It’s not easy to land a job at a beverage company. These companies are often gigantic and get hundreds of applications tailored to each specific position. Whether there’s an official job opening on a large beverage company's website, or you’re simply inquiring about a potential job at a small, local brewery, this cover letter template will help you nail the application process.

Include Your Contact Information

Forgetting to include contact information is one of the biggest mistakes you can make in an application letter to a beverage company. If they can’t contact you, human resources might as well throw your application in the trash. Include your name, address, phone number and email address in the upper right corner of your beverage or beer sales cover letter.

Address the Recipient

Your covering letter is your opportunity to demonstrate why this potential employer simply can’t afford to ignore you. It’s your chance to make it clear why you are different from the rest and that you absolutely must be on their interview list. This isn’t an easy task, however it can be done.

10 tips to help you get your covering letter spot-on:

Plan it carefully. Like most things in life, great execution comes from great planning. Take the time to plan your covering letter carefully and make sure you have included everything you’d want to hear if you were the employer.

Give a range of points of contact. It’s essential that you make it easy for your prospective employer to contact you. On your covering letter you need to make sure you have your home address, an email address and at least a mobile phone number that you can be contacted on.

Pay special attention to the first paragraph and the last line. Busy people have a tendency to scan written material and it’s typical that more attention is paid to the opening paragraph and the close of any letter. Make sure it looks and (if you’re sending it by post) feels good. If you’re sending your letter by email you don’t need to worry about print or paper quality, but you still need to make it look good. Using some subtle colour and perhaps two, but no more, fonts will make your letter look more professional. Look around online for ideas of layouts if you’re stuck. If you’re printing your letter, make sure you use a high quality print and a nice, thick paper. If needs be go to a print shop to have your letter printed. When it comes to folding the letter, make sure you get it right first time unless you decide to send it in an A4 envelope.

Microsoft is reportedly shuttering one of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) teams, according to an internal email sent by the team's leader to a significant number of Microsoft staff last week, in which the lead also accuses the company's executive leadership of "investigated and evidenced discrimination, harassment, and toxicity."

The email, first reported by Business Insider and corroborated by IGN, was sent by the former lead of one of Microsoft's key DEI teams. In it, they state that their "role and team were eliminated due to 'changing business needs' as of July 1st, 2024." IGN understands that the individual and a second person on their team were both laid off, but was not able to reach the sender for comment.

The email goes on to assert that DEI programs are in danger not just at Microsoft, but across all businesses:

"Unofficially in my opinion, not specific to Microsoft alone, but [ conservative policy plan ] Project 2025 looms and true systems change work associated with DEI programs everywhere are no longer business critical or smart as they were in 2020. Hence the purposeful and strategic 3-5 year shelf life of many company's inclusion commitments post the murder of George Floyd are being reevaluated," the email reads. "And the way I see it, the timing was impeccable so businesses everywhere could reevaluate the path forward should their U.S. federal contracts be at risk if the work continues on its face."

The email goes on to praise the work of DEI teams at Microsoft, saying that "impossible mountains were moved" during their tenure and celebrating the "brilliant, ethical, and world class strategists at the company, helping to make the world a better place." However, they also accused executive leadership of "investigated and evidenced discrimination, harassment, and toxicity" directed toward them during their time at the company.

In a statement shared with Business Wire and since shared with IGN, spokesperson Jeff Jones said: "Our D&I commitments remain unchanged. Our focus on diversity and inclusion is unwavering and we are holding firm on our expectations, prioritizing accountability, and continuing to focus on this work."

Microsoft is just one of numerous tech and gaming companies that made major commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in the last four years, particularly in the wake of the 2020 murder of George Floyd and the summer of Black Lives Matter protests that followed. Microsoft in particular unveiled a "racial equality initiative" , pledging to increase representation, invest an additional $150 million in diversity and inclusion, and double the number of Black and African American leaders in its US divisions by 2025.

However, in the years since, a number of tech companies such as Google and Meta have begun to make significant cuts to the DEI programs they launched in 2020.

Earlier this year, Microsoft laid off 1900 staff from its video game divisions , and closed both Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin . Last year, the wider company laid off over 10,000 individuals .

IGN has reached out to both the email sender and Microsoft for comment, but did not hear back in time for publication.

Airlines grounded flights. Operators of 911 lines could not respond to emergencies. Hospitals canceled surgeries. Retailers closed for the day. And the actions all traced back to a batch of bad computer code.

A flawed software update sent out by a little-known cybersecurity company caused chaos and disruption around the world on Friday. The company, CrowdStrike , based in Austin, Texas, makes software used by multinational corporations, government agencies and scores of other organizations to protect against hackers and online intruders.

But when CrowdStrike sent its update on Thursday to its customers that run Microsoft Windows software, computers began to crash.

The fallout, which was immediate and inescapable, highlighted the brittleness of global technology infrastructure. The world has become reliant on Microsoft and a handful of cybersecurity firms like CrowdStrike. So when a single flawed piece of software is released over the internet, it can almost instantly damage countless companies and organizations that depend on the technology as part of everyday business.

“This is a very, very uncomfortable illustration of the fragility of the world’s core internet infrastructure,” said Ciaran Martin, the former chief executive of Britain’s National Cyber Security Center and a professor at the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University.

A cyberattack did not cause the widespread outage, but the effects on Friday showed how devastating the damage can be when a main artery of the global technology system is disrupted. It raised broader questions about CrowdStrike’s testing processes and what repercussions such software firms should face when flaws in their code cause major disruptions.

Wahaha heiress Kelly Zong Fuli quits Chinese drinks giant 5 months after founder’s death

In the letter seen by the Post, Zong said Hangzhou’s Shangcheng district government and some of Wahaha’s shareholders had questioned her legitimacy as the company’s leader, leaving her unable to perform her duties of managing Wahaha and its subsidiaries.

“I have already tendered the resignation letter to Hangzhou Wahaha Group and all the shareholders and urged related parties to take responsibility of hiring a new general manager,” she said in the letter, dated Monday.

Calls to an official in Wahaha’s public relations department went unanswered. Two sources with knowledge of the matter said it was still uncertain whether the company’s board or the local state-owned assets watchdog had accepted Zong’s resignation.

The shake-up adds to the tumult at Wahaha, which was once China’s biggest drinks maker but has lost market share as a lack of products catering to younger customers collides with increased competition from the likes of Nongfu Spring.

An investment arm under the Hangzhou Shangcheng district government is the biggest shareholder in Wahaha, with a 46 per cent share. Zong’s family has a 29.4 per cent interest, followed by a stockholding party representing Wahaha’s employees with 24.6 per cent.

Wahaha, which means “laughing child” in Chinese, posted a 35 per cent year-on-year decline in sales to 51.2 billion yuan (US$7.1 billion) in 2022, the latest annual figure available, according to the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce.

Rival Nongfu Spring’s revenue increased almost 30 per cent to 42.7 billion yuan in 2023, and its founder Zhong Shanshan is now ranked as China’s wealthiest businessman with net assets worth US$53.4 billion, according to Bloomberg data.

The younger Zong, 42, has been working to win back market share since taking the helm. She picked a new brand ambassador, spent more on TV commercials and expanded online sales through live-streaming commerce.

An only child, she graduated with a degree in international business from Pepperdine University in the US and then started her career at one of Wahaha’s factories to learn how to manage production. She was named as vice-chair and general manager in December 2021, paving the way for her to take over the business empire her father created.

The family was ranked 31st on China’s rich list in 2023 with wealth of US$13.1 billion, according to the Hurun Research Institute. It was the richest family in the nation in 2010 and 2012.

Zong also owns Hongsheng Group, a drink and packaging-service company she has been in charge of since 2007, where she launched her own brand of tea drinks, KellyOne.

The elder Zong founded Wahaha in 1987 after transforming it from a school grocery. He built the empire by launching nutritious milk drinks and bottled water. Wahaha grabbed headlines in the early 2000s for a tussle with French multinational Danone over control of local joint ventures. The elder Zong resolved the dispute by paying an estimated US$500 million to the French partner.

On Tuesday evening, the program took a step in the right direction.

With an auditorium filled with prospective baseball players and their parents in attendance, Kempsville’s administration took the first step in healing when they introduced Luke Stice as the program’s new coach. He replaces John Penn, who is no longer with the school.

“I knew this was something that we had to do,” he said. “We took our time with it because we knew we wanted to get the decision right. That was more important than anything else, is making sure we made the right decision. And the selection committee, we are very confident that we did. We’re real happy to have Coach Stice.”

What sold Wolff on Stice was how he addressed the issues head-on and didn’t waver, unlike others.

“I knew we had to find the right person to meet the moment,” Wolff said. “We needed a person to rebuild the culture to lead the program through a process of rebuilding trust with the community, the school and with each other.”

Stice, who was the Chiefs’ head junior-varsity coach the past two seasons, said he knew addressing the issue was the only way.

“Just being first-hand in the situation and seeing the impact that it had on the boys really drove me to say, ‘This is really screwed up,'” he said. “I just kept communicating with them the whole time, keeping that door of communication open with them and letting them know that I’m here for them.

“The players on the JV team also faced some challenges to deal with once the news came out. I knew from that moment, if anything changes (regarding a coaching opening), I will be the man for this job.”

Kempsville pitcher/outfielder TJ Davis was on hand for the introduction. Davis, who is Black, said he believes in Stice, who is white.

“I’m very excited to see what he brings to the team and how he creates bonds with all the players and brings us together,” said Davis, a rising senior. “I feel like he really wants for the program to do better.”

Kempsville principal Melissa George said the committee made the right decision with the hiring of Stice.

“It’s like a weight lifted off because I know there is someone I can trust that’s going to come in and have the best interest of this team,” she said. “He said he wants to heal the team and build culture. The wins will come after that.”

Stice is ready for the challenge, but he knows it will take time.

“I’m not going to put a timeline on it. It could be a year, it could be five years. I don’t know how long it will take,” he said. “But with (the administration’s) support, I know we’ll get the culture right.”
