Several of the alien companions in Mass Effect have Personal Assignments they may request of Shepard as the Commander shows interest in getting to know them personally. Similar to the Loyalty missions in Mass Effect 2 , these personal assignments helps Shepard secure the loyalty of their squad. After recruiting all three on the Citadel, Shepard can converse with Tali'Zorah, Garrus, and Wrex, asking them questions to get to know them better. Over time, they may open up about past experiences and request help from Shepard. If Shepard asks Wrex about his family and gets to know him between the main missions in Mass Effect , he will eventually talk about his family's ceremonial armor, which was stolen by pirates during the Krogan Rebellions .

Shepard can help Wrex find and recover the armor as a side mission in Mass Effect . If they complete this mission, Shepard earns Wrex's trust and Loyalty. This becomes especially important on Virmire, as a loyal Wrex can always be persuaded to stand down and trust Shepard's judgement when it comes to destroying not only Saren's base, but also the potential genophage cure inside. Here's how to find and recover Wrex's family's armor in  Mass Effect .

Find Wrex's Family Armor on Tuntau in Mass Effect

Urdnot Wrex from the Mass Effect trilogy

When Wrex tells Shepard about this assignment on the Normandy in Mass Effect , he mentions he wanted to search for the turian profiteer Tonn Actus, who he suspects has his family's armor. His best lead is the planet Tuntau, found in the Phoenix System of the Argus Rho cluster. When he talks to Shepard about it, Wrex will request to be part of the squad if and when they go to retrieve it. Shepard is not required to bring Wrex, but it is a good idea for unique dialogue and plot purposes.

It is also possible to stumble across Tuntau, the secret structure, and the armor entirely by accident while exploring, even before Wrex tells Shepard about it. In this case, Shepard should still speak to Wrex after obtaining the armor if he was not part of the squad that found it. They will still gain his Loyalty, though they may miss some special dialogue from him.

When the squad reaches Tuntau, they will need to find a hidden structure that serves as Tonn Actus' base. Players can find it directly south of where the Mako drops, built into the side of a moderate-sized crater. They will face two Pirate Snipers and a Pirate defending the base, and they can choose to use the Mako's guns to take them down or hop out and defeat these on foot for more XP.

Wrex gets in Shepard's face on Virmire in Mass Effect

Once inside the base, Shepard and their squad will fight through a small army of Pirates in a sort of warehouse environment. It is usually a good idea to save just before being noticed by enemies, as this fight can be as long as it is difficult. The Pirates move in and out of cover frequently, and many of them have and use the Immunity ability which will prevent Shepard's team from chipping away at their health for a short time. It also allows the Pirates to flank and rush Shepard and their squad, which makes them rather dangerous.

To be successful in combat, players should keep their squad close to cover near the door to make it more difficult for the pirates to get behind their ranks or rush them. They will need to move around the boxes for cover and to reach their targets but should always be mindful of what's behind them. They can also use Overload or Sabotage to take advantage of fuel tanks around the room. There is one near Tonn Actus' starting location, and using Override to detonate it will usually kill the pirate on the spot.

Once the room has been cleared, Shepard can find a door on the far side from the entrance that leads to some stairs. At the top of the stairs in the next room, they should go left to find a room containing tons of loot and a safe to decrypt. Shepard will need to decrypt the safe manually or using omni-gel, so it may be a good idea to bring a squadmate like Tali with a higher score in decryption to improve the chances of unlocking it.

Urdnot Wrex confrontation on the Citadel in Mass Effect 3

If Wrex is in the squad when Shepard unlocks the safe, he has some unique dialogue. If not, Shepard should talk to Wrex following this mission to give him his family's armor. Either way, the mission will register as complete when players unlock the safe.

As long as players complete this mission ahead of the famous Mass Effect mission Virmire: Assault , Shepard will be able to save Wrex by convincing him to stand down. They should be able to use the dialogue options, I wouldn't do this otherwise or We are to calm him down. They may also still be able to use the Charm or Intimidate route as well, if preferred.

Mass Effect 1: How to Start Wrex Family Armor Mission

Image of Ed McGlone

Mass Effect 1 doesn’t have loyalty missions in the same way that Mass Effect 2 offers them. That said, it does have special personal assignments that are similar. Wrex, like Tali and Garrus , has an assignment that Shepard can take on if they choose, however, it’s completely optional and missable. And, in the case of Wrex, it’s very important that you get it done, ASAP. Here’s what you need to know about how to start Wrex’s personal assignment mission, Wrex: Family Armor .

How to Start Wrex: Family Armor

At the end of each major mission in Mass Effect 1, you have the opportunity to talk to each of your squad members and learn more about their backstory and get to know them a little bit. You absolutely should always do this, and in this case, it’s actually required if you want to start Wrex: Family Armor

Once you’ve spoken to Wrex a bit about his backstory, he will eventually send you the assignment, Wrex: Family Armor. Start it right away once you have it, and start it before beginning the mission on Virmire . And, finally, bring Wrex with you . Trust us on these, OK?

The mission itself is very straightforward. Arrive on the planet Tuntau (with Wrex in tow) and make your way to the warehouse structure on the planet. There will be a shootout, so be ready.

Clear out the entire building and then make your way up to the second floor. There is a room there with some crates, loot, and a wall safe. The wall safe will contain Wrex’s armor. Go grab that and you’ll be all set.

If you’d like to know about the repercussions of this mission, keep reading, but some spoilers (for an old game) are ahead .

Wrex’s Armor, Trust, and Virmire

This mission can potentially have some serious long-term ramifications, believe it or not. If you brought Wrex along for this mission and completed it, giving him his family armor back, Wrex will place his full trust in you.

When you get to Virmire, you will eventually get into a serious argument with Wrex where you will need high Charm or Intimidate in order to avoid having to kill Wrex . However, if you completed the Family Armor assignment, you can skip that Charm/Intimidate check and resolve things peacefully regardless of if you had enough Charm/Intimidate.

Saving Wrex is crucial for Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 (assuming you want the most pleasant ending and highest possible War Asset scores for Mass Effect 3), so having this as a backup to screwing up your Charm/Intimidation check on Virmire is great.

That’s all you need to know about how to start Wrex’s personal assignment mission, Wrex: Family Armor in Mass Effect 1 . For more tips, tricks and FAQs answered be sure to check out our  wiki guide  that is filled with helpful guides.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition: How to Recruit Wrex

Image of Victor Vellas

Much like a lot of other teammates, in order to recruit Wrex to your squad, you need to finish a specific mission in Mass Effect Legendary Edition . The only difference with Wrex, compared to other squad mates, is that he is actually missable and if you don’t complete his unique quest in time, you won’t be able to do so for the rest of your playthrough. As one of the most liked characters in the Mass Effect Universe, it would be a shame to not actually have him around, so check out below to see how you can invite him to Normandy with the rest of your crew.

How to unlock Wrex as a squad mate in Mass Effect Legendary Edition

Urdnot Wrex is one of the two missable characters in Mass Effect 1, the other being Garrus Vakarian , and if you don’t complete his mission until a certain point throughout your adventure, you won’t be able to recruit him at all. After you reach the Citadel, amongst other things you will have to do, one is going to be to speak with the Council that awaits your report. You need to speak with Barla Von in order to learn Wrex’s whereabouts, and then head to Chora’s Den to begin the whole sequence in the Citadel: Wrex mission. If you successfully see to the end of this chain-mission, Wrex will eventually be invited to your crew as a squad mate.

I can’t even imagine playing through Mass Effect without Wrex around. He is the cliché gentle giant you would find in many other games, but a proud Krogan nevertheless who would do anything for his allies, putting their needs before everything else. He is also a very strong fighter, with Biotics abilities that are mostly on the defensive side and sturdy weaponry like shotguns. Considering his size, it’s only natural he would prefer such playstyle, and it works quite well for you as Wrex can end up being one of the most valuable assets of your team and keep you alive in many dire situations.

Best Wrex build - Complete guide - Mass Effect 1 (ME1) | LE

This post is about Urdnot Wrex, the Krogan build in Mass Effect 1 and Legendary Edition. The build concentrates on covering important aspects in combat, equipment, and talents.

How to Acquire Wrex?

Early in the game, you will enter Chora’s Den, a club in the Wards. You will then encounter Wrex, trying to reach Fist.

After that, you will need to go to C-Sec headquarters where you will find Wrex Urdnot arguing. Go to him and a scene will start. After the dialogues, the Krogan will join your party.

I recommend building Urdnot Wrex as a Tank character. Let him run first during encounters to lure enemies out of the cover. With the talents that I will suggest Wrex can easily soak up a lot of damage. Giving you and your another companion to take out enemies.

A short version on where to invest talents:

  • Assault Rifles: 5
  • Shotguns: 12
  • Combat Armor: 12
  • Fitness: 12
  • Barrier: 12
  • Krogan Battlemaster: 6

Urnot Wrex build talents mass effect 1

Here is how I recommend prioritizing Wrex talents.

Get Assault Rifles to 5. This will allow you to unlock Shotguns talent. With it, Wrex will be able to deal more damage and get access to Carnage skills.

My next suggestion is to get Combat Armor to 7. This will give you two benefits: allow wearing Heavy armor and unlocks Immunity. Next, put all your points into Immunity . This will greatly boost Krogan’s survivability by reducing the damage that it takes for 6 seconds. The Master level gives 90% damage reduction.

After this maximize Krogan Battlemaster. It gives you HP regeneration and resistances to physics forces like Throw. After this get Barrier. It is an amazing skill giving you a temporary shield that allows you to soak up all damage until a certain threshold is reached.

Of course, we now covered the defensive part of the build. At this time you should be in the middle of the game. This opens up opportunities for more offensive investments. Finish leveling Shotguns.

After this get Warp and maximize it. This is a great offensive ability that works on all enemies. After Warp, my personal suggestion is to choose between further Combat Armor investment or getting Throw . I did not use Throw as much as I had other companions with stronger biotic abilities.

This covers how you should be building Urdnot Wrex talents for maximum utility in Mass Effect 1

What Gear should you use for Urdnot Wrex?

In this section, I will cover recommend gear for Wrex.

As you will invest all 12 points to Shotguns, this will be your main weapon. The best ones are Spectre shotguns HMWSG . Try to get the best tier that is available to you either VII or X.

hmwsg x stats mass effect 1

Regarding the weapon upgrades I recommend: Kinetic Coil, Scram Rail, Sledgehammer Rounds, Inferno Rounds.

As a secondary weapon, you can get Assault Rifle: HMWA. However, due to low investment, you will lose out on DPS compared to a shotgun.

As you will have the ability to wear Heavy Armor, it should be your priority. Of course, you can also wear a medium one. However, as Wrex will be tanking a lot my personal suggestion is Mercenary type armors that have high damage protection:

Mercenary Heavy Armor stats mass effect

Of course, there are better armors, like Colossus armor , which has the highest damage protection . But it is not easily obtainable as others. For the highest biotic protection get Krogan Battlemaster armor. To get this armor to buy a Geth Armor license in Lower Markets of Citadel Wards. There you will find a salarian named Morlan.

Do not forget to fill upgrade slots. My personal recommendation: Energized Plating, Kinetic Exoskeleton, and Shield Interface

Tools – Omni-tool and Biotic amp

Wrex can wear Biotic Amp. This is a great way to boost your biotic abilities, although you do not have many of them. The best one is Savant:

Savant biotic tool mass effect 1

Unfortunately, the other ones are lackluster compared to the stats that they give at the same tier.

Tactics – how to use Wrex?

As I already mentioned, I suggest building this Krogan as a tank. Due to this, you will need to use squad commands. They will allow you to move Wrex to the front lines.

This is useful because enemies will leave their covers to attack him. This will be an excellent opportunity for your and your companion to attack them.

Wrex is an extremely interesting character in Mass Effect 1. Although he just looks like a grunt his backstory will explain the reasons for his actions.

This build guide should help you on your journey and explain the main points to fully utilize Wrex in your party.

ME1 guide: Best mission order for story purposes and what squadmates to bring for the most unique dialogue

I have an improved version of this guide in a post containing a guide for every single game making this guide pointless. Here is the link.

This rest of this guide is basically irrelevant originally wasn’t going to make a guide for ME1 but I’ve seen so many people ask for one on my guides and other people’s guides that I’ve decided to make one.

I made a ME1 guide a couple days ago but the draft got deleted when I posted it and I couldn’t find anyway to recover it without redoing it from scratch. So I’m sorry for not posting this sooner.

ME1 has far less unique dialogue and far less main missions than ME2 and ME3. This guide serves much more like a checklist mixed with some unique dialogue and story order.

Like my other guides, this guide contains no unmarked spoilers besides the names of missions or characters. It can be used on a first playthrough.

This guide is NOT recommended for insanity. Even more so than the other guides due to ME1’s much more inconsistent difficulty.

I will be going over every single assignment in the game with the exception of the collection assignments. UNC Asari Writings is the only one that has an effect on a later game. I will mention if an assignment either is effected by your background or has an impact on ME2 or ME3.

Unlike ME2 and ME3, you can skip almost all side missions with little consequence. If you are not looking to 100% ME1 I would recommend ignoring most of the assignments that don’t have impact on ME2 or ME3.

Most missions/assignments have multiple names. I will either be using whatever name the mission has when first received or in the case of the UNC missions, whatever name they have when the have “UNC” in the name.

Here is a link to my ME2 guide and ME3 guide if you want to check them out.

Eden Prime: N/A - Before interacting with beacon, go to the left of it for a cutscene.

Citadel: Expose Saren/Citadel: Garrus/Citadel: Shadowbroker: N/A - These missions all tie in with each other. In the wards, there is a cutscene when you interact with the middle window if Kaidan and Ashley are in your party. When confronting Fist do not bring Wrex if you wanna be able to spare him. Fist shows up in ME2 if spared. After defeating Fist make sure to pick up his OSI drive in order to complete Reporter’s Request.

Citadel: Reporter’s Request: N/A - This mission has an effect on ME2.

Citadel: Scan the Keepers:** Anyone - This assignment is a pain. This mission has an email in ME2 that you only receive if you make specific choices in Citadel: Jahleed’s Fears. If you are not a completionist I would ignore this assignment. It’s still worth scanning any keepers you run into even if you don’t fully complete the assignment.

Citadel: Jahleed’s Fears: Anyone - This assignment ties in with the previous one.

Citadel: The Fan: Anyone - This assignment requires you to come back 2 other times. Once after completing one main planet and once again after another main planet. This mission has an impact on ME2 and ME3.

Find Liara T’Soni: Anyone - Liara is on Therum in the Knossos system of the Artemis Tau cluster. This mission has unique dialogue if you do it 3rd or 4th. Doing so will mean that you cannot romance Liara. Talk to Anderson and Udina sometime after this mission for some dialogue.

Bring Down the Sky: Anyone - This DLC rewards you with a lot of morality points. Do this mission now if you wanna pass the speech check during the ship inspection.

UNC Major Kyle: Anyone - This mission has unique dialogue if you chose the Ruthless background.

UNC Hostage: Kaidan and Anyone - Kaidan has unique dialogue in this mission. This mission has an impact on ME2.

UNC Missing Survey Team: Anyone

UNC Lost Freighter: Anyone

UNC Espionage Probe: Anyone - This mission has unique dialogue if you chose the War Hero background.

UNC Rogue VI: Anyone - This mission only unlocks after reaching level 20. This mission has an impact on ME2 and ME3. This mission unlocks a specialization of your choice. Do NOT skip this mission.

Citadel: Snap Inspection: Kaidan and Ashley - They both have some dialogue with the Admiral.

Citadel: The Fourth Estate: Anyone - This mission has an impact on ME2 and ME3.

Makes sure to buy the Elkoss Combine license from Expat. Buying one has an impact on ME3.

Citadel: Rita’s Sister: Kaidan and Ashley or Garrus and Anyone - Kaidan and Ashley have dialogue together. Garrus has comments during the mission. This mission has an impact on ME3.

Not a mission but Garrus and Wrex have dialogue with Executor Pallin.

Citadel: Homecoming: Ashley and Anyone - Ashley as unique dialogue with a character in this mission. This mission has an impact on ME2.

Citadel: Family Matter Anyone - This mission has an impact on ME2 and ME3.

Citadel: Presidium Prophet: Anyone

Citadel: Asari Consort/Xeltan’s request: Liara/Ashley/Kaidan and Wrex - Wrex has dialogue with Septimus. Your LI has a single line with the Consort if you have locked them in by this point (which is possible only if you have done enough assignments by this point). Complete Xeltan’s Request before finishing Asari Consort in order to receive a reward. This mission has an impact on ME2, ME3, and the Citadel DLC in ME3.

Citadel: Planting a Bug: Anyone - This mission has an impact on ME2. This mission rewards more morality points if you use the charm/intimidate check on Emily Wong after recovering the bug but before planting the big.

Citadel: Old, Unhappy, Far-Off Things: Anyone - Spacer exclusive mission. This mission has an impact on ME2.

Citadel: Old Friends: Anyone - Eathborn exclusive mission. This mission has an impact on ME2.

Citadel: I Remember Me: Anyone - Colonist exclusive mission. This mission has an Impact on ME2.

The next 3 assignments are acquired on the Citadel. Pick up all 3 before doing them.

UNC Privateers: Anyone

UNC Asari Diplomacy Anyone - This mission has an impact on ME2.

UNC Hostile Takeover: Anyone - This mission has an impact on ME2.

UNC Lost Module: Anyone - The planet this mission takes place in has an orb that you can only interact with if you received the amulet from Xeltan’s request.

After doing all of these missions you should have enough to pass the 12 charm check on Feros if you were going full paragon. You earn about 40 paragon points on Feros before the charm check so if you have 65% of your paragon meter filled up you should be good. The intimidate check is much easier so if you are going renegade or paragade you only need 25% renegade points to get 10 points in intimidate. If you do Noveria before Feros you can easily pass the speech checks however it is recommended to do Feros first because the story works much better if you do it before Noveria.

Feros: Anyone - Everyone has roughly the same amount of lines. Make sure to do the assignments at Zhu’s Hope to earn some paragon points. Gavin Hossle has an assignment with an impact on ME3. Talk to Anderson and Udina sometime after this mission for some unique dialogue.

UNC Exogeni Facility: Anyone

UNC Colony of the Dead Anyone

Wrex: Family Armor: Wrex and Anyone - This is Wrex’s personal mission so bring him. Bring someone else who has decryption if you aren’t a tech class. AFAIK this is the only mission in the game where decryption is required to complete the mission.

Garrus: Find Dr. Saleon: Garrus and Anyone - Garrus is recommended for this mission because it’s his personal mission. This mission has an impact on ME2.

UNC Geth Incursions: Tali and Anyone - This mission ties into Tali’s personal mission so I think it’s fitting to bring her. Make sure to get the the Geth data on Solcrum for Tali’s mission.

Tali and the Geth: N/A - Talk to Tali on the Normandy after picking up the Geth data in UNC Geth Incursions. This mission has an impact on ME2.

UNC Distress Signal: Anyone

UNC Derelict Freighter: Anyone

Citadel: Schells the Gambler: Anyone

Citadel: Signal Tracking: Anyone

Pinnacle Station: Anyone - This DLC is not in Legendary Edition. Around now would be a good time to do it because you should be a high enough level for it not to be too challenging while still being able to use the rewards.

Noveria: Garrus and Wrex - Garrus and Wrex have a lot to say in the first half of Noveria, especially if you are a renegade. Everyone else has some but still far less dialogue and nowhere near as funny as Garrus or Wrex. Replace Liara with Garrus or Wrex if you don’t wanna go back to the Normandy before heading to Peak 15. Ashley has dialogue with Anoleis is you’re an Earthborn and Tali has dialogue with him if you’re a Spacer.

Noveria Smuggling: Anyone

Noveria Espionage: Anyone

Noveria Peak 15: Liara and Wrex - Liara has dialogue with her mom. Wrex has dialogue regarding the Rachni . If you aren’t a tech class you can swap Wrex with someone else if you wanna be able to hack containers. Talk to Anderson and Udina after this mission for some dialogue.

Noveria Quarantine: Anyone - This mission must be done before the Hot labs or Benezia.

Noveria Hot Labs: Anyone

UNC Listening Post Alpha: Anyone

UNC Listening Post Theta: Anyone

UNC Depot Sigma-23: Anyone

Citadel: Doctor Michel: Garrus and Anyone - Garrus has some dialogue with Michel. This mission has an impact on ME2 and ME3. The reason I do this mission so late is because it ties into the next series of missions. Talk to Anderson after this mission for some extra dialogue in the next mission.

UNC Missing Marines: Anyone - Completing this and the next 2 missions has an impact on ME2. The reason I do this mission so late is because leads to some plot holes in the previous chain of missions.

UNC Cerberus: Anyone

UNC Hades Dogs: Anyone

UNC Dead Scientists: Anyone - This mission has unique dialogue if you choose the Sole Survivor background. This mission has unique dialogue if you do it after UNC Hades Dogs.

UNC Besieged Base: Anyone - This mission is unlocked upon reaching 80% Paragon or 90% if you reached 80% Renegade first. It is unlikely that you will be able to do both without exploits. This mission has an impact on ME2.

UNC the Negotiation: Anyone - This mission is unlocked upon reaching 80% Renegade or 90% if you reached 80% Paragon first. It is unlikely that you will be able to do both without exploits. This mission has an impact on ME2.

**Warning: Landing on Virmire is a point of no return. You will not be able to do any Citadel assignments that require you to leave after landing on Virmire. I recommend that you finish up any missions/assignments on the Citadel you want to do before going to Virmire.

Virmire Mako Section: Anyone

Virmire Salarian Camp: N/A

Virmire Saren’s Base: Anyone

Citadel Lockdown Ashley and Wrex - I couldn’t find a name for this mission so I am calling it this. There are 2 assignments in the wards that are only available at this point. After leaving the Citadel you are not able to return so finish your anything you have left.

Citadel: Our Own Worst Enemy: Ashley and Wrex - Ashley has dialogue that gives some insight into her views on racism. Wrex has some funny lines.

Citadel: Negotiators Request: Anyone

Warning: This is the point of no return. Landing on Ilos locks you into the endgame. Finish up anything you want to do now.

Ilos Liara and Anyone - Liara has quite a lot of dialogue. Everyone has quite a few lines but for the most part they are all the same lines. Bring the Mako when going down the long corridor.

Thank you for using/reading my guide! If you have any corrections or if I missed anything please let me know in the comments so I can improve this guide.

Mass Effect 1 Legendary Edition

Companions wrex, how to recruit wrex.

mass effect wrex assignment

Details for how to recruit - and how to retain the services of - Wrex.

You can learn about Wrex by talking to Barla Von,

(1 of 3) You can learn about Wrex by talking to Barla Von,

One of the few optional characters in the game, Wrex can be recruited after meeting with the Council for the first time. In the chat with Anderson and Udina after the aforementioned meeting with the Council you can get referred to Barla Von, which is one way to find out about Wrex. Alternatively, you can just head to Chora’s Den to find the krogan threatening one of Fist’s Bouncers.

Whether you talk to Barla Von or witness Wrex making threats, all you need to do is subsequently head to the C-Sec Academy area to find Wrex doubling down on his threats. Approach him and accept him into your squad.

Recruiting Wrex is one thing, keeping him around until the end of the game is another matter entirely. He’s the only character in the game who is both optional, and whose services can later be lost. On Virmire you’ll have to convince wrex to remain loyal to you, which you can do with 8 ranks of either Charm or Intimidate. Failing that, you can complete the assignment Wrex: Family Armor , which will make talking Wrex down much easier.

More information about this choice can be found by following the link - beware of SPOILERS .

You’ll unlock the Krogan Ally achievement for completing five missions and/or assignment with Garrus in your active party.

Mass Effect Assignments: how to start every side quest & assignment

While you’ll be doing a lot of running and gunning across the Galaxy, Mass Effect is still a traditional RPG in many ways. That naturally means a whole bunch of side quests - or Assignments,  as they’re known officially in the game.

As with the various character classes, abilities and class specializations in Mass Effect 1, the assignments featured are pretty typical RPG tropes - various quests that offer up rewards like XP, items, gear, paragon or renegade alignment points, and of course new and unique storylines. Completing the majority of the game nets you the ‘Completionist’ trophy/achievement - so if you’re going for that, you’ll need to tidy up the majority of the assignments.

One advantage of the branching, multi-game narrative of Mass Effect is that several of these side quests and assignments can also feature choices that have consequences in Mass Effect 2 and 3 - if you do the quest.

On this page, we’ll list every side quest assignment in Mass Effect, plus where to start them and any other key information completionists will need to know - broken up by each of Mass Effect’s core locations:

  • Citadel Assignments, part 1

Normandy Squadmate Assignments

  • Citadel Assignments, part 2
  • Story Planet Assignments on Feros, Noveria & Virmire
  • Citadel Assignments, part 3
  • DLC Assignments
  • Collectible assignments

Uncharted World Assignments

mass_effect_citadel_assignments_side_quests.png

Citadel Assignments Part 1

These assignments are available from your very first visit to the Citadel very early in the game, though some assignments unlock gradually as more of the Citadel becomes available to you.

  • Citadel: Asari Consort: visit the Consort’s Chambers on the Presidium and speak to Nelyna and then Sha’ira.
  • Citadel: Doctor Michel: head to the Lower Wards Med Clinic again any time after taking down Fist in Chora’s Den as part of the main story.
  • This quest evolves into a ‘second part’ called ‘Citadel: Doctor Michel is Safe’
  • Citadel: Homecoming: once Tali has joined your party, speak to Samesh Bhatia near the embassy area commons area, not far from where there’s an Avina terminal.
  • This quest leads to several follow-up quests as the storyline twists and turns, including Citadel: Jahleed's Secret ,   Citadel: Jahleed and Chorban , followed by one of a number of finales such as Citadel: Jahleed Returns Materials , Citadel: Jahleed Arrested , Citadel: Jahleed Set Free .
  • Citadel: Presidium Prophet: after the council reject your claims about Eden Prime and the Citadel: Expose Saren main quest begins, find a C-Sec Officer and Hanar on the Presidium in the wide open area near the Citadel Tower.
  • Citadel: Reporter's Request: as soon as you can access the Upper Wards (once you’re working to expose Saren), find Emily Wong near the stairway to Flux. Alternatively, picking up the OSD in Fist’s office in Chora’s Den also retroactively gives you the quest.
  • This quest evolves into Citadel: Rita's Sister and Chellick and Citadel: Rita's Sister is Safe as you progress it.
  • Citadel: Scan the Keepers: this assignment is dropped into your lap; after meeting the council, a Salarian is right in your path, fiddling with a keeper. A squadmate will even point them out. Chat to the Salarian, Chorban, to start the quest. If you’ve already started the Citadel: Jahleed’s Fears quest before this one, Chorban will move to the Lower Markets, where you can still get the quest from him. We’ve got a guide to the Keeper Locations to get you through this quest.
  • Depending on choices you make, this assignment will change into either Citadel: Schells' Scanner Given Away or Citadel: Schells has his Data .
  • Citadel: Signal Tracking: visit Flux Casino on the Lower Wards and examine a ‘Suspicious Gambling Machine’ in the upstairs corner to start this quest. We’ve got a guide on the signal tracking locations if you need help.
  • Citadel: The Fan: you’ll find Conrad Verner standing in the Markets area of the Upper Wards. There are three stages to this assignment; you’ll need to visit Verner when you first gain access to the wards, then again after becoming a Spectre, and one last time after completing any of the three main story worlds.
  • As it progresses, this quest changes name to Citadel: Xeltan Convinced .
  • Missing Person / UNC: Privateers: get this assignment by speaking to Garoth in the Citadel Tower after your second meeting with the council. Alternatively, it can be received by hacking a computer terminal on Noveria. It will also automatically trigger if you find and scan the MSV Majesty in the Horse Head Nebula.

Once you’re back on the Normandy after your first Citadel Visit, you’ll have the chance to talk to your squadmates during down time aboard the ship. If you keep talking to them, three of your alien squad members will have requests for you.

What squadmates have to say changes each time you complete a main story mission; you may have to complete one or two story missions before they give you their request and the associated assignment .

  • Garrus: Find Dr. Saleon: keep talking to Garrus and he’ll gradually reveal information about this C-Sec case gone wrong, which eventually gives you a location to head to.
  • Tali and the Geth / Tali’s Pilgrimage: Tali will tell you about her pilgrimage, but this assignment only pops when you clear a Geth Base on Solcrum as part of UNC: Geth Incursions. There’s a terminal you can interact with in that planet’s Geth Stronghold, and you can then gift that data to Tali aboard Normandy.
  • Wrex: Family Armor: keep talking to Wrex and talking about his past; he will ask you to retrieve his family armor, which was stolen. Alternatively, you can find the assignment goal on Tuntau in the Phoenix System of Argos Rho; finding the armor first gives you the quest, then you can turn it in by talking to Wrex. We recommend, for various reasons, that you do this quest before heading to Virmire .

Citadel Assignments Part 2

These assignments will be available the next time you visit the Citadel after completing any one of the three ‘core’ story planet missions of Therum, Noveria, or Feros .

Three of the quests that unlock this point are a branch based on your pre-service history character background - each background gets one exclusive side quest. The other three are available to all.

  • Citadel: I Remember Me: only available if your Shepard has the Colonist background. You’ll automatically get a call about this quest after arriving on the Citadel and using the elevator from the docking bay.
  • Citadel: Old Friends: only available if your Shepard has the Earthborn background. Find Finch in Chora’s Den.
  • Citadel: Old, Unhappy, Far-Off Things: only available if your Shepard has the Spacer background. Talk to Zabaleta in the Wards Access corridor area.
  • Citadel: Family Matter: near the Presidium financial district and Barla Von’s office, there's two people audibly arguing. Insert yourself into their conversation.
  • Citadel: Planting a Bug: you must have completed Citadel: Reporter’s Request for Emily Wong. If you have, find Wong in the Citadel Tower to get this continuation.
  • Citadel: Snap Inspection: this will automatically occur as you step off the Normandy when it first arrives back at the Citadel.
  • Citadel: The Fourth Estate: the reporter Khalisah Al-Jilani can be found at the bottom of the elevator from the docking bay; talk to her to take on this verbally-charged assignment.

Story Planet Assignments: Feros, Noveria, & Virmire

Mass Effect’s handful of story-critical planets also have a few assignments of their own - though it’s only a few for each planet, and Therum actually has no side quests at all, being a much more straightforward affair. Here’s the quests you can expect on each planet:

Noveria Assignments:

  • Noveria: Espionage: as you explore the port in Noveria, you’ll be approached by an Asari named Mallene Calis, giving you this side quest. If you agree to help her, the quest continues. If you refuse, it is marked as completed.
  • Noveria: Smuggling: there’s a Hanar Merchant named Opold on Noveria, in the port area. Chat to it and it’ll ask for your help smuggling an item.

Feros Assignments:

  • Feros: Data Recovery: when you’re in the Mako heading from Zhu’s Hope to the ExoGeni facility, you can stop and head into ruins - speak to the scientists hiding within.
  • Feros: Geth in the Tunnels: after speaking to Fai Dan as part of the main story and then dealing with some Geth, speak to him again. You can also get the quest by heading into the tunnels and blowing up the transmitter.
  • Feros: Power Cells: once you’ve met Fai Dan in Zhu’s Hope, talk to May O’Connell, who hangs out near the area entrance.
  • Feros: Varren Meat: once you’ve free reign to look around Zhu’s Hope, talk to Davin Reynolds.
  • Feros: Water Restoration: find and talk to Macha Doyle inside the Zhu’s Hope colony.

Virmire Assignments:

  • Virmire: Assisting Kirrahe's Team & Virmire: Wrex and the Genophage : both unmissable quests that will pop part-way into the Virmire mission - with the Wrex mission only happening if you recruited him. We’ve got a full guide to the choices on Virmire that helps explain the decisions you’re making here.

Citadel Assignments Part 3

While you can go back and forth to the Citadel as much as you like, these assignments will be made available when the story takes you back to the Citadel and for a brief period you can’t leave there.

  • Citadel: Our Own Worst Enemy: once Captain Anderson asks you to meet him in Flux but before you do go to join him, talk to Charles Saracino, who is leading a group of protestors.
  • Citadel: Negotiator's Request: once Captain Anderson asks you to meet him in Flux, you’ll be able to talk to Mr. Keeler near the entrance to Flux to get this assignment.

DLC Assignments: Bring Down the Sky & Pinnacle Station

The DLC for Mass Effect adds two new locations with associated story missions - Asteroid X57 and Pinnacle Station. Note that Pinnacle Station is only available in the original releases of the game, not the Legendary Edition remaster . Bring Down The Sky is available in both.

Bring Down the Sky / Asteroid X57 Assignments:

  • X57: Bring Down the Sky: simply land on the asteroid; this is the main story mission.
  • X57: Avoid the Blasting Caps: will be introduced to you over comms when you turn off the first fusion torch.
  • X57: Missing Engineers: either find one of the engineers out on the Asteroid or speak to Simon Atwell later in the main quest.

Pinnacle Station Assignments:

  • Pinnacle Station: Combat Missions: visit Pinnacle Station. Talk to Admiral Ahern, then Ochren.
  • Pinnacle Station: Convoy: clear Admiral Ahren’s special scenario to get this quest.
  • Pinnacle Station: Vidinos: beat the high score of a challenge to start this quest.

Galactic Collectible Assignments

Each of these five assignments relate to various resources that can be found on the uncharted worlds you can land the Mako on through the galaxy as presented in Mass Effect. Each of these quests automatically begins the first time that you pick up one of these resources on any uncharted world.

Keep in mind that in most of these cases, there are more of these resources to be found than required to finish each quest. Aside from some cash and XP, there is no bonus to finding ‘extra’ resources.

  • UNC: Prothean Data Discs
  • UNC: Turian Insignias
  • UNC: Valuable Minerals
  • UNC: Locate Signs of Battle
  • UNC: Asari Writings

mass_effect_unc_side_quests_assignments.png

These assignments make up the bulk of the side quests in the game - relatively random encounters you can have out in space while exploring the galaxy.

Most of these quests can be acquired in multiple ways - either through stumbling on the quest location while exploring a planet, through hacking computers and terminals, through overheard news reports and banter, or even through distress signals. Many of these quests have multiple names depending on how you first acquire them - so we bundle each quest together with its multiple monikers below.

  • UNC: Asari Diplomacy / Mercenaries: after completing one story planet, talk to Nassana Dantius in the lounge area of the Citadel’s Presidium embassies area. Alternatively, the quest automatically begins if you assault a merc base on Sharjila in the Macedon system.
  • UNC: Colony of the Dead / Investigate Samples: hack a terminal in the ExoGeni building on Feros - or go to Chasca in the Matano system and enter one of the planet’s research stations.
  • UNC: Dead Scientists / Doctor at Risk: find a clue on a terminal on Noveria, or get it automatically when you first enter the Newton system.
  • UNC: Derelict Freighter: any time after finishing the story mission on Feros, find this ship drifting in the Caspian System of the Maroon Sea Cluster, hidden in an asteroid belt.
  • UNC: Distress Call / Unusual Readings: hack the computer in Udina’s office on the Citadel, or go to Metgos in the Argos Rho cluster’s Hydra system.
  • UNC: Espionage Probe / Investigate Shipments: simply take the Normandy to the Voyager Cluster’s Amazon system.
  • UNC: ExoGeni Facility / Investigate Facility: obtain the quest by unearthing a transmission while on Feros, or get the assignment by landing on Nodacrux in the Maroon Sea cluster.
  • UNC: Geth Incursions / Geth Activities: acquired by hacking a Geth terminal on Feros or terminal on Virmire, but it’s more easily obtained by visiting the Armstrong Nebula, where it’ll be given to you on arrival.
  • UNC: Hostage: you’ll get a message from Admiral Hackett the first time you enter the Farinata System of the Hades Gamma cluster.
  • UNC: Hostile Takeover / A Person of Interest: either talk to Helena Blake in the Citadel Presidium Financial District after becoming a Spectre, or decrypt a terminal in C-Sec Academy.
  • UNC: Major Kyle / Strange Transmission: unlocked by hacking various terminals on Feros, the Citadel, or Noveria. Alternatively, navigate to the Century system of the Hawking Eta cluster to get it automatically.
  • UNC: Missing Marines / UNC: Cerberus / UNC: Hades' Dogs: after becoming a Spectre, speak to Admiral Kahoku in the Citadel Tower to get the Missing Marines assignment. Alternatively, take Normandy to Edolus in the Artemis Tau cluster to get the assignment that way. Once Missing Marines is completed, UNC: Cerberus triggers when you next use the galaxy map, and that quest leads directly to UNC: Hades’ Dogs.
  • UNC: Listening Post Alpha / UNC: Listening Post Theta / UNC: Depot Sigma-23: after completing Noveria, go to the Styx Theta cluster. Enter the Erebus system to pick up a distress signal.
  • UNC: Lost Freighter: locate the missing ship in the Gemini Sigma cluster’s Ming System.
  • UNC: Lost Module: simply enter the Hercules system in the Attican Beta cluster to be given the assignment.
  • UNC: Missing Survey Team: commonly overheard in Citadel elevators. Alternatively, just go to the planet Trebin in the Hades Gamma cluster’s Antaeus system.
  • UNC: Privateers / Missing Person: talk to Garoth on the Citadel Tower after becoming a Spectre. Alternatively, find and scan the MSV Majesty in the  Horse Head Nebula. It’s near the planet Xawin.
  • UNC: Rogue VI: once you reach a certain level, Admiral Hackett will call you to give you this assignment the next time you travel to a new system. This assignment is how you unlock Shepard’s specialization class .

Finally, there are two assignments that are exclusive to different moralities. They only trigger if you've amassed a certain amount of Paragon or Renegade points, and are themed around what each morality axis is good at:

  • UNC: Besieged Base:  Admiral Hackett will contact you when you use the Galaxy Map once you qualify, which will require at least 80% of Paragon points.
  • UNC: The Negotiation:  Admiral Hackett will contact you when you use the Galaxy Map once you qualify, which will require at least 80% Renegade points.

Assignments are the side missions of Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 . These have little to no bearing to the overarching narrative, but completing them may further understanding of the series' underlying workings.

There is a large variety of assignments to complete; this page is a list of them. Click on a specific assignment in the list to read its detailed walkthrough. For a list of missions broken up by cluster and system, see the Mass Effect System Guide .

Some assignments are listed more than once; this is intentional and is intended to make them simpler to find by listing them in all relevant contexts as they appear in the Journal .
