Short Essay On Is Technology A Bane Or Boon

The question of whether technology is a bane or a boon is a complex and highly debated issue. While technology has undoubtedly brought numerous benefits to our lives, it has also led to some negative consequences that are worth considering.

On the positive side, technology has made our lives easier and more convenient in many ways. From communication technologies like email and instant messaging, to medical technologies that have improved healthcare, technology has transformed our world for the better. Technology has also created new industries and jobs, providing economic benefits and opportunities for growth and development.

However, technology also has its downsides. One of the major negative effects of technology is its impact on social relationships. With the increasing use of social media and other online communication technologies, people are spending less time interacting with each other in person, leading to a decline in face-to-face communication and a loss of real-life social skills. Additionally, technology can be addictive, leading to a loss of productivity and a negative impact on mental health.

Moreover, technology has also raised concerns about privacy and security. The increasing amount of personal data being stored and shared online has created new risks for identity theft and fraud. Additionally, technology has made it easier for governments and corporations to monitor citizens and consumers, raising questions about the appropriate use of personal data and the impact of technology on civil liberties.

In conclusion, technology is both a bane and a boon. While it has brought numerous benefits to our lives, it has also created new challenges and raised important questions about privacy, security, and the impact of technology on social relationships. It is important to carefully consider the potential benefits and risks of technology, and to strive for a balanced approach that maximizes its benefits while minimizing its negative consequences.

Long Essay On Is Technology A Bane Or Boon

Technology has become a pervasive part of our lives and it is hard to imagine life without it. However, with technology come both advantages and disadvantages. In this essay, we’ll explore the advantages and disadvantages of technology and discuss whether it is ultimately a boon or bane for society!

Introduction: Definition of Technology

In simple terms, technology is the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes. It has always been around, aiding humans in their quest to improve their lives and make things easier. From the invention of the wheel to the latest smart phone, technology has played a vital role in human progress.

However, with the rapid pace of technological advancement in recent years, some people have begun to question whether this is always a good thing. They argue that our dependence on technology is making us lazy and compromising our ability to think for ourselves. They also point to the negative impact of technology on our environment and society as a whole.

Whether you believe that technology is a force for good or bad, there’s no denying that it plays a significant role in our lives. In this essay, we will discuss both the positive and negative aspects of technology and try to arrive at a conclusion.

What are the Advantages of Technology?

Technology has revolutionized our lives in many ways. It has made communication easier and faster, it has made transportation quicker and more efficient, and it has made information more accessible than ever before. But what are the advantages of technology?

Technology has made life easier in many ways. It has allowed us to communicate with each other more easily and quickly, it has made transportation more efficient, and it has made information more readily available. In addition, technology has also had a positive impact on education, healthcare, and the economy.

Some of the specific advantages of technology include:

1. Communication: Technology has greatly improved communication by making it easier and faster to communicate with others. We can now use email, instant messaging, social media, and video conferencing to stay in touch with family and friends all over the world.

2. Transportation: Technology has also made transportation quicker and more efficient. We can now use cars, trains, planes, and boats to get around much faster than we could before. In addition, GPS systems have made it easier to get from one place to another without getting lost.

3. Education: Technology is also having a positive impact on education. Students can now use computers and the internet to research topics for school projects, to take online courses, and to stay connected with their classmates outside of school hours. In addition, many schools are now using tablets or laptops in classrooms as a way to improve students’ learning experiences.

What are the Disadvantages of Technology?

There is no denying that technology has drastically changed the world we live in. From the way we communicate, to the way we work and even the way we socialize, technology has had a profound impact on every aspect of our lives. However, with all of the advantages that technology has brought us, there are also a few disadvantages.

One of the biggest disadvantages of technology is its impact on our health. We now spend more time sitting in front of screens than ever before, and this increased screen time can lead to a number of health problems. from eye strain and headaches, to obesity and even depression. Additionally, the constant use of devices such as phones and computers can cause us to develop poor posture and suffer from back pain or neck pain.

Another downside of technology is its effect on our ability to focus and concentrate. With so many distractions only a click away, it’s become increasingly difficult to stay focused on one task for an extended period of time. This can lead to problems at work or school, as well as in our personal lives. When we’re constantly bombarded with notifications and alerts, it’s hard to give anything our full attention, which can make it difficult to truly connect with others.

Finally, technology can also be expensive. While there are definitely some cheaper options out there, if you want access to the latest and greatest gadgets and devices, be prepared to shell out some serious cash. Additionally, repairing or replacing damaged or outdated technology can take a big chunk out of your bank account.

Is Technology A Bane or Boon?

Though technology has revolutionized our lives in many ways, it can also be a great source of frustration and anxiety. Here are some pros and cons of technology to help you decide if it’s a bane or boon for you.

On the plus side, technology can help us connect with friends and family who live far away, make new friends, and expand our horizons. It can also be a great way to stay informed about current events, the world around us, and to find new information and ideas.

However, technology can also be overwhelming and intrusive. We may feel like we’re always “on” and available, which can lead to burnout. We may also miss out on important face-to-face interactions because we’re too busy staring at our screens.

How to Mitigate the Negative Effects of Technology?

There is no question that technology has had a profound impact on our lives. It has changed the way we communicate, work, and even think. But with all of the positive effects that technology has had on society, there are also some negative ones. Let’s take a look at some of the ways in which technology can be a bad thing:

1. It can be addictive

Just like any other form of entertainment, technology can be addictive. We can get so wrapped up in our devices and the online world that we forget to live in the real one. This addiction can lead to problems with mental health, sleep, and social interactions.

2. It can make us lazy

Because technology makes everything so much easier, it can also make us lazy. We don’t have to go outside to talk to people anymore; we can just text them or chat with them online. We don’t have to walk to the store; we can just order what we need from Amazon. And we don’t even have to leave our houses to entertain ourselves; we can just watch Netflix or play video games. While there’s nothing wrong with taking advantage of these conveniences, they can make us less active overall, which is bad for our physical health.

3. It can cause isolation

In addition to making us lazy, technology can also cause isolation. Because we’re spending more time alone with our devices , we’re less likely to interact with people in the real world. That can lead to feelings of loneliness and depression.

So, what can we do to mitigate these negative effects of technology? Here are some ideas:

1. Limit your screen time

To combat addiction and isolation, limit your amount of time spent on screens each day. Set a timer or use an app that keeps track of how much time you’re spending online so you can stay aware of when it’s time to step away from the device.

2. Get outside and be active

Make sure you make time for physical activity each day. Go for a walk or run, ride your bike, or just spend some time outdoors in nature. Being active is important for both your physical and mental health. It will also help keep you balanced by giving you something else to focus on besides technology.

3. Spend time with friends and family Connecting with others in person is essential for combating loneliness and isolation caused by technology overuse. Make plans to meet up with friends, family members, or colleagues — even if it’s just for an hour a week — so you can have meaningful conversations and spend time with people you care about.

In conclusion, technology can be a boon or bane depending on how it is used and managed. Technology can help individuals keep up with the fast-paced society and have access to information and resources that were not available before. However, if misused and abused, technology can lead to negative outcomes such as addiction, isolation from physical activities, cyberbullying, data theft, etc. Therefore it is important for individuals to use technology responsibly in order to maximize its potential benefits without putting themselves at risk of any harm.

TECHNOLOGY: A BOON OR A CURSE?

  • TECHNOLOGY: A BOON OR A CURSE?

Our Schools

Technology is a major factor in the lives of millions of students. Wherever we go, we see technology improving the lives of students. However, as useful as technology is, it has a dark side that affects students in a dangerous and bad way. So, this leads us to the controversial question:Is technology a boon or a curse?

Technology has made significant positive changes in the society. Schools, with the help of modern technology such as computers, interactive T.Vs and platforms like power school, google classroom and BYJUs, are capable of providing practical learning to budding students. With the help of technology, students understand what they are taught and can apply it in real life easily. Thanks to technology, school has become a place where students love to go.

Even outside the classroom, students can share notes online, research, annotate, collaborate on work, have study groups, share courses and create virtually creative content online with the help of apps like google drive.

Even social media platforms like facebook and twitter are places where students can connect with each other to share ideas, articles and other resources with each other.

However there’s always a catch. Wrong utilization of technology can cause a lot of distress in the society. Constant addiction to video games, Facebook, Instagram, etc leads to inactiveness which can cause many health issues such as brain and heart diseases, high sugar, obesity and in extreme cases , mental problems, depression, death, accidents, destructive behaviour and suicide.

As students, we need to have a strict routine which balances fitness, studies and fun equally. Due to addiction to mobile phones and other browsing devices, there is an uneven pattern emphasizing more on convenience and satisfaction rather than outdoor and studying activities.

Technology is like a double-edged sword and we must utilize it properly. We must restrict gaming and browsing to certain hours of the day to avoid addiction. We must keep a balanced lifestyle with equal hours for studying, playing and browsing.

Common Mistakes When Making A Class Presentation

Not doing your research, not making a proper introduction, lack of preparation for the presentation, confident body language, not being engaging, inconsistent slides.

  • Overcrowding the slides: It is one of the most common presentation mistakes often committed by students. You need to understand that for presentation “less is more” fits perfectly. Instead of too much text, visuals should be used. Instead of paragraphs, pointers should be used. Using different colours also makes the presentation interesting.
  • Reading directly from the slides: Reading directly from the slides only projects you as underconfident and unprepared. Although it might seem a little tempting and an easier option, the best is to make small pointers of important topics on which you want to talk.
  • Complicated data: Data should be presented in a way that the written content becomes more understandable. For this Pie charts or bar graphs in different colours can be used.
  • Not maintaining the hierarchy: Arranging the slides haphazardly
  •  only confuses the students. It will distract them as there will be less clarity regarding the points.

AI Workshop Intel Ai-Thon – AI4YOUTH

technology boon or curse short essay

  • Data Science - Science that deals with manipulation of data. This was explained through ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’, which was played against the computer. The computer analysed our previous moves in order to beat us.
  • Computer Vision - Process of a computer using input from a camera to recognize its surroundings. We learnt this concept by playing ‘Emoji Scavenger Hunt’. In this game, the computer would show us an object (Ex: Phone) and we had to find the object and show it in front of the screen within a time limit so that the computer could check whether or not the object was the same.
  • Natural Language Processing - Process of a computer recognizing human speech, similar to how Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri work. We had to ask questions verbally to the computer in order to guess a previously selected animal. It was a game very similar to ‘20 Questions’. This was an example of NLP as the computer had to recognise our voice and then process the question that we asked in order to answer it.  We created graphs in Python using various sets of data. Data Science programming was really hard but fun and interesting. We also were able to change the colour scheme of a picture, make the AI recognize certain parts of the picture etc. We really enjoyed CV Programming as we were able to manipulate the picture to morph into another picture. We also explored many online chatbots such as Cleverbot, Eliza, Jabberwacky etc. The final day was actually the most fun as we were able to see the projects related to AI done by the students of some other schools in Bangalore. We were able to see the real-life applications of AI. Then we were asked to come up with our own ideas and pitch it to Mr. Chawla. Some of the ideas that were pitched included Farming using AI (Using AI to calculate the amount of water to be used in irrigation, using AI in irrigation and pest prevention, so as to remove human error), Fitness app based on AI and Reminder app that reminds people who are suffering from chronic illnesses to take their medicine. The workshop concluded on a pleasant note with an inspiring speech from a CBSE official and an aim of continuing to build upon our innovations. The readiness workshop provided us with a clear image to carve a pathway for a future filled with innovation.

Technology A Boon Or Bane Essay For Students

Introduction:

Technology has become a vital part of our daily lives in the modern period, penetrating many parts of our existence, including education. As students traverse the educational world, they must critically evaluate whether technology is a blessing or a curse. This essay will investigate both points of view, offering a more nuanced understanding of the impact of technology on kids.

Technology as a Boon:

One cannot ignore the countless benefits that technology provides to schooling. With the introduction of the internet, information accessibility has witnessed an incredible increase. Students now have access to a multitude of information, allowing them to widen their minds beyond the constraints of traditional textbooks. Online resources, educational apps, and e-books have transformed the learning experience, creating a dynamic and interactive academic environment.

In addition, technology has changed the way students interact and communicate. Virtual classrooms, video conferencing, and collaboration platforms enable students to communicate with one another beyond geographical barriers. This interconnection not only improves the learning experience, but it also prepares pupils for the globalised world into which they will inevitably be thrust.

Technology has improved the efficiency of administrative operations within educational institutions. Technology, from online registration systems to automated grading, has reduced administrative burdens on both students and educators, allowing them to focus more on the core aspects of teaching and learning.

Furthermore, technology technologies have made personalised learning experiences possible. Individual student needs are met via adaptive learning platforms, which ensure that each learner advances at their own speed. This personalisation accommodates various learning styles, enabling a more inclusive educational environment.

Technology as a Bane:

While the benefits of technology in education are clear, it is critical to recognise its downsides. The digital divide – the gap between those who have access to technology and those who do not – is one of the key worries. Inequitable access can worsen existing discrepancies in educational achievement, separating rich and impoverished students.

Another challenge in the digital age is the prevalence of diversions. Students’ attention can be diverted away from their academic responsibilities due to the pervasiveness of smartphones and social media. During study hours, the temptation to engage in non-educational activities may impair academic performance and focus.

Furthermore, the quick speed of technology advancement makes it difficult for educational institutions to stay up. Outdated infrastructure, a lack of educator training, and financial constraints can all stymie successful technology incorporation into the curriculum. This implementation gap may result in an inefficient use of available resources.

Conclusion:

Essay on Artificial Intelligence – a boon or bane

We are living in an era of rapid technological advancement, where artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the way we live and work. You may have heard of popular AI models like ChatGPT, MidJourney, and others that have made headlines in the year 2023 for their impressive capabilities, such as text-to-speech, text-to-image, and text-to-video.

Indeed, thousands of people have lost their jobs due to the proliferation of chatbots and other AI-powered systems. This has led to a debate over whether AI is a boon or a bane for society. In this essay, we will explore both sides of this issue and examine the potential benefits and drawbacks of AI.

Students must stay exam-ready by reading these types of essays based on current affairs .

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a rapidly growing field that is revolutionizing the way we live, work, and communicate. AI is a type of technology that is designed to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as understanding natural language, recognizing images, and making decisions. Some people believe that AI is a boon, while others believe it is a bane. In this essay, we will explore both sides of the argument.

On the one hand, AI can be seen as a boon. AI has the potential to revolutionize industries such as healthcare, education, and transportation. In healthcare, AI can help doctors diagnose diseases more accurately and quickly. In education, AI can personalize learning experiences for each student based on their strengths and weaknesses. In transportation, AI can help reduce traffic accidents and congestion by enabling self-driving cars.

AI can also make our lives more convenient. Virtual assistants like Siri and Alexa can help us manage our schedules, answer questions, and control our home devices with just our voice. AI-powered chatbots can help businesses provide better customer service by answering frequently asked questions and resolving issues more quickly.

On the other hand, AI can also be seen as a bane. One of the main concerns about AI is that it could potentially take over jobs that are currently done by humans. For example, self-driving cars could eliminate the need for taxi drivers and truck drivers. AI-powered robots could replace workers in factories and warehouses. This could lead to job losses and economic instability.

Another concern is that AI could be used for malicious purposes. AI could be used to create fake news and spread disinformation. It could also be used to create autonomous weapons that could make decisions without human intervention.

In conclusion, AI is a complex and multifaceted technology that can be both a boon and a bane. While AI has the potential to revolutionize industries, improve our lives, and make our world a better place, we must also be mindful of the potential risks and challenges associated with this technology. As we continue to develop and integrate AI into our lives, it is important that we carefully consider the ethical implications and strive to create a future where AI serves the common good.

If you were an ex-employee of Google, Meta, Alphabet or Microsoft, you would have surely termed Artificial intelligence a bane. On the other hand, for a graphic designer who has started earning a handsome amount of money with the help of Mid journey, artificial intelligence is no less than a boon or blessing for him.

Technology: Boon Or Bane

Twisha Kaul

Technology is one of the greatest inventions of humankind. It is so powerful that it shapes our thinking and our way of life within no time. It is ever-evolving.  Technology is a tool invented and sharpened by humans to make their life easier. Those who know the correct application of technology, be it any sphere of activity, have managed to make lives easier for themselves and, to some extent, also for others.

Technology has proven to be helpful in various fields, whether it be education or infrastructure. Online classes help children learn things while sitting at their homes comfortably during a curfew or some illness. Educational games help to create competitive skills within them, which allows them in the real world.

Online shopping has made it easier for people to buy products that are not available in their nearby shops or are too expensive. Online shopping brings with it, various sources of a job for the unemployed. Technology also helps us connect with our long-lost friends via multiple apps like skype, WhatsApp, etc.

But other than good aspects, technology has some harmful effects on children as well. From the surveys done every year, it is seen that the increase in usage of devices has caused many health problems in children like hypertension, migraine, etc. The use of these also leads to body damage, both physically and mentally. Technology has separated children from their parents. Due to this, children hardly talk to their parents and are busy chatting with their friends.

Writing is an art, but technology has taken away people’s minds from it. Standard English is not used while chatting on the phone. Instead, children are seen using abusive and slang language, which can cause damage to their thinking.

It is seen that technology has its pros as well as cons. It only depends on how people use it in their lives. If used judiciously, it’s a boon or else a bane.

Artificial Intelligence: A Boon Or A Curse?

technology boon or curse short essay

Technology has truly outdone itself. Today, we have so many inventions marking the numbers to millions of projects worldwide. As of the 2021 UNCTAD report, eleven technologies have a market representation of $350- billion. And this number is bound to rise to $3.2 trillion by 2025.

These technologies include:

Artificial Intelligence

Internet of Things

3D printing

Nanotechnology

Gene editing

And notably, Artificial Intelligence is the number one technology that is revolutionary on this list. Data on this is that AI, according to the Fortune Business insights 2020 , was valued at $27.23 billion in 2019. And this figure is to get to $266.92 billion by 2027. This growth is a 33.2 % increment of Artificial Intelligence services' compound annual growth rate.

So is it a blessing or a curse? Let's find out.

But before we get to the advantages and disadvantages of Al, let us find out what it is.

Definition of Artificial Intelligence

As per Wikipedia's definition, Artificial Intelligence is aptitude executed by machines. This intellect lacks any emotional or conscious attachment displayed by humans and animals in general.

technology boon or curse short essay

Why is Artificial Intelligence a boon or a curse?

Artificial Intelligence has been both a blessing and a curse to humanity, and some of those reasons are to be discussed in this section. For each sub-topic we highlight, we shall share both sides of the story and let you be the judge whether it is a boon or a curse.

The replacement of human labour

Under this category, AI has been of great help to assist human beings to get work faster. Repetitive tasks get accomplished just as quickly. With an AI machine, this task is efficiently carried out without human interference. One great example is the use of AI machines that clean the floors of a building. By using their sensors, they get to the spot that needs cleaning and sorts it out.

On the flip side, how many of these machines do you think we need to get all the cleaning done? And can they do the same on all surfaces as a person can? Indeed not! Despite these machines being helpful, there is still a lot they cannot do; thus, humans remain on top of the food chain.

An Artificial Intelligence machine is just as accurate as the algorithm running it. And believe it or not, a human was the brains behind the formulation of that algorithm. This brings us to first the boon:

The boon here is that if the AI is set on an accurate and correct algorithm, then the results are spot on, which is excellent news for manufacturers and other people using these AI machines.

The curse is If the AI machine is inaccurate, even a few inches off, the results are devastating. Think of it this way: imagine an AI machine is working on the calibration and cutting of car parts, let’s say an engine part if the measurements are off, even an inch out, when the assembly of these car parts comes, these parts will not fit. And this results in massive wastage. And this is an overall wastage of resources, including material, energy, and even time.

Advantages and disadvantages of Artificial intelligence

AI is adaptable by all business ventures

All AI inventions can be employed and integrated into all business sectors globally, making Artificial Intelligence services valuable assets. As a matter of fact, as of 2015, there was a 10% increase of businesses integrating some of AI into their business. And by 2019, that percentage rose to 37%.

This growth marks a 270% growth in a mere four years, showing that AI is a super adaptable concept many companies embrace. Artificial Intelligence has even been named the most disruptive technology. And all intelligence officers and IT gurus all over the world agree on this.

So whether it is agriculture, IT, infrastructure, manufacturing, and processing, Artificial Intelligence services can be incorporated seamlessly and work perfectly.

AI increases business productivity

Every business that has adapted Artificial Intelligence services has attested to a significant improvement of productivity.

In 2018, PWC executives gave the analysis that there was a 54% increment of productivity in enterprises that adopted AI.

AI improves customer service

As of 2018 the Salesforce 2019 reported that 59% of customers worldwide were willing to give their data so that AI can better their customers' experience. And that number went to 62% in just a year.

This is, however, still debated among 39% of clients who have concerns about how their data is utilized.

Disadvantages

The risk of Unemployment

One of the many concerns people have is that Artificial Intelligence, especially the advanced kinds, will result in unemployment.

A study orchestrated by the McKinsey Global Institute stated that intelligence agents could replace 30% of the human workforce by 2030. But that is not all; the same study attests that automation itself will result in about 400 to 800 million job loss. And so people have to either switch job categories or remain jobless.

AI is very costly to implement

On expenditure, the International Data Corp reported that the businesses using Artificial Intelligence services in the USA and elsewhere spend about $35.8 billion. And that was as of 2019. That number is estimated to double and get to an estimate of $79.2 billion by 2022.

And these costs are only on the Artificial Narrow Intelligence, which is the most used kind. Apple's renowned voice assistant Siri cost the company a whopping $200 to make it fully functional. And Amazon used $26 million for Alexa in 2013, and this number has since then doubled.

Artificial intelligence has come a long way, but we are not yet there. As seen, we are just beginning, and the advancement of artificial intelligence services is becoming more and more prevalent.

To answer the question of Artificial Intelligence is it a book or a curse depends on your judgment. Especially now that you know what it is, its advantages and disadvantages.

Your time is precious. Stop wasting it searching through job listings. Tell us what you're looking for and we'll assist you to find it.

Technology’s Darker Side

However, technology is not without its perils. Excessive screen time has been linked to myriad health issues, including sleep problems, eye strain, and obesity. Moreover, social media platforms can be breeding grounds for cyberbullying, misinformation, and addiction. Balancing Act

While technology offers immense potential for progress, it also poses significant risks. It is imperative that we strike a delicate balance between embracing its benefits and mitigating its harmful effects. We must educate ourselves about technology’s risks and teach our children to use it responsibly. It is also essential to encourage regular breaks from technology and engage in activities that promote physical and mental well-being.

In conclusion, technology is a complex entity with both positive and negative repercussions. It is a tool that can be harnessed for good or ill, and the onus lies upon us to utilize it wisely. Technology: a double-edged sword.

Technology has become an integral part of our lives. From the moment we wake up to the time we go to bed, we are constantly interacting with technology in one way or another. While technology has undoubtedly brought many benefits to our lives, it also has a dark side. It can be a double-edged sword, with the potential to both help and harm us.

Advantages of Technology

Technology has made our lives easier in many ways. It has given us access to vast amounts of information, made it possible to stay connected with loved ones who live far away, and helped us to automate many tasks that used to be time-consuming. For example, we can now use computers to do our homework, pay our bills, and even order groceries.

Disadvantages of Technology

While technology can be a powerful tool, it can also be addictive and overwhelming. Spending too much time on the internet or playing video games can lead to problems with our physical and mental health. For example, excessive screen time can cause eye strain, headaches, and sleep problems. It can also lead to social isolation and depression.

The Benefits of Technology

Technology offers numerous benefits that have improved our lives. Firstly, it has made communication faster and easier. With the internet, we can instantly connect with people anywhere in the world through social media, email, and video calls. Science and Technology – Boon or Bane

The advent of science is a great blessing to mankind. Science has relieved us of our “age long” ignorance, suffering and darkness. It serves us in all walks of life like a faithful servant. It has proved itself to be quite an obedient servant at home, In the field and in the factory. Science has magic power. It has transformed our daily life. Science has made the luxurious items cheap and has brought them within the reach of everybody. Science produces goods at cheaper rates on large scale.

Every form of entertainment has been brought to our door. A radio or a television set removes boredom from our lives. They have enlightened our lives and made our burdens light. Even a cobbler keeps a radio with him. He listens to the radio programmers while mending the shoes.

Science has shown every care and concern for our health. It has cured us of many chronic and incurable diseases. It has cured epidemics like cholera, plague and small pox. Science has made traveling a pleasure. It has conquered time and distance.

Man of today travels through deserts and forests with safety and speed. The aero planes have completed the work of years in months. Science has lightened the toil of the housewife by placing many devices at her disposal. Cooking, washing and cleaning are done in the twinkling of an eye.

Electricity serves the housewife like a housemaid. It has provided her enough leisure to rest or to give better attention to her children. Science has taken upon itself even the mental jobs. It does all the back breaking and dangerous jobs for him. Science has shared a great contribution. Books are printed in large numbers at cheap rates. The newspapers add a great deal to our knowledge and give us exact information. Electricity has made the daily life of the common man. It is quite difference from what it used to be. It has eased agricultural and industrial activities.

But every silver cloud has a dark lining in it. Science too is no exception to it. Science has caused great havoc. It has made us idle & ease loving. The gun powder and destructive weapons of war can prove fatal to the well being of the world. It has rendered our jobs light but has made our hearts heavy. Lovers of peace denounce Science. It has ushered in an era of disturbance, lawlessness, instability, insecurity and barbarism, It has raised out standard of living on the foundation of uncertainty. So it is rightly said that Science is a good servant but bad master.

Is Technology Boon or Curse for Our New Generation?

Is Technology Boon or Curse: This has been a very trending topic for a very long time as a Technology

Reported by Pankaj Bhatt

Published on 4 May 2024

Is Technology Boon or Curse: This has been a very trending topic for a very long time as a Technology boon or curse. A fast-forward one-liner statement is not a sufficient answer to this. In our everyday presence innovation has established its way, and instruction has been changed. A distant memory is the hours of looking over an Encyclopaedia. With data at the tips of our fingers, learning is currently unfathomable. (In spite of the fact that there is, obviously, the contention that innovation has antagonistically affected students’ learning plans, because of advanced interruptions and the effect on their capacities to focus.)

For our society improving education is an enormous issue. Grades, our apparent presentation against various countries, and various components have pushed training to the forefront of national authoritative issues, straightforwardly beyond healthcare reforms. Innovation can be used to improve educating and learning and help our children to be successful.

If Technologies are making us Slaves and we are getting fully dependent on them then obviously it is cursed. But if it gives us that one extra edge to achieve in our career then it’s a boon. A proper investigation of all the points and seeing the pros and cons are required to understand the effect and impact of technology on our new generation.

Pros of Technology

  • To understand certain concepts clearly sometimes  traditional learning  is not sufficient. To understand various disciplines better digital simulations and models can be helpful for students and also make them acquainted with the wonders of the modern world.
  • Communication is one of the important aspects of a student’s life. Ineffective communication is just not worthy in regard to education. Since innovation has filled up communication holes and has smoothened the flow of knowledge. Regardless of whether in a customary or a virtual study hall, with online joint effort, everybody can simply shape a network where educators dole out activities to their students continuously and children may request explanations, assuming any.
  • Gone are the days when they needed to experience heaps of books to locate a particular reference to improve their tasks and activities. With innovation, research has been a serious compelling device. Since a great deal of time is spared during research, children can join a ton of data and information in their ventures.
  • With the help of digital simulations and models, teachers are able to know the progress of their students. They are also able to prepare lessons for the students in an effective manner and even students have a clear view and understanding of the topic.
  • There is much technological advancement has been done so far and is in progress. Different artificial intelligence, World Wide Web is helping people to work efficiently and accurately. Apart from this, this modern era of Technology is enhancing people to utilise their time properly and get help in the field of development and discoveries. Many new inventions are made complicated things very easy to understand and more advancement can be done.

Cons of Technology

  • One of the great disadvantages of the internet is that students have become so dependent on technology that they are not able to use their own brains. They have become slaves to technology and don’t bother with learning or memorizing anything because they can just “Google it” on smartphones.
  • Technology has created distractions for them. While working on any topic if they find new links or popups on the pages, they easily get distracted and tend to click on those links. Leading to wastage of time and misuse of technology they even spend a lot of time gaming.
  • Sitting too long in Infront of a screen per day shows physical changes to the brain. This is concerning because it is affecting our brain organizing, self-controlling, planning, etc activities. It is also affecting our sleep schedules and quality.
  • Kids are not spending enough time with their family and friends. They like to connect virtually with people, sharing their life info like photos and texting online. Which is cutting them from society and creating social disconnects.

If our new generation is getting too attached to technology that to even search the small answer, they are dependent on the internet, then it will decrease their passion towards searching for new things. Kids are not utilizing it for useful purposes and using it for wasting time decreasing their creativity using so much on social media platforms.

We have made much advancement in different fields with help of Technology but so many sacrifices have also been taken.

However, proper utilisation of Technology for upgrading yourself is a boon. We have affected nature so much in the cost of getting development. That’s why our new generation needs to understand that Technology can be a boon or bane for them. Proper sustainable development can make Technology a boon otherwise severe impact can be seen.

What Students Are Saying About Tech in the Classroom

Does technology help students be more organized, efficient and prepared for the future? Or is it just a distraction?

An illustration of a large open laptop computer with many teeth, biting down on a small schoolhouse.

By The Learning Network

Is there a problem with screens in schools?

We invited students to weigh in on that question in our Picture Prompt Tech in the Classroom , which was based on an Opinion essay arguing that we should “get tech out of the classroom before it’s too late.”

Is there too much tech in your school day? — we asked students. Would you prefer more screen-free time while you are learning, or even during lunch or free periods?

Below, they share the good, the bad and the ugly about technology use in school.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the conversation on our writing prompts this week!

Please note: Student comments have been lightly edited for length.

Some students saw the value of technology in schools, including its ability to prepare students for the future.

I believe that technology in the classroom is a good thing when it is properly moderated. I think completely taking away screens from a student will not help them develop computer skills which they will most likely need in a world like ours, where most of everything is online. Sometimes phones cannot get the job done, and computers will be needed. If schools completely remove devices from the curriculum, then students will be completely clueless when they take classes involving a computer. Too much screen time can be bad for the student, but if it is well moderated, then screen time won’t be an issue.

— Saheed, GMS

I personally do not mind the amount of technology in the classroom. I personally find typing to be a lot easier instead of writing. On top of that, this amount of technology is used in adults’ day to day lives, too. Writing has become less and less relevant for everyone, because most jobs require a computer nowadays. So I think it’s actually better to have the amount of technology we do in the classroom.

— Timothy, Greenbelt Middle

They said, even though there might be down sides, the good outweighs the bad.

Screens in the classroom allows students to complete work in a more organized manner and use online resources to help them learn. It helps teachers to be able to make sure students turn work in before a certain time. However, having screens in the classroom raises students overall screen time which is bad for their eye health and sleep.

— Emily, Greenbelt Middle

I believe that computers should definitely be used at school because it has more pros than cons. They help with everything. The only problem with them is the people using them. The people using them are often misusing them and not charging them.

— Deegan, California

And they argued that tech is so entrenched in the student experience that taking it away would cause a lot of disruption.

There are no problems with screens in school. I believe without screens, school would be much less productive, produce so much waste of paper, and assignments would be lost a lot. Also when I have paper homework, which is almost never, almost every time I get it I forget because everything is on the iPad. This is important because if there is any change in the iPads we use, it’ll affect everyone drastically. Also it would just be really annoying to get used to a whole new thing.

— August, GBW

But another contingent of students said, “There is definitely a problem with screens in school.” They called them a distraction.

There is definitely a problem with screens in school. While regular technology use in school is highly efficient and much more convenient than using textbooks and paper, I still feel like using technology as the main method for learning is detrimental. There are plenty of students in my classes who are hiding behind their iPads to play games or go on their phones rather than utilizing their technology to enhance their learning experience. So in turn, I think we need to minimize (but not completely take away) the prominence of tech in our classrooms. This matters because it’s so important for students to learn how to completely pay attention and focus in on one task so that they are prepared for the moments in life where they don’t get the opportunity to look at their phone if they’re bored or to text their friends. Trust me, this may seem like I’m one hundred percent anti-phones but the truth is I love my phone and am somewhat addicted to it, so I realize that it’s a major distraction for myself in the classroom. Moreover, staring at an iPad screen for 7 hours a day puts significant strain on our eyes, so for the sake of our health and our attention spans, we need to minimize tech use in school.

— Mary, Glenbard West High School

Tech inside classrooms has had many positive effects and many negative effects. Without technology, it would take forever to find sources/information and it would also take ages to do complex things. With technology, people can easily find information and they can easily do many things but the big downside is that they can easily just search up games and get distracted. On one side, it has provided many different changes to students so they can learn in a fun and entertaining way but in another, people are mostly on their phones scrolling through YouTube or Instagram. Many people don’t have control over their body and have a big urge to go on their cellphones.

— Srikanth, Greenbelt Middle School

In my opinion, yes there is a problem with screens in schools. It distracts kids from focusing on their work. Many students are always on their phone during class, and it is disrespectful as well as sad for them. They will not be able to learn the material that is being taught. Personally, I think that screens should be reduced in class, but I do not think that is possible. Whenever a teacher takes away someone’s phone, they get very mad and say that it is their right to have their phone. In these cases it is very confusing on how to act for the teacher!

— Kadambari, gms

Some reported that their peers use technology to cheat.

It might be a problem depending on what people are doing. If it is used for school, like typing an essay, working on homework, or checking your grades it’s okay, but I know people who abuse this privilege. They go onto YouTube and watch things, listen to music when they aren’t supposed to, and play games. Many people cheat to the point where it takes forever to start a test because people don’t close out their tabs. It helps to be able to do these ‘Quick Writes’ as we call them in my ELA class because I can write faster (I know it’s called typing). It’s harder to access things because of the restriction because people mess around so they block so many useful websites and words from our computer. I like to type on the computer, but I feel people abuse this privilege too much.

— Nina, California

When the teachers assign tests on computers, sometimes teachers have to lock students’ screens to make sure they’re not cheating. Sometimes they do it on paper and they try to cheat while hiding their phones in their laps. And then if another student sees them doing that, they will tell and the student who would have the phone out could start a big argument.

— Taylor, Huntington Beach

Several lamented the sheer number of hours teenagers spend in front of screens.

I feel that we have become too comfortable with using screens for nearly every lesson in school, because it has gotten to the point where we are spending upwards of 4 hours on our laptops in school alone. I understand that it would be hard to switch back to using journals and worksheets, but it would be very beneficial for kids if we did.

— Chase, school

I think we should reduce the tech a little just because most students are going straight to screens when they get home, after a full day of screens … Although I know this would be very difficult to do because everything in the world now seems to go online.

— Jaydin, California

And they even worried about their handwriting in a world full of typing.

I think technology in a class is very helpful, but I think that we should incorporate more writing. Since the pandemic, most of the work has been online and it never gave students the opportunity to write as much. When we came back from lockdown, I almost forgot how to write with a pencil. My handwriting was very different. And now we don’t get much time to write with our hands so I think we should have fewer screens.

— Eric, Greenbelt

Some students said that less time spent on screens in school would give them a break from the always-on digital culture they live in.

Although typing is useful and using the internet is very useful, I think we should go back to how it was about 20-40 years ago when all people used the computer for was to type an essay. Drama didn’t get spread in a millisecond, we didn’t have to worry as much about stereotypes. Now all kids want to do is text each other and watch videos. I’m well aware that I have fallen into this trap and I want out, but our lives revolve around technology. You can’t get away from it. I know this is about schools not using technology, which the world without it would be impossible now, but life would be so much simpler again.

— Ivy, Huntington Beach, CA

I will say that my phone is usually always with me during school hours, but I don’t use it all the time. I may check the time or play a short game as a brain break. But I do see some people absolutely glued to their phones during class time, and it’s honestly embarrassing. You really can’t go without your phone for an hour?? It’s almost like an addiction at this point. I understand using your phone to quickly distract yourself; I do it too. And I also think it’s okay to have your phone/electronic during lunch time or free periods. But using it to the point that you can’t properly pay attention in class is just embarrassing. So, in summary, I do think that schools are having a problem with screens.

— Allison, Greenbelt Middle School

And they named classes in which they think screens do and do not have a place.

I feel like for classes for younger kids, technology is definitely not good. Kids should be playing, using their hands, and actually experiencing things instead of being on tablets in kindergarten. I think using computers in school is good though. It’s a lot more efficient, and we live in a society where fast and efficient things are the trend.

— sarah, maryland

I think screens have their place, and will always have their place, in schools and education. The capabilities of computers will always surpass anything else, and they should not be banned from school environments. Still, I have one exception: English class. Other than final drafts of essays, everything in English should be on paper. You can formulate ideas better and minimize outside influence on your thinking.

— Addie, The Potomac School

Essay on Science is a Boon or a Curse? | Short Essay | 400+ Words

Short essay –.

As we all know that everything in the world has its pros and cons, and this thing applies to science also. Now the question is “Science is a Boon or a Curse?” It has made our life comfortable. All the technology, communication, and medical facilities available today are present due to science only.

Electricity is one of the most magnificent wonders of it. Electricity is the primary source of energy. Without electricity, there will be no bulbs, no communication system, etc.

Science has also benefited agriculture. Due to the green revolution, the High yielding variety (HYV) seeds came into use. These seeds increased the production of grains and resulted in a better quality of the crop. Science has also improved irrigation facilities. Nowadays, we have different types of mechanical irrigational systems that help farmers save their time and labour.

It is beneficial for us, but at the same time, it is also very harmful. Science has given birth to many explosives, bombs, cyber-crime, hacking, etc. which are the cause of the destruction of the world. In WW2, America bombed two cities of Japan- Hiroshima and Nagasaki and killed about 40 lakh, innocent people.

So, after seeing all the advantages and disadvantages of science, we can conclude that science is both a boon and a curse at the same time. It can also be very beneficial for us if we use it correctly.

Essay on Science is a Boon or a Curse?

Long Essay –

Introduction.

As we all know that everything in the world has its pros and cons, this thing applies to science also. It is beneficial for us, but at the same time, it is also very harmful. From the Stone Age to Modern age, all the changes are possible due to science. It has made our life comfortable. All the technology, communication, and medical facilities available today are present due to science only.

Advantages of Science

Electricity is one of the greatest wonders of it. It is a significant source of energy. Without electricity, there will be no bulbs, no communication system, etc. If it was not there, then all these things were not possible.

The discovery and development of all the natural resources are due to it only. All the metals, chemicals, elements, compounds are the result of science alone. Without it, there will be no furniture, cars, aeroplanes, etc. Due to these discoveries, we are living comfortably.

Science has also benefited agriculture. Due to the green revolution, the High yielding variety (HYV) seeds came into use. These seeds increased the production of grains and resulted in a better quality of the crop. It has also improved irrigational facilities. Nowadays, we have different types of mechanical irrigational systems that help farmers save their time and labour.

Disadvantages of Science

Science is also very harmful for all. It has given birth to many explosives, bombs, cyber-crime, hacking, etc. which are the cause of the destruction of the world. These bombs and explosives have taken the lives of many innocent human beings. In WW2 America bombed two cities of Japan- Hiroshima and Nagasaki and killed about 40 lakh, innocent people.

Artificial intelligence is a huge invention in the history of science, but, now this is a big problem for us. People use it in the wrong way. Today the cases of hacking and cyber-crime have increased very much. People are using artificial intelligence to rob people and get money. This is a terrible impact of science on our life.

So, after seeing all the advantages and disadvantages of it, we can conclude that science is both a boon and a curse at the same time.  The government is also taking some steps to reduce cyber-crimes and ethical hacking. We should also be cautious while using artificial intelligence. It can steal our data such as bank passwords, etc. and send these things to other people. The latter use it in the wrong way. It can also be very beneficial for us if we use it correctly. So we should all be careful and not use it in the wrong direction; otherwise, it will only cause destruction.
