysis of the movie, why you did or did not like it, and any supporting material from the film to support your views. It would help if you also discussed whether the director and writer of the movie achieved the goal they set out to achieve.
  • Conclusion: This is where you can state your thesis again and provide a summary of the primary concepts in a new and more convincing manner, making a case for your analysis. You can also include a call-to-action that will invite the reader to watch the movie or avoid it entirely.

Writing & Editing Your Film Analysis Essay

We have already mentioned that there are differences between literary analysis and film analysis. They become especially important when one starts writing their film analysis essay.

First of all, the evidence you include to support the arguments is not the same. Instead of quoting the text, you might need to describe the audiovisual elements.

However, the practice of describing the events is similar in both types. You should always introduce a particular sequence in the present tense. If you want to use a piece of a dialogue between more than two film characters, you can use block quotes. However, since there are different ways to do it, confirm with your supervisor.

For your convenience, you might as well use the format of the script, for which you don’t have to use quotation marks:

ELSA: But she won’t remember I have powers?

KING: It’s for the best.

Finally, to show off your proficiency in the subject, look at the big picture. Instead of just presenting the main elements in your analysis, point out their significance. Describe the effect they make on the overall impression form the film. Moreover, you can dig deeper and suggest the reasons why such elements were used in a particular scene to show your expertise.

Film Analysis Example #1: The Intouchables

Raising acute social problems in modern cinema is a common approach to draw the public’s attention to the specific issues and challenges of people facing crucial obstacles. As a film for review, The Intouchables by Oliver Nakache and Éric Toledano will be analyzed, and one of the themes raised in this movie is the daily struggle of the person with severe disabilities. This movie is a biographical drama with comedy elements. The Intouchables describes the routine life of a French millionaire who is confined to a wheelchair and forced to receive help from his servants. The acquaintance of the disabled person with a young and daring man from Parisian slums changes the lives of both radically. The film shows that for a person with disabilities, recognition as a full member of society is more important than sympathy and compassion, and this message expressed comically raises an essential problem of human loneliness.

Movie Analysis Example #2: Parasite

Parasite is a 2019 South Korean black comedy thriller movie directed by Bong Joon-ho and is the first film with a non-English script to win Best Picture at the Oscars in 2020. With its overwhelming plot and acting, this motion picture retains a long-lasting effect and some kind of shock. The class serves as a backbone and a primary objective of social commentary within the South Korean comedy/thriller (Kench, 2020). Every single element and detail in the movie, including the student’s stone, the contrasting architecture, family names, and characters’ behavior, contribute to the central topic of the universal problem of classism and wealth disparity. The 2020 Oscar-winning movie Parasite (2019) is a phenomenal cinematic portrayal and a critical message to modern society regarding the severe outcomes of the long-established inequalities within capitalism.

Whether a movie is a rotten tomato or a brilliant work of art, if people are watching it, it's worth critiquing. A decent movie review should entertain, persuade and inform, providing an original opinion without giving away too much of the plot. A great movie review can be a work of art in its own right. Read on to learn how to analyze a movie like a professional film critic, come up with an interesting thesis, and write a review as entertaining as your source material.

Sample Movie Reviews

how to write an essay about favorite movie

Writing an Intro for a Movie Review

Step 1 Start with a compelling fact, quote, or opinion on the movie.

  • Comparison to Relevant Event or Movie: "Every day, our leaders, politicians, and pundits call for "revenge"– against terrorist groups, against international rivals, against other political parties. But few of them understand the cold, destructive, and ultimately hollow thrill of revenge as well as the characters of Blue Ruin. "
  • Review in a nutshell: "Despite a compelling lead performance by Tom Hanks and a great soundtrack, Forrest Gump never gets out of the shadow of its weak plot and questionable premise."
  • Context or Background Information: " Boyhood might be the first movie made where knowing how it was produced–slowly, over 12 years, with the same actors–is just as crucial as the movie itself."

Step 2 Give a clear, well-established opinion early on.

  • Using stars, a score out of 10 or 100, or the simple thumbs-up and thumbs-down is a quick way to give your thoughts. You then write about why you chose that rating.
  • Great Movie: ABC is the rare movie that succeeds on almost every level, where each character, scene, costume, and joke firing on all cylinders to make a film worth repeated viewings."
  • Bad Movie: "It doesn't matter how much you enjoy kung-fu and karate films: with 47 Ronin, you're better off saving your money, your popcorn, and time."
  • Okay Movie: "I loved the wildly uneven Interstellar far more than I should have, but that doesn't mean it is perfect. Ultimately, the utter awe and spectacle of space swept me through the admittedly heavy-handed plotting and dialogue."

Step 3 Support your opinions with evidence from specific scenes.

  • Great: "Michael B. Jordan and Octavia Spencer's chemistry would carry Fruitvale Station even if the script wasn't as good. The mid-movie prison scene in particular, where the camera never leaves their faces, shows how much they can convey with nothing but their eyelids, the flashing tension of neck muscles, and a barely cracking voice."
  • Bad: " Jurassic World's biggest flaw, a complete lack of relatable female characters, is only further underscored by a laughably unrealistic shot of our heroine running away from a dinosaur – in heels."
  • Okay: "At the end of the day, Snowpiercer can't decide what kind of movie it wants to be. The attention to detail in fight scenes, where every weapon, lightbulb, and slick patch of ground is accounted for, doesn't translate to an ending that seems powerful but ultimately says little of substance."

Step 4 Create an original...

  • Does the film reflect on a current event or contemporary issue? It could be the director's way of engaging in a bigger conversation. Look for ways to relate the content of the film to the "real" world.
  • Does the film seem to have a message, or does it attempt to elicit a specific response or emotion from the audience? You could discuss whether or not it achieves its own goals.
  • Does the film connect with you on a personal level? You could write a review stemming from your own feelings and weave in some personal stories to make it interesting for your readers.

Composing Your Review

Step 1 Follow your thesis paragraph with a short plot summary.

  • When you name characters in your plot summary, list the actors' names directly afterward in parenthesis.
  • Find a place to mention the director's name and the full movie title.
  • If you feel you must discuss information that might "spoil" things for readers, warn them first.

Step 2 Start to talk about the film’s technical and artistic choices.

  • Cinematography: " Her is a world drenched in color, using bright, soft reds and oranges alongside calming whites and grays that both build, and slowly strip away, the feelings of love between the protagonists. Every frame feels like a painting worth sitting in."
  • Tone: "Despite the insane loneliness and high stakes of being stuck alone on Mars, The Martian's witty script keeps humor and excitement alive in every scene. Space may be dangerous and scary, but the joy of scientific discovery is intoxicating."
  • Music and Sound: " No Country For Old Men's bold decision to skip music entirely pays off in spades. The eerie silence of the desert, punctuated by the brief spells of violent, up-close-and-personal sound effects of hunter and hunted, keeps you constantly on the edge of your seat."
  • Acting: "While he's fantastic whenever he's on the move, using his cool stoicism to counteract the rampaging bus, Keanu Reeves can't quite match his costar in the quiet moments of Speed, which falter under his expressionless gaze."

Step 3 Move into your...

  • Keep your writing clear and easy to understand. Don't use too much technical filmmaking jargon, and make your language crisp and accessible.
  • Present both the facts and your opinion. For example, you might state something such as, "The Baroque background music was a jarring contrast to the 20th century setting." This is a lot more informative then simply saying, "The music was a strange choice for the movie."

Step 4 Use plenty of examples to back up your points.

  • Great: "In the end, even the characters of Blue Ruin know how pointless their feud is. But revenge, much like every taut minute of this thriller, is far too addictive to give up until the bitter end.""
  • Bad: "Much like the oft-mentioned "box of chocolates", Forest Gump has a couple of good little morsels. But most of the scenes, too sweet by half, should have been in the trash long before this movie was put out."
  • Okay: "Without the novel, even revolutionary concept, Boyhood may not be a great movie. It might not even be "good.” But the power the film finds in the beauty of passing time and little, inconsequential moments – moments that could only be captured over 12 years of shooting – make Linklater's latest an essential film for anyone interested in the art of film."

Polishing Your Piece

Step 1 Edit your review.

  • Ask yourself whether your review stayed true to your thesis. Did your conclusion tie back in with the initial ideas you proposed?
  • Decide whether your review contains enough details about the movie. You may need to go back and add more description here and there to give readers a better sense of what the movie's about.
  • Decide whether your review is interesting enough as a stand-alone piece of writing. Did you contribute something original to this discussion? What will readers gain from reading your review that they couldn't from simply watching the movie?

Step 2 Proofread your review.

Studying Your Source Material

Step 1 Gather basic facts about the movie.

  • The title of the film, and the year it came out.
  • The director's name.
  • The names of the lead actors.

Step 2 Take notes on the movie as you watch it.

  • Make a note every time something sticks out to you, whether it's good or bad. This could be costuming, makeup, set design, music, etc. Think about how this detail relates to the rest of the movie and what it means in the context of your review.
  • Take note of patterns you begin to notice as the movie unfolds.
  • Use the pause button frequently so you make sure not to miss anything, and rewind as necessary.

Step 3 Analyze the mechanics of the movie.

  • Direction: Consider the director and how he or she choose to portray/explain the events in the story. If the movie was slow, or didn't include things you thought were necessary, you can attribute this to the director. If you've seen other movies directed by the same person, compare them and determine which you like the most.
  • Cinematography: What techniques were used to film the movie? What setting and background elements helped to create a certain tone?
  • Writing: Evaluate the script, including dialogue and characterization. Did you feel like the plot was inventive and unpredictable or boring and weak? Did the characters' words seem credible to you?
  • Editing: Was the movie choppy or did it flow smoothly from scene to scene? Did they incorporate a montage to help build the story? And was this obstructive to the narrative or did it help it? Did they use long cuts to help accentuate an actor's acting ability or many reaction shots to show a group's reaction to an event or dialogue? If visual effects were used were the plates well-chosen and were the composited effects part of a seamless experience? (Whether the effects looked realistic or not is not the jurisdiction of an editor, however, they do choose the footage to be sent off to the compositors, so this could still affect the film.)
  • Costume design: Did the clothing choices fit the style of the movie? Did they contribute to the overall tone, rather than digressing from it?
  • Set design: Consider how the setting of the film influenced its other elements. Did it add or subtract from the experience for you? If the movie was filmed in a real place, was this location well-chosen?
  • Score or soundtrack: Did it work with the scenes? Was it over/under-used? Was it suspenseful? Amusing? Irritating? A soundtrack can make or break a movie, especially if the songs have a particular message or meaning to them.

Step 4 Watch it one more time.

  • If you don't like the movie, don't be abusive and mean. If possible, avoid watching the movies that you would surely hate. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0
  • Understand that just because the movie isn't to your taste, that doesn't mean you should give it a bad review. A good reviewer helps people find movie's they will like. Since you don't have the same taste in movies as everyone else, you need to be able to tell people if they will enjoy the movie, even if you didn't. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0
  • Structure is very important; try categorizing the different parts of the film and commenting on each of those individually. Deciding how good each thing is will help you come to a more accurate conclusion. For example, things like acting, special effects, cinematography, think about how good each of those are. Your chance of acceptance, your chancing factors, extracurriculars, can i mention my favorite book or movie in my college essay.

Hey guys! I have this idea of writing about my favorite book/movie and how it has influenced me. Do you think it's a good topic for a college essay? Will it make me stand out or seem too generic? Any suggestions would be really helpful!

Hey there! Writing about your favorite book or movie can indeed be a good topic for a college essay, as long as you connect it to your personal growth or experiences. Colleges are looking for a glimpse into your personality, and how the book or movie has influenced you can be an effective way to reveal that.

The key is to focus less on the book/movie itself, and more on how it has played a role in shaping your values, passions, or outlook on life. You want to make sure that your essay is personal and unique to you, so choose an angle that shows what you've learned or how it has changed you in some way.

In order to avoid sounding too generic, be specific in your essay and provide examples that highlight your personal story. Just remember to stay true to your voice and convey your genuine passion.

Thus, the following recommendations will help you write your essay and be satisfied in the process of crafting a unique work.

Watch the Movie Several Times

Once you have made up your mind about what movie to write about, make sure you get acquainted with it well. Even if you know it by heart and remember each episode so clearly that you can talk about it when being woken up in the middle of the night, it doesn’t guarantee your essay’s effectiveness. First of all, you are in a different position now and should consider various nuances to depict the idea of your subject in writing. Secondly, you are taking the role of a critic and should pay attention to such issues as how the plot changes while estimating the operator’s work and the director’s attitude to filming. You may probably want to write about the less appealing movies to you as it will be easier to criticize them and do a review. Such an approach will enable you to find as many inaccuracies and inadequacies as possible which wouldn’t happen with the film you enjoy watching. Making notes will also help highlight important points and apply them to your work.

If you need more time to devote to such creative writing as movie essays, you can turn to a writing service to help you manage all the workload of studies you are assigned to do. Reading 99papers.com reviews will provide you with useful information on the service to help you decide whether it’s an appropriate company to contact.

Work on the Film Background

It’s important to do some research and find out real events that the film is based on. Thus, you can make your own investigation to discover interesting facts about what pushed the director to create a movie that doesn’t leave many people indifferent. If you want to talk about a fantasy movie, you can gather other points that serve as a foundation for creators to make up the plot utilized in the movie. Or you can choose a touching romantic story that will offer you great chances for discussions and arguments. So whatever genre or type of film you pick out, make sure you tell about its background or mention real events.

Talk about the Favourite Characters

The next stage of your work will be discussing the main characters. Thus, you can prepare your notes that you have dealt with before and use the information you have written about people involved in the movie. But try not to follow the likeness criteria when writing about the character. Your point that it’s your favorite actor doesn’t fit well into the format of the task. It is essential to describe the characters in terms of their dilemmas, choices, and development, especially their evolution during the plot and the changes they had to go through to become people they appeared in the end. All these nuances should be taken into account when working with each character and describing their motives in their current situations.

Suppose your studies in college take all your time, leaving no energy to manage your movie essay. In this case, you can always use a reliable writing service’s assistance. Learning about bookwormlab will help you decide whether a particular company really suits your needs and requirements.

Share Your Reflections on the Movie

Finally, you can move to the part where you can discuss your attitude and vision on your favourite film. Your goal at this point is to demonstrate what you think about certain events and characters. It would be great if you analysed the acting, scenario, music, and special effects utilized in the picture. You can either show your admiration for the subjects listed above or offer suggestions on how to improve the moments to make the film look more outstanding. Presenting your ideas and personal attitude will make your essay unique and individualised.

Tips for writing an argumentative essay about movie

Everard Digby Avatar

An argumentative essay about a movie is one of the most exciting assignments you can write. Unlike most, it allows you to think about movies while relaxing instead of focusing on writing alone. Not only this, but the type of essay is not technical. Regardless of the pros, an argumentative essay can knock the wind out of your sails. Unlike other articles, you must demonstrate proficiency in contextual context, genre, character analysis, etc. Follow these recommendations to write an argumentative essay about a film.

Can I hire someone to write my argumentative essay?

Hiring a professional to write your film argumentative essay is not illegal. However, some institutions frown on it because of plagiarism, badly-written papers, and the fact that it doesn’t help college students learn. But time is not a luxury most of you have, as you often need to juggle classes, assignments, projects, work, and extracurricular activities. When you hire an online writing service like Edusson to write your argumentative essay or to find examples, you can spend your time on other vital tasks. Reliable paper helpers use experts with a minimum of a Master’s degree or Ph.D. to complete A-grade assignments. Students also don’t need to worry about plagiarism, confidentiality, examples, and quality. So, yes. You can hire someone to write your essay.

Tips for writing an argumentative essay about a movie

An argumentative movie essay uses evidence and facts to state or support a position and convince the audience to do the same. There are several things to do before starting your film analysis essay. The popular ones involve:

Read and understand the instructions

No two argumentative essay assignments are the same, even if they are from the same professor. Before writing a film analysis essay , read the instructions for specifics and dynamics. For example, can you choose a film name to write about, or is one provided in brief? You will also find information on writing rules like font size, length, etc.

Watch the movie

The first thing to do when you receive a movie name is to watch it. Undergraduates are some of the brightest people on earth. As a result, it is common to think of ways to beat the system. Some students read film reviews online and then write about them. Unfortunately, a 10-minute recap of Titanic or a similar movie review cannot capture the entire content, action, and setting of a 2-hour-long movie. To avoid this pitfall, watch movies for a comprehensive visual representation of the character, music, twists, supporting acts, story, camera angles, and more.

Must have app if you love the movies

If you’re like me and enjoy a 92oz soda as part of the movie experience, you’ll be thankful for this app telling you the best times to go for a quick break. Whether that’s to refill your soda or recycle it.

Possibly an even better feature is the info on if the movie has after credits scenes. There’s nothing worse than sitting there reading about who the key grip was, then finding out that’s all you did. I blame Marvel for the stupid trend.

Seriously, I see a dozen movies a month and use this app every single time. Worth every Penny of the infinity coin thing I bought.

Create an outline

One of the best ways to reduce your writing time and do it more effectively is to create content. Like maps, use an essay outline to create a picture of your destination to avoid spending much effort on contemplation. Below is a famous sample you can adopt:

  • Introduction.
  • Conclusion.

Start with a great introduction

Film analysis essays are usually fun. The introduction must contain basic details about the movies to provide background information. They include the movie title, release date, budget, cast, etc. You must also point out the central theme and the ideas behind it. One good thing about writing this type of introduction is that you can express your point of view.

As with all essays, start with an impressive hook. A hook can be a statement of fact, statistics, quote, question, or personal anecdote that attempt to draw the reader’s attention and interest. After reading your opening paragraph, they will continue reading until the end.

Write the summary

This section is where you tell the who, what, when, where, why, and how. Here, you will give an overview of the primary concepts in the movie and anything relating to style, structure, and point of view.

Do your analysis

The analysis is the most vital part of your essay. Unlike other writing assignments, a film is a complex artwork of interconnected parts. As a result, you must take them apart and think about them individually. They include:

Visual elements

A good movie combines a well-written screenplay, actors, directors, musicals, and visuals. Thanks to technology, actors can achieve more with less effort. Pay attention to the costume, makeup, motion picture, and special effects like CGI and review their impacts on the film. Consider them with your thesis statement to form an opinion.

Musical elements

Music sets the mood and invokes emotions. But how well did watching the movie achieve that? Analyze whether the music impacts what is happening on screen to know whether it supports the action or distracts you.

The cast and crews bring the scenario to life. As a result, you must pay attention to them in your analysis. Is their act convincing? Evaluate if they portrayed their characters and whether their acting corresponds to the movie’s idea.

The directors are the brain behind the movie. Their essence is to ensure the scripts are captured and well-acted. During your analysis, pay attention to how the expert supervised the execution of the hand, and if possible, compare it to the director’s previous work.

Script and scenario

A good movie rides on the back of a compelling scenario. If you have trouble understanding the scenes, the screenplay is poor. Examine the logical flow of events, character developments, dialogues, and scene completion. Then think about your argument according to the films.

Write the conclusion

Use your conclusion to recap your perception of the film and remind your audience of your overall impression. Remember, the goal is to investigate the movie and collect, generate, and evaluate evidence to establish and argue your position.

Film essays are interesting if you pay attention to details. Follow the guideline above, and you won’t run into any problems. We recommend you take some time to edit and proofread your text before submitting it to reduce errors. Also, don’t hesitate to ask your supervisor for an essay sample or similar assistance if you have any questions.

Don’t miss your favorite movie moments because you have to pee or need a snack. Use the RunPee app ( Android or iPhone ) when you go to the movies. We have Peetimes for all wide release films every week, including Deadpool & Wolverine, Twisters, Fly Me To The Moon, Despicable Me 4,  Inside Out 2 and coming soon Borderlands, Alien: Romulus  and many others. The Writing Place

Resources – how to write a film analysis, introduction to the topic.

While most people watch films for entertainment, those who study film focus on the elements of a film that combine to create the ultimate product. Behind the scenes production editing that occurs before, during, and after filming contribute to the images that people see on screen. A formal analysis of a film asks you to break a film down into its different components and discuss how those pieces work together to create an overall experience. Here is a checklist to help you write a film analysis.

Sections of a Film Analysis with Tips

The introduction to the paper.

Begin by  briefly  summarizing the film. You should not rehash the entire plot, but instead give the most critical information about the film to the reader. Then, introduce the formal elements that you will be discussing. Finally, your thesis should connect the elements you will discuss to their importance to the film as a whole.

The Body Paragraphs

The body paragraphs of a film analysis are similar to those found in other analytical essays.  Each paragraph should discuss a different small component of the film and how the component serves the entire film. In these paragraphs, you should give concrete examples to support your claims. These examples can include scenes or quotes from the film itself, but you can also include different editing techniques or other behind the scenes work. Connect your examples to the overall film and try to answer the question, “Why does this element ultimately matter for the viewing audience?”

The Conclusion

Briefly summarize what you have talked about in the essay. Be careful not to make generalizations about the film that are not supported by the effects of the specific elements you discussed. In this section, you can discuss the overall importance of the film its historical context or address any lingering questions the film leaves.

Tips for Film Analysis

  • Understand the vocabulary of filmmaking. Knowing how to talk about elements such as lighting, special effects, framing, focus, and screenwriting are critical to writing a film analysis.
  • Try to watch the film more than one, if possible. After you decide which element(s) to write about, watch the film again, keeping those ideas in mind.
  • A film analysis is not the same of a film review. Avoid making pedestrian judgments about the film’s entertainment factor. If you wish to criticize the film, do so by referencing formal elements.
  • Unless the assignment asks you, do not try to cover every single element the film uses. Try to narrow your focus as much as you can to one or two salient elements.
  • If you are referring to the actions of a person in the film, refer to the scene using the character’s name. If you are referring the acting itself, use the actor’s real name.

Exercise: Which Sentence Belongs in a Film Analysis?

Sentences and instructions.

When writing a film analysis, many students have to fight the urge to incorporate the components of a film review into their essays. In each of the following exercises, one sentence could be a part of a film analysis, while the other is better suited for a review.

See if you can tell the difference:

1.      (a.) In  Winter’s Bone , Jennifer Lawrence gives the performance of the decade. (b.) For her role in  Winter’s Bone , Jennifer Lawrence had to learn a West Virginia accent in order to portray an authentic character.

2.   (a.) The editors of  Hocus Pocus  use special effects to create magic on screen. (b.) The editors of  Hocus Pocus  used a green screen to give the appearance that the witches were flying over the city.

 3.    (a.) The lack of shadows in  V for Vendetta  gives the viewer the impression that the editors forgot to add in some special effects. (b.) The lack of shadows in  V for Vendetta  gives the viewer the impression that the scenes are occurring in a futuristic world.

Describe your favorite movie essay

Describe your favorite movie essay 3 models

admin February 27, 2018

Describe your favorite movie essay , that shows the quality of the favorite films that young people love and accept their views frequently, what are the reasons for their love and preference for these films, and whether they are present it in cinemas with friends or with your family members or your own.

Describe your favorite movie essay

I am a student in stage ……. I love watching movies so I go to the cinema every week and it is the weekend, and my favorite film which I enjoy when I watch it is Science fiction film, because science fiction films develop a person’s thinking, and I usually like to go to the movies with my friends.

While my sister’s favorite film is romantic, she likes romantic films that talk about emotional problems. My sister loves these films because she knows many of the problems of teenagers and how to deal with these problems and identify the correct ways to solve emotional problems.

My mother’s favorite film is the social film. She likes to watch social films because these films present special problems for the family and the relationship of the husband to his wife, as well as the father’s relationship with the sons and the relationship of the children with each other, and also the problems of adolescents and the role of both the family and the school in solving these problems Related to drug use, and other things that harm the health and psychological health of young people.

My father’s favorite film is the historical film. My father loves historical films because we know the important historical events of previous years and the effects of these events on humanity, especially films dealing with wars such as World War I and World War II.

My favorite movie essay

Undoubtedly, there are many of my favorite famous films that are shown a lot on the cinema screen or on TV. But there is only one movie shown every year on New Year’s Eve that is beloved by all of us and we cannot get bored of it and it is Home alone.

This wonderful film describes a naughty child who has many naughty sisters, due to pressure and lack of attention from the mother, who forgets him alone at home and faces thieves and dangers in a funny, intelligent and planning way.

Since my childhood, this film represents a lot to me, whether from the comedic aspect or the intellectual aspect and the development of intelligence.

I found the story completely intricate and a wonderful performance by all the heroes, a creative portrayal that brings you into the atmosphere and makes you feel all the funny, sad and terrifying feelings.

I can say that this is my favorite movie that always makes me fall in love with it and I never get tired of watching it.

Describe your favourite movie essay

My favorite movie is Brave Heart, starring the great Mel Gibson. It was filmed in the nineties, but it is constantly shown on TV. I love this great work very much, there are many wonderful things in it such as, love, sincerity, trust, treachery, dream, sacrifice, ambition and planning.

The film presents many aspects of the qualities that exist in life, whether for the period contemporaneous with the events of the film, or to this day with different titles, names and jobs.

I liked the ending very much and found it realistic and did not have a wide imagination that underestimated the mind of the viewer.

How to Write a Movie Title in an Essay: Expert Tips for Students

how to write an essay about favorite movie

How to Write a Movie Title in an Essay

Often, in order to get your argument across, you can make a better impression by referencing a movie. Or, perhaps, you were tasked to write a review after analyzing a certain film? Well, if so, then you’ve probably asked yourself how to write a movie title – and this guide will answer the question once and for all. From regular movie quotes to special cases, below you can find the tips necessary for referencing that will make your paper look even more polished.

Are Movie Titles Italicized?

First things first, let's talk about italics. When you're writing an essay and you want to mention a movie title, the general rule is to italicize it. Italics make the title stand out and show that it’s the name of a movie. For example:

  • Interstellar explores the depths of space and human emotion.
  • Parasite is a thrilling commentary on class disparity.

By italicizing them, you clearly indicate that you are talking about a movie. This rule applies to all full-length movie titles since they are the most popular in student works, so don’t forget it.

How to Write Movie Titles in Quotes

Now, what if you’re mentioning a short film or a part of a larger collection?

In that case, you should use quotes instead of italics. This helps differentiate shorter works from full-length movies, especially when you are talking about several bodies of work and need to reference them. For instance:

  • “Paperman” is a delightful short film about a chance meeting and a paper airplane.
  • “Sanjay's Super Team” explores the balance between modern culture and traditional values.

Using quotes for short films, TV episodes, or segments within a larger work keeps things clear and organized – and that’s exactly what you want to see in an academic paper.

Different Cases When Writing Movie Titles

Okay, now that the basic stuff is out of the way – what if the film you want to reference isn’t that simple? If you have a nitpicky professor, surely they would want to see proper formatting, if the film is foreign, re-released, or has several directors? Well, below you can find the most common cases (other than regular films) that might come up when writing your essay.

Capitalization

When writing movie titles, always capitalize the major words. This includes the first and last words of the title, as well as all principal words in between. Articles (like "the," "a," and "an"), prepositions (like "in," "on," "with"), and conjunctions (like "and," "but," "or") are not capitalized unless they are the first or last word in the title.

Example : The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Reference Page Entries

When listing movies on a reference page, you’ll need to follow a specific format. For example, in APA style, you would write:

Example : Nolan, C. (Director). (2014). Interstellar [Film]. Paramount Pictures.

Always check the citation style you’re using (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.) as they have slightly different rules.

In-Text Citations

For in-text citations, you’ll include the director’s name and the year the movie was released. For example:

Example : (Nolan, 2014) or (Wachowski & Wachowski, 1999)

This helps readers find the full citation in your reference list.

Multiple Directors

When a movie has multiple directors, include all their last names in the citation. For example, for The Matrix :

Example : (Wachowski & Wachowski, 1999)

Special Editions and Re-Releases

If you’re referring to a special edition or re-release of a film, make sure to mention the version you’re talking about. For example:

Example : Blade Runner: The Final Cut is often considered the definitive version of the film.

Foreign Language Films

When writing about foreign language films, include the original title and its English translation in parentheses if the translation is not well-known. For example:

Example : Amélie (original title: Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain )

So, as you can see, there is a way to mention a movie no matter how many hidden details there are – you just have to pay attention (and maybe take a peek at this guide once again, just to remember).

Adding Your Personal Touch

Adding your personal touch to your essay can make it more engaging. You can include your thoughts or experiences related to the movie. For instance, if Finding Nemo made you fall in love with the ocean, share that! Personal anecdotes can make your writing stand out and resonate with your readers.

The goal is to reflect, to discuss, to create something new; there is no need to state the obvious. When mentioning a movie in your work, don’t just give the main plot and say “how greatly the characters impacted you.” It can be extremely hard to get inspired, but more often than not professors want to see your own thoughts and reactions – maybe you can be the next person to take a new look at an old film and see something that was never seen before? Just give it some time to brew and you will surely deliver a great essay.

Most Popular Movie Titles Referenced in Student Essays

Sometimes students are given an assignment, but don’t know which film to talk about. Here's a list of some popular movie titles with several plot lines and themes, so you can choose the one you want to talk about. These can serve as inspiration for your essays:

Movie Title

Short Description

A gritty and realistic take on Batman's fight against the Joker in Gotham City.

The life journey of a man with a kind heart and a unique perspective on history.

The story behind the creation of Facebook and the controversies surrounding its founders.

An animated tale of a young lion cub's journey to reclaim his kingdom.

A powerful depiction of the Holocaust and one man's mission to save lives.

Dinosaurs are brought back to life in a modern theme park, leading to unexpected chaos.

Marvel superheroes team up to save the world from a powerful threat.

An animated adventure of a young girl navigating a magical and mysterious world.

A teenager travels through time in a DeLorean, experiencing past and future adventures.

A touching story of a man's struggle to achieve his dreams and provide for his son.

These movies offer rich themes, compelling characters, and memorable stories that can be analyzed from many angles. However, this list isn’t limited, obviously.

Final Thoughts

Writing movie titles in an essay might seem tricky at first, but with these tips, you’ll be a pro in no time. Remember to italicize full-length movies, use quotes for short films, capitalize correctly, and follow the specific citation style your teacher or professor prefers. And don’t be afraid to dig deep and share your personal insight to make your essay unique and engaging.

How do you put movie titles in an essay?

When writing an essay, you should italicize the titles of full-length movies to make them stand out. For example, you would write The Dark Knight . This applies to all major works such as books, movies, and TV shows. Short films and parts of a larger work should be placed in quotes.

How to put a movie title in an essay APA?

In APA style, you should italicize the titles of full-length movies. For example, you would write Interstellar . Additionally, include the director’s name and the year of release in your reference list like this: Nolan, C. (Director). (2014). Interstellar [Film]. Paramount Pictures.

How do I refer to a film in an essay?

To refer to a film in an essay, italicize the title if it is a full-length movie, for instance, Schindler’s List . Mention the director and the release year in your text or citations. For example, you could write, “Spielberg’s Schindler’s List (1993) is a powerful film about the Holocaust.”

Is movie title in quotes?

Introduction

Some are born great; some achieve greatness; some have greatness thrust upon them. As for Dimple Kapadia, my favorite actress, the later two parts of the sentence hold good. The director of movie Bobby, Raj Kapoor, drew magic out of her. The movie was popular beyond expectations and those who saw the movie not once, twice but dozens of times just to enjoy the role of Dimple Kapadia as Bobby are not in dozens, but in thousands. Through this movie, she brought the essential dignity to the female character, and sent a convincing message, as for the rights and responsibilities of women in the Indian Society. Mind you, she was doing this role 4 decades ago and the social conditions prevailing then were entirely different as compared to the current times.

She has been hailed as the sensuous star, apart from her superb acting talents. Her sexuality was not exhibitionism of the naked body parts. It was appreciated and acceptable as it had nobility about it. She was in teens when she did the role of Bobby, but showed extraordinary maturity in ‘her dialogues.’ As a debutant, it was an outstanding effort. She acted without any strain; the scene to scene transformation was effortless. She was the daughter of a Christian fisherman and fell in love with the only son of a rich industrialist. The initiative was from the boy’s side first. Bikini had yet to enter the Hindi Films, and the scene in which she steps out of a swimming pool in the most revealing style, is unforgettable. Some of the dialogues have found a permanent place in Hindi script-writing. ‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge?’(Will you make friendship with me?)-the style in which the dialogue was delivered was both a challenge and unintended rebuke to the boy, Rishi Kapoor, who was taken aback at her boldness.

She married Rajesh Khanna, another famous movie star of the time, but the marriage ended in divorce. Notwithstanding the temporary setback in her personal life, there was no stopping as for successful roles she did in many films. Some of the memorable roles are:

As the mother of two kids, she did her comeback film Sagar. She was remarkable again, the spectators won’t forget the scene in which her towel slips as she emerges from the waves and surf, and for a second one catches the glimpse of her bare breasts. Kamal Hasan was her hero in this movie. She was not the pony-tailed Bobby in this movie but her gorgeous auburn tresses were no less attractive. Then followed Mahesh Bhatt’s sensitive movie Kaash! She excelled in a non-glamorous role in Shanichari. She is a poor low-caste woman in this tale by Kalpana Lajmi. She had everything that made her life miserable in this movie. An alcoholic husband, a useless son, a prostitute for a daughter and a broken house in the Rajasthanai desert! She as ‘Rudali’ showed grit and great strength of character. Dil Chahta Hai, Leela, Pyar  Mein Twist, Zhakmi Aurat, Lekin are some of her other movies that brought her fame.

She is a great actress and a great human being. She established her place in the Bollywood with her sheer acting talents. Luck favors the brave and she had the element of luck with her, to be spotted by the Director like Raj Kapoor to chisel ‘Bobby’ out of the young girl, Dimple Kapadia. The rest is history.
