Oh where to begin. My simple review is: It was made for people who haven't read the manga. The story was lacking. In the best way, it was too soft. Vanitas' issues were downplayed. Especially during the ball and he was reduced to "Silly looking Vani wants to play doctor." It's supposed to be bread crumbs. A slow fall. Important things were dropped. Things in the catacombs were dropped. Foreshadowing is a key player here. Animation was good. It kept the pretty boy style and didn't rob Jeanne of her shape. I really have nothing to say about sound. Characters, characters, characters. Yes I love the characters but not as much here. Vanitas went from angry at him self to sad boi. Domi had more to her character. Her obsession with Jeanne was not simply to dance and make Noe upset. Olivier... I won't start on him. Characters had corners chisseled off. They were ironed out. They were watered down. It's disappointing. What saves this and gives it a better review? Animation and sound. But a note to everyone getting upset about the ending being given away in the beginning: It's a history. That's why episodes and chapters are called memiors. Adding on as RIPAnime suggests: I find the characters watered down because there wasn't enough time to explain the issues they have. Parts that could help were skipped. Vanitas has issues with his past and he has those issues today. Dominique isn't upset simply because of Noe not returning her feelings. She likes and cares for Jeanne genuinely, but the affection isn't there enough. Character development does happen later, but it seems like it will be harder without these starting pieces. While we don't get to the bottom of their past at the beginning, we haven't gotten far from the surface when we should be digging a hole.

Vampires in Paris, The City of Flowers, beware, something evil lurks, hunting for your true name. Child or elder, it matters not. Parade of Charlatan will twist you, make you a monster. You're own family will be your feast.   Your only salvation is the infamous clockwork grimoire, The Book of Vanitas or death. Noé Archiviste searches for the book, only to have it come to him via a charismatic, unhinged young man calling himself Vanitas, a vampire doctor. Whitty, bloody, and sexy (but not ecchi); it's quite the fun ride. As the series progresses we learn more about the characters' dark, blood splattered pasts all with beautiful art and comedy mixed in.  If you like this series, I recommend reading the manga of the same title to get deeper into these characters. The anime is nearly all canon, but there are a few things that are glossed over.   I rate it 16+. A child is beheaded right in front of their friend. Lots of blood and thoughts of suicide.

The setup for this episode is really interesting. They're taken to a restaurant and served some tarte tatin (something something apples something forbidden fruit...), Noé is clearly into it but he isn't the first to finish his portion, Jeanne is. Noé's blood is said to be sweet by these two. This happens even before their conversation about what happened in that balcony between her and Vanitas. Noé is the second to finish. Dominique's is half-eaten. Vanitas doesn't care about the sweetness and gives his portion away. Luca's is basically unchanged. This whole scene sets what's happening later in this episode very well using the desserts as an allegory.

In Episode 2, Noe and Vanitas finally teamed up and set on their journey to cure the curse-bearing vampires. However, it’s tough for anyone to believe that the sinister Book of Vanitas is used for such a noble purpose.

When they were fighting a rogue vampire, Jeanne and Lucius showed up before them. They believe that the book left behind by the blue moon vampire is the reason behind the sudden spread of curses in the town.

Can Vanitas prove his innocence? Or will he be crushed by Jeanne’s Crimpson Gauntlet?  We bring you the latest episode update of this anime.

1. Episode 3 Preview & Speculation      

Episode 3 of The Case Study of Vanitas, titled “Fangs that Lay Bare Blood,” will tell us about Vanitas’ plans to keep continuing with his works as a vampire doctor and avoiding Jeanne at the same time.

I don’t think Jeanne will hesitate to kill Vanitas the next time she catches hold of him. So, the only way out is to prove his innocence by treating a curse bearer in front of everyone.

Since the whole purpose of creating the Book of Vanitas is to take revenge on the vampires, even I find it hard to believe that Vanitas has no evil intentions behind his deeds. But then again, Noe has no other option but to trust Vanitas in order to save Amelia.

Moreover, Jeanne isn’t the only threat that he needs to be careful of. Johann warned Date that Lord Ruthven is after the Book of Vanitas, and Vanitas may get targeted anytime.

2. Episode 3 Release Date         

Episode 3 of the The Case Study of Vanitas anime, titled “Fangs that Lay Bare Blood”, has been released on Saturday, Jul 17, 2021.

Since this anime runs on a weekly schedule, new episode releases are seven days apart.

Episode 3 of The Case Study of Vanitas will be released as per schedule. No such delay has been announced.         

3. Episode 2 Recap        

I. an unexpcted invitation.

In Episode 2, Noe wakes up locked in a cell to find that he passed out in the road, and the guards caught him. Their belongings have already been confiscated, including the Book of Vanitas.

The two were quarreling about the mess they have got into when a guard opens the gate and informs them about their invitation to Count Orlok’s place.

They head right to their invitation, where they aren’t well accepted and rather treated as a threat. The only reason for summoning them was that the Count has no clue how to use or even open the Book of Vanitas.

II. To Save a Friend

It seems Orlok has little faith in Vanitas’ claim of being a vampire doctor. He completely rejects the idea of curing curse bearers and bluntly says that the only way of treating the rogue vampires is execution.

Moreover, he has kept Amelia imprisoned desire of her being cured by the Book of Vanitas. This reminds Noe of his friend who got executed by Bourreau for having the curse of the Blue Moon.

Noe doesn’t want to go through the trauma of losing a friend again, so he requests Orlok to give them one day to prove their claims. The only way out is to capture a curse bearer alive and treat him/her in front everyone.

Later, Dante arrives to give them the intel about a rogue vampire who has taken 12 lives in the last few days. It’s Thomas Berneux, an extremely powerful vampire who came from beyond the barrier two months ago.

III. The Crimson Gauntlet Wielder

While pursuing Thomas, Vanitas comes across Jeanne and Lucius, who believe that the Book of Vanitas is responsible for the sudden onset of curses in Paris. Lucius wants to destroy the cursed grimoire to save his brother from the curse.

Jeanne turns out to be a wielder of the Crimson Gauntlet. She belongs to the army of 1000 vampires who sided with humans in the Great War and slew their own kind.

Thanks to Noe’s presence of mind, they somehow managed to escape with minor injuries. But, how long will they have to keep running? Can they ever prove their innocence? We have to wait for the upcoming episodes to find that out.

The Case Study of Vanitas manga is created by Jun Mochizuka. It started serialization in the Monthly Gangan Joker magazine in December 2015. It is receiving an anime adaptation in July 2021.

Noe, a young vampire, is in search of a cursed book called The Book of Vanitas. However, on his flight to Paris, he comes face to face with Vanitas and realizes that he is a self-proclaimed vampire doctor.

Somehow Noe ends up as Vanitas’ partner to heal vampires who are going feral under an evil influence.

Lucius Oriflamme , usually called by the pet name " Luca " is one of the supporting characters from Jun Mochizuki's The Case Study of Vanitas series.

Appearance [ ]

Luca is a very young boy, probably barely adolescent. As such, he is much shorter than any adult and has not yet experienced the physical development that accompanies puberty. His face is round and childlike, with very thin eyebrows, large upward-pointing green eyes, and long eyelashes. He has short reddish-brown hair with his two distinct cowlicks on either side. Short bangs fall down his face and are cut near his hairline.

In his first confrontation with Noé and Vanitas, Luca wears a green-silver detailed button-up mantle, somewhat similar to hoppelande, with a high loose collar and knee-high neck. Underneath, he wears short black trousers that reach halfway down his shins, a white shirt with loose sleeves, white socks, and black shoes. wearing a hat.

Personality [ ]

Luca is calm, responsible and mature. He is sometimes naive and shy towards those he likes, but the adult vampires surrounding Luca underestimate his strength and will as a whole. I will do anything to protect my loved ones.

Luca also has a very aggressive side, which he usually shows when someone endangers, harms, or harasses Jeanne increase. Luca often tries to hide his childish side, and he has a habit of squeezing his clothes, bags, and hands when he gets nervous.

• Enhanced speed, strength and endurance.
• Pyrokinesis - Luca can produce flames from his body with explosive bursts, but he seems to be completely unable to control this ability.

It has been serialized in Square Enix’s shōnen manga magazine Monthly Gangan Joker since December 2015. In North America, the manga is published in English by Yen Press.

Main Characters

Vanitas is one of the main protagonists of The Case Study Of Vanitas. He presents himself as an “average human being” using the power of the Book of Vanitas to cure vampires of the Blue Moon curse. Vanitas was named after the vampire, Vanitas, from the original Blue Moon tale.

Noé Archivist is a young man who is on board the airship La Baleine accompanied by his cat Murr. He has been living in the forests of Averoigne for many years. He has his first flight in an airship when he helps a young woman, Amelia, who has just fainted because of her anemia.

Jeanne is a female vampire who supports her master Luca, who is her knight, wherever he may go. … She is also known as the executioner of Sire Ruthven, and her legend tells that she alone killed more than a thousand vampires who had joined the humans during the great war.

Lucius ‘Luca’ Oriflamme, better known as Grand Duke Oriflamme, is a young vampire noble and advisor to the queen.

Loki Oriflamme (ロキ・オリフラム, Roki Orifuramu ) is a character from Jun Mochizuki 's The Case Study of Vanitas . He is a Vampire of the Crimson Moon and in particular a member of one of Vampiric society's most powerful families, the Oriflammes , thus making him the elder brother of Luca and adoptive nephew of August Ruthven . He also serves as a Beastia , directly under the command of the Queen herself. However he is a curse-bearer and thus condemned to a life of isolation despite his high status.

While Luca sought out the Book of Vanitas in order to alleviate Loki's curse, August Ruthven denied Vanitas permission to do so when given the opportunity, stating that salvation comes in many forms. Loki remains isolated and shackled within Castle Carbunculus.

When Naenia is stabilized in Gévaudan, Loki was together with his brother Luca. He reassures a frightened Luca and seems to be quite relaxed about the Queen’s momentary return.

The case study of vanitas.

There once lived a vampire known as Vanitas, hated by his own kind for being born under a full blue moon, as most arise on the night of a crimson one. Afraid and alone, he created the “Book of Vanitas,” a cursed grimoire that would one day take his vengeance on all vampires; this is how the story goes, at least.

Vanitas no Karte follows Noé Archiviste, a young man who is traveling aboard an airship in 19th century Paris with one goal in mind: to find the Book of Vanitas.
