Youth-Led Solutions for the EU Youth Empowerment Fund Through the Global Youth Mobilization Open Call 2024

The European Union, in partnership with the Global Youth Mobilization (GYM) and the “Big Six” youth organizations, is excited to announce the launch of the Open Call for the EU Youth Empowerment Fund (YEF) through the Global Youth Mobilization. This initiative aims to empower young people to drive positive change in their communities by providing micro-grant funding for innovative, youth-led solutions that advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Who Can Apply?

Young individuals aged 14 to 30 from eligible countries:

What We’re Looking For

Projects addressing global challenges aligned with the SDGs, especially those led by or for underrepresented young people, including those from lower socio-economic backgrounds, those facing gender equality issues, and individuals with disabilities. We are particularly interested in projects focusing on climate change and environmental sustainability.

Funding Details

Individual Young People and Informal Groups: €500 to €1,500
Registered Youth Organizations: €3,000 to €5,000

Selection Process

A diverse panel of young individuals will review and score applications. Successful applicants will be notified within two months and will need to sign a grant agreement and submit their banking information. Unsuccessful applicants will receive feedback to help strengthen future submissions.

Capacity-Building Support

To assist applicants, we offer a series of capacity-strengthening webinars and resources, including sample application answers and FAQs. These are designed to help applicants submit the best possible projects.

About the EU Youth Empowerment Fund

The EU Youth Empowerment Fund, part of the EU’s Youth Action Plan, supports youth-led initiatives globally, providing accessible funding to foster local solutions. The fund is implemented by GYM, an alliance of the world’s largest youth-serving organizations, and focuses on youth-led decision-making and solutions related to the SDGs.

The Partners

The European Union’s Youth Action Plan guides this initiative, focusing on young people as essential partners in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement. The Global Youth Mobilization (GYM), an initiative of the Big Six youth organizations, has supported over 640 youth-led projects and engaged more than 600,000 young people worldwide since its establishment in 2020.

Funding And Grant Resources For Nonprofits Focused On Youth Programs

For nonprofits whose target audience is primarily underserved youth, the task of finding funding shouldn’t be difficult. Many foundations focus much of their philanthropy work on youth empowerment—and for good reason. The youth will eventually be the citizens and leaders of tomorrow and ultimately make invaluable contributions to their families, economic growth, peace building, and sustainable development for all of our communities.

The foundations on this list are just a few of the many that understand the importance that youth empowerment plays in helping young people from all backgrounds grow and excel during this critical stage of their life.

See if any of the funders serve your community and if you qualify for funding. If your nonprofit serves other areas, check out the other funder lists I recently wrote, including ones on Education , Arts & Culture , and Environment & Conservation .

Grant Research Tip: While there are more than 100,000 potential grant funders across the United States, they typically are very specific in what they fund and where they fund. For that reason, your organization and its activities will not be of interest to most of the funders out there.

Daniels fund, highland street foundation, whas crusade for children, cleveland foundation, the columbus foundation, the skillman foundation, the dallas foundation.

The Global Fund for Children engages young people who are also the least likely to have access to mainstream education and training, including girls, refugees, young people with disabilities, and youth engaged in hazardous work. They prioritize programs that advance young people’s political and civil participation and rights, that amplify youth voices, increase their decision-making powers, and raise awareness of their rights and needs, and that empower young people to educate and inspire their peers to act.

Areas served: Worldwide

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation supports children, families, and communities as they strengthen and create conditions that propel vulnerable children to achieve success as individuals and as contributors to the larger community and society. They accept applications at any time. There are no deadlines or specific grantmaking cycles.

Areas served: Mexico, Haiti, US (priority: Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, New Orleans)

The National Park Trust, in partnership with the USDA Forest Service, is offering the Every Kid Outdoors Transportation Grants Program, which will support the transportation and activity needs of nonprofit organizations and schools across the United States that are connecting elementary school-aged youth to public lands. Grants up to $5,000 will be provided to schools and organizations looking for the funding needed to connect kids in their community to local public lands and waters through a positive and impactful outdoor experience.

Areas served: US

The Allstate Foundation works to empower youth to succeed at school, in their communities, and in life, and is committed to fostering their ability to become equitable and inclusive leaders and establish healthy personal relationships that are free of violence. The Foundation’s current funding opportunity will grant $3 million across two focus areas: The Relationship Violence Prevention Programs & Inclusive Leadership Programs for Youth and Educators. The Kars4Kids Small Grant Program’s mission is to support the development of youth into productive and engaged members of society. They accept submissions from any United States-based, IRS-recognized nonprofit organizations focused on work that benefits America’s children. Grants typically range from $500-$2,000, depending on such factors as mission alignment and availability of funds.

Good Sports creates opportunities in sports and physical activity for kids through donations of brand new sports equipment, apparel, and footwear. Their goal is to help youth-serving programs increase the total number of youth participants, enhance the experience for all young people involved, and create new opportunities in physical activity for the kids they serve. They accept applications on a rolling basis.

Lucile Packard Foundation For Children’s Health

The Lucile Packard Foundation invests in programs and projects that contribute to improving systems of care for children with special health care needs and their families. They pursue systems change through three focus areas: care coordination, family engagement, and systems and standards. They give priority to programs and projects that can affect a large number of children and families, build on existing knowledge, and have the potential for sustainability and replicability.

The Ben & Jerry’s Foundation supports grassroots groups throughout the United States and its territories that organize for racial equity and social and environmental justice. But specifically in Vermont, through their Community Action Team Program they fund organizations that address basic human needs (such as food, housing, health, elder and childcare) within Vermont’s under-served populations, including elders, youth, low-income and communities of color.

The Daniels Fund focuses on supporting highly effective and ethical nonprofit organizations that achieve significant results in the community. They support character-building programs that help youth become confident, patriotic, and independent.

Areas served: Colorado, Wyoming

The Highland Street Foundation is committed to addressing the most pressing needs and concerns for children and families in Massachusetts and California. They provide access and opportunities in education, housing, mentorship, health care, environment, and the arts. While they do not accept unsolicited requests for funding, they will accept a letter of inquiry from organizations that align with their priorities.

Areas served: Massachusetts, California

The WHAS Crusade for Children makes life better for children with special needs by inspiring generosity with their community partners. Established in 1954 by WHAS-TV, WHAS raises money for agencies, schools, and hospitals to better the lives of special needs children. Together they provide resources to impact all children with special needs.

Areas served: Kentucky, southern Indiana

The Cleveland Foundation is the community foundation serving Greater Cleveland, including Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geauga counties. It is made up of more than 1,300 funds representing individuals, families, organizations, and corporations. Its mission is to enhance the lives of all residents of Greater Cleveland, now and for generations to come.

Areas served: Cleveland/Ohio

The Columbus Foundation invests in a broad range of nonprofit organizations working to strengthen and improve their community. Grant funds are made available across a variety of categories, based on donor intent and the guidance of our Governing Committee. Their Fund for Targeted Needs supports a wide variety of donor interests, including health, animal welfare, community improvement, conservation, youth development, substance abuse, special populations, and more.

Areas served: Columbus/Ohio

Robin Hood is New York City’s largest poverty-fighting organization. For over thirty years, they’ve been finding, fueling, and creating the most impactful and scalable solutions to lift families out of poverty in New York City. They partner with more than 250 nonprofits to provide food, housing, education, legal services, workforce development, and more to New Yorkers living in poverty across all five boroughs.

Areas served: New York City

Through grantmaking and relationship building, the Skillman Foundation leverages networks of champions that share a vision of equity in school and outside of it, where all kids have access to the support they need to thrive. They believe that by “placing children at the center of this movement, their well-being becomes the focus of their collective work, and with it comes higher achieving students, highly-engaged young people, and a brighter future for Detroit.” Check out their current funding opportunities.

Youth Development Fund

Youth Development Fund (YDF) is a socio-economic programme for start-ups and expanding businesses. YDF was introduced in the financial year 2009/10 as an economic empowerment programme meant to assist aspiring youth to venture into various economic enterprises funded at 50% loan & 50% grant. MYSC works in collaboration with other stakeholders such as Local Enterprise Authority to build the spirit of entrepreneurship and other government ministries and parastatals who offer technical support. YDF aims to achieve the following:

Promote active participation of youth in the socio-economic development of the country
Encourage the out of school, marginalized, unemployed and underemployed youth to venture into sustainable and viable income generating projects
Promote the development of competitive, sustainable and growth-oriented citizen owned youth enterprises
Reduce rural-urban migration by making it attractive to start growth-oriented enterprises in rural areas.
Create sustainable employment opportunities for young people through the development of sustainable projects.
Botswana citizens aged 18-35 years
Out-of-school youth
Unemployed youth
Underemployed youth earning less than P2 500/month
Youth cooperatives comprising of 5-10 members
Existing youth businesses: self-funded and funded through other government schemes such as LIMID, Poverty Eradication, Out of school youth grant whose businesses have operated for 6 months and above
Call for applications is done annually between May and June.

A cash-flow forecast statement covering all revenue and expenditure for a period of 12 months
Two (2) sets of quotations covering all items included in the proposed budget
A copy of valid license of operation (where applicable)
Certified copies of valid national identity document (Omang) for all business partners
A letter of intent to lease or lease agreement in cases of operating businesses or proof of ownership thereof
Curriculum Vitae of all members/partners
Certified copies of vocational and or academic certificates or traceable references (where applicable)
Copy of partnership deed, or cooperative constitution, or memorandum and articles of association (where applicable)
Company resolutions for loan application
Succession plan
Certificates of business registration and shareholder's certificate should show full details (i.e. names and ages) of members. (Form 2 & 5 listing Company Directors)
Certified copies of parents/guardians/spouse’s national identity card (Omang)
Proof of market (letters of intent to buy from potential customers, market research report)
The expert consultation form should be part of the YDF form as a guide to youth to consult with the relevant experts that are in line with their proposed projects (where applicable)
For married applicants (in community of property) there should be written consent from the spouse
ITC clearance report upon approval and this should be provided by the applicant
Applicants to provide documents confirming suitability of the proposed project site

The European Commission and the world’s largest youth organisations, the “Big Six”, announced a partnership today to launch the EU Youth Empowerment Fund

The European Union and the world’s largest youth organisations, the “Big Six”, have partnered to bring exciting opportunities to young people in the form of the EU Youth Empowerment Fund, implemented through the Global Youth Mobilisation.

Launched in October 2023, the Youth Empowerment Fund is a flagship initiative of the Youth Action Plan designed by, with and for young people.

The €10 million pilot initiative will provide and facilitate access to vital resources for young people to contribute to the sustainable development of their local communities and societies in EU partner countries to reach the objectives of Agenda 2030 , in line with the EU’s Global Gateway strategy.

Young people will lead on all aspects of the Youth Empowerment Fund, from selecting grant beneficiaries, to sitting on the board of the initiative, supporting mentoring and capacity strengthening programmes, and participating in the design, leadership and implementation of projects in their communities.

Open call to Empower Young People

The EU in partnership with the Big 6 Youth organisations launched the open call for applications to the EU Youth Empowerment Fund through the Global Youth Mobilization.

This call aims to empower young people to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) locally within their communities.

The call offers micro-grants to support innovative, youth-led projects addressing local challenges. The initiative aims to increase participation of under-represented young people, including those from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, those facing gender equality issues or disabilities to enable impactful solutions. Individual young people and informal groups can receive funding ranging from 500 to 1500 EUR , while registered youth organisations are eligible to receive between 3000 and 5000 EUR.

European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen : “The EU Youth Empowerment Fund is there to help young people get their ideas off the ground and contribute to sustainable development in their community. These concrete opportunities that we are delivering to young change-makers around the world in partnership with the Big Six and the Global Youth Mobilization are exactly what our first-ever EU Youth Action Plan is about: engage, empower, connect.”

This call is an excellent opportunity for young people to play a more active role in their communities! The Fund provides resources for young people globally to advance the objectives of Agenda 2030 in line with the EU’s Global Gateway strategy.

The deadline for applications is Sunday 21 July 2024.

To celebrate Europe Day on 9 May, the European Union and the Big Six are opening applications to join as a Youth or Senior Youth Panellist. The Youth Panel is a youth-led initiative to decide how and where Youth-led solutions funding is awarded.

As a Youth Panellist, the member selected will have the chance to make an impact in accelerating youth-led progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

The EU Youth Empowerment Fund is a flagship launched on the first anniversary of the Youth Action Plan for EU External Action (2021 – 2027), the EU’s policy framework for a strategic partnership with young people to build a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable future. This initiative had been co-designed with young people to provide easier, youth-friendly access to finance. The Youth Empowerment Fund focus on youth-led decision making and solutions related to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals at a local level. Global Youth Mobilization is an initiative of the 'Big Six' Youth Organisations, an alliance of leading international youth-serving organisations.

Established in 2020, the Global Youth Mobilization is an initiative of the Big Six. From 2020-2022, it invested more than $5 million to support 640 youth-led projects, which engaged more than 600,000 young people and reached over 3.6 million people across more than 125 countries.

Formed in 1996, the Big Six Youth Organisations are an alliance of leading international youth-serving organisations. Beware ‘National Youth Empowerment Fund’ scam on Facebook and WhatsApp

An amateur-looking website titled “National Youth Empowerment Fund Application Form 2021” has been shared widely on WhatsApp and Facebook .

“National Youth Empowerment Funding Application Form 2021 online for registration exercise which is the quickest to apply for is now out for all bonafide citizens only who needs helping hands in their various Business and Education,” reads one Facebook post that links to the site.

“The National Youth Empowerment Funds is vision into giving out N150,000 – N550,000 grant to every Citizen under the age 13-65 years From 2021-2024.”

The site’s home page shows the flags and coats of arms of several African countries, including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Uganda.

It says the fund is “aiming to create at least 774,000 empowerment opportunities through direct youth empowerment over a period of two years”. People are invited to fill out a form to apply.

But is the site – and the “National Youth Empowerment Fund” – legit?

Who is running the site?

Facebook posts advertising the site, and the site itself, are full of grammatical errors. This is often a sign that you are dealing with a scam.

And at least one Facebook post only offers the grant in naira, Nigeria’s currency, even though the site appears to represent several African countries.

A Whois search reveals that the site was registered in the US on 13 July 2021. Its current IP location is the US state of New Jersey.

The IP history shows that since it was registered the IP address has been changed four times and hosting history has been changed five times.

Engagement bait scam

After filling in the application form, the website instructs applicants to share the post to seven WhatsApp groups in order to receive the cash grant.

This is an engagement bait scam, where people are asked to interact by liking, commenting or sharing. The more people interact with a post, the greater its reach. Usually there is no reward for that.

EU launches the Youth Empowerment Fund: new partnership with the world’s largest youth organisations to support young people contributing to the SDGs

The European Commission and the world’s largest youth organizations, the “Big Six”, announced a partnership today to launch the EU Youth Empowerment Fund , to be implemented through the Global Youth Mobilization (GYM). It marks the first anniversary of the Youth Action Plan for EU External Action , the EU’s policy framework for a strategic partnership with young people to build a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable future.

As a flagship initiative of the Youth Action Plan, and designed by, with and for young people, the EU Youth Empowerment Fund is a €10 million pilot initiative. It will provide and facilitate access to vital resources for young people to contribute to the sustainable development of their local communities and societies in EU partner countries across the world to reach the objectives of Agenda 2030, in line with the EU’s Global Gateway strategy.

The Fund is launched today in Nairobi, Kenya in the presence of the European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen, Carlos Sanvee, the Chair of the GYM, and young leaders from across the world.

Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen said: “ Our Youth Action Plan has three pillars: engage, empower and connect. The Youth Empowerment Fund embodies them in practice and responds to the calls from young people during the consultation process. Together with the Big Six, we will facilitate access for young people to the tools they need to initiate change and mobilise their peers. Our micro-grants will support youth-led projects, contribute to sustainable development and build recognition for young people as change-makers. Through this partnership, we will deliver concrete opportunities in local communities to achieve the SDGs, ensuring that no-one is left behind .”

Global Youth Mobilization Chair and World YMCA Secretary-General Carlos Sanvee said: “Young people are the solution, not the problem. Time and again, they have the solutions to the challenges they and their communities face. The future is theirs. The EU and the GYM will provide them the platform, the funding, and the facilitation to get their ideas off the ground. We in the Big Six are delighted to work together with the EU and would like to thank the Commissioner for her leadership and exceptional commitment to young people all over the world.”

Helga Mutasingwa, Youth Representative and Activist , said: “ The launch of the Youth Empowerment Fund through GYM is welcome news for young people around the world. Young people are the experts in their own lives. We know that when given direct access to resources, the opportunity to lead, and the support and networking opportunities to connect with one another, they can make a positive difference for themselves and their communities. The partnership will break down barriers to funding; provide opportunities for mentoring, coaching and capacity strengthening; unlock opportunities for marginalised and under-represented communities; and engage, empower and mobilise young people to create local solutions to the world’s biggest challenges from climate change and gender equality to access to education and employment.

Accessible funding for youth-led initiatives to accelerate progress towards the SDGs

Despite facing unparalleled challenges and being disproportionately affected by worsening inequalities in society, young people are a powerful force for change, and youth-led and youth co-created initiatives have enormous potential to contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Yet young people often face barriers in accessing funds and opportunities to scale up successful initiatives.

The EU Youth Empowerment Fund through the Global Youth Mobilization will address this challenge by making low-barrier funding accessible for young people at the grassroots community level, minimising “red tape” and creating accessible opportunities that are relevant to the needs and priorities of young people, including marginalised and under-represented populations.

The Fund will also support mentoring and coaching opportunities, as well as capacity strengthening of young people to build their resilience, and help them lead, take action and advocate for their needs.

Young people will lead on all aspects of the EU Youth Empowerment Fund through the Global Youth Mobilization, from selecting grant beneficiaries, to sitting on the Board of the initiative, to supporting mentoring and capacity strengthening programs, and participating in the design, leadership and implementation of projects in their communities.

The first activities of the Youth Empowerment Fund will start in late 2023, with first grants being disbursed to young people in early 2024.

The federal government through the Ministry of Youth Development has re-opened applications for the Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) program.

Earlier in May, The Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, announced that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved the allocation of N110 billion in capital for startups and early growth stage businesses targeting the youth demographic.

Dr. Bio-Ibrahim outlined the overarching goals of promoting well-being, excellence, national unity, and sustainable development, all aimed at enabling young Nigerians to realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.

She affirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing comprehensive reforms within the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), including initiatives focused on skills development to enhance the capabilities of youth corps members.

About the Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF)

The Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) is a government initiative designed to empower Nigerian youth by providing financial support to help them start or expand their businesses.

Launched by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the NYIF aims to address the challenges young entrepreneurs face in accessing capital to bring their business ideas to life.

The fund offers a variety of financial instruments, including loans, grants, and equity, to eligible applicants, thereby promoting economic growth, job creation, and youth empowerment across various sectors of the economy.

The Nigerian Youth Investment Fund, initially established in 2020, was originally set at ₦75 billion. The NYIF, which aims to financially empower Nigerian youth to generate at least 500,000 jobs between 2020 and 2023, is funded with an initial take-off seed capital of N12.5 billion.

The Nigerian Youth Employment Action Plan was developed by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development (FMYSD) as a built-in strategy to respond effectively to the youth employment challenge in Nigeria.

The major objectives of the plan are to address the fragmentation of youth initiatives that prevent the assessment of impact and to provide Nigerian youth with the investment inputs required to build successful businesses that can become sustainable employers of labour and contributors to Nigeria’s development.

Eligibility and Application Process

Young people aged 14 to 30 from eligible countries for Official Development Assistance (ODA) can apply for the EU Youth Empowerment Fund through the Global Youth Mobilization grants. We welcome young individuals, informal groups or registered youth-led organizations eager to address global challenges aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We strongly encourage applications from diverse backgrounds, particularly those from underrepresented groups like young people in challenging circumstances, those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, or individuals experiencing barriers related to their gender or disability.

Young Individuals: People who are between 14 and 30 years old (born between 1994 and 2010). Informal Youth Groups: A group of two or more young people between the ages of 14 and 30 , who are not officially registered as an organization in their country. Registered Youth-Led Organization: A group of two or more young people who have officially registered their organization in their country and have a registration ID or number, and an official registration certificate.

We can only accept one project idea from you at a time. There will be a total of three Open Call cycles under the EU Youth Empowerment Fund through Global Youth Mobilization. If your project idea is not awarded, you are welcome to apply again in the subsequent cycle taking into account any feedback received. If your project idea is awarded, and you have successfully completed the project, feel free to submit another innovative idea in a subsequent call. This approach allows you to dedicate the necessary attention to each project and maximize your potential for success.

You can be involved in more than one project, but it is important that you only take lead on one project at a time, in which you are the named applicant. A named applicant cannot apply for more than one project.

We are looking for innovative projects that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and make a meaningful impact within your community. Whether your project focuses on environmental protection, education, or health and well-being, it should aim to bring positive change, regardless of its size. The SDGs cover 17 diverse goals, including reducing inequalities, quality education, and climate action. For those new to the SDGs, you can learn more about each goal here . While your project can touch on multiple goals, we ask that you identify one main SDG that your project primarily supports in your application.

We do not fund projects that are primarily profit-oriented or that do not have a clear and direct community benefit. Specifically, the following are not eligible for funding: > Start-up businesses or agricultural operations that seek profit without clear social impact. > Investments in technology, property, or office space that do not serve a direct community purpose. > Projects that mainly involve purchasing materials or livestock, where these do not significantly contribute to social goals. > For-profit projects with no obvious social purpose, or those that intend to use grants as seed funding for other businesses or individuals. > We focus on supporting projects that aim to have a clear social impact. While projects can generate a surplus, this surplus must be reinvested back into the community or project itself.

The duration of your project depends on the funding level you are applying for: Level 1: Your project should take no more than 3 months to complete. Level 2 – 4: Your project should take no more than 6 months to complete. For the Open Call – Cycle 1, the implementation dates for your project are as follows: Level 1: Your project should take place between November 2024 and February 2025. Level 2 – 4: Your project should take place between November 2024 and June 2025. These guidelines will help you plan the timeframe for your project based on the funding level you are applying for.

Yes, that’s okay! There are no restrictions to the length of your project activities, as long as it does not exceed 3 months for Level 1 funded projects, and 6 months for Level 2-4 funded projects. Here’s an example of how your project timeline could look like for a Level 1 funded project: Project: Menstrual Hygiene Workshop – 1 month in November 2024 to plan and prepare for your workshop – 2 days in December 2024 to run the workshop – 1 week in January 2025 to evaluate the success of the workshop and produce reports

Yes, if you were previously awarded funding in the first phase of GYM, you can apply again. However, we require that your new application be for a different project . This ensures a diverse range of initiatives are supported and encourages innovative solutions.

No, not necessarily. However, the project proposed must be led and run by at least two young persons aged 14-30, with the full support and partnership with the organization.

You must provide information about the organization, including the organization’s mission, the organization’s registration number or ID, and a copy of the official registration certificate/document.

Funding Details

The Youth Panel decides funding amounts based on the project’s needs, potential impact, and budgetary requirements. The maximum amount you can request is determined by your project team type. Team types: Individual young person: Up to EUR 1500 (Level 1 and 2) Informal youth group: Up to EUR 1500 (Level 1 and 2) Registered youth-led organization: Up to EUR 5000 (Level 1 – 4)

We offer different funding based on the project’s needs and team size. Level 1: Up to EUR 500 (all team types, ideal for smaller projects or testing new ideas) Level 2: EUR 501 – EUR 1500 (all team types, ideal for projects with a broader reach/deeper impact) Level 3: EUR 1501 – EUR 3000 (registered youth-led organizations only, ideal for small-scale projects with measurable community impact) Level 4: EUR 3001 – EUR 5000 (registered youth-led organizations only, ideal for medium-scale projects with measurable community impact)

As an individual applicant or an informal group, you can choose to apply for funding within Level 1 (up to EUR 500) or Level 2 (up to EUR 1500). As a registered youth-led organisation, you can choose to apply for funding at any level. Should you apply for the higher level in each, you will be expected to provide more detail in your end-of-project report, including thorough budget breakdowns and more frequent updates through photos, videos, and other documentation. To decide which level to apply for, consider the following: a. Scale of your project: Is your project small with limited needs, or does it have a wider scope requiring more resources? b. Project management capacity: Do you have the time and skills to manage the budget requested? c. Impact and ambitions: Does your project aim to have a broad impact, or is it a pilot that could be scaled up later? d. Preparation and planning: Are you ready to provide a detailed report and evidence of impact through photographs, videos and or testimonials? e. Resource Needs: Will a smaller amount of funding suffice for your project goals, or do you need the higher limit to fully implement your ideas?

The levels are flexible brackets; you can request any amount up to the maximum specified for each level. For example, if you are applying for Level 1, you can request funding ranging from a few Euros up to EUR 500. This allows you to tailor your funding request to the exact needs of your project without having to stretch your budget or project scope unnecessarily.

Funds are securely transferred via bank transfer. The recipient must be an adult aged 18 years or older due to international banking regulations. For registered youth-led organizations: Funds will be transferred directly into the organization’s bank account. The organization name and account must match the application. For individuals or informal groups with a youth representative aged 18 or older: Funds will be transferred directly into the youth representative’s personal bank account. For individuals or informal groups with a youth representative aged 14-17: Funds will be transferred to a named adult representative, who will manage the funds on behalf of the project. This adult may or may not be directly involved in the project. Bank details will be collected from you after your project application is approved.

Funds can be utilized for various project activities, including materials, events, workshops, outreach efforts, and administrative expenses related to the project. As a general guideline: > For grants of EUR 1500 and above, costs related to salaries for the project implementation team, stipends for partners or volunteers, and overall project management should not exceed 50% of the total grant. > Expenses for purchasing materials or equipment (excluding communications materials) to support project development should not exceed 20% of the overall budget. We understand that certain projects may require allocations exceeding these guidelines. If this applies to your project, please provide a detailed justification in your application. Ultimately, we aim to fund projects with reasonable budgets based on their nature and scale.

As part of your application, you will be required to complete a budget breakdown to explain how you plan to allocate the awarded funds to complete your project. You should separate your costs by budget lines (e.g. communications materials; salaries; supplies or equipment; transport) and provide a breakdown of the item names and quantities under each budget line (e.g. Venue rental for 3 days ; Materials to build 100 water filters; Fee to hire 1 trainer) accompanied by the total cost per budget line. A clear breakdown of costs will allow the panel to understand your project better, and how achievable it might be. Please provide all costs in EUR (you may use the conversion rate of the day using trusted conversion sites such as XE or Oanda or a pre-set EUR conversion rate you may already be using as an organisation).

Application Submission and Review

We will conduct a total of three (3) rounds of the Open Call. These cycles are spaced three (3) months apart and we refer to these rounds as Cycle 1, Cycle 2, and Cycle 3. The first cycle’s open call starts from 27 June 2024 until 21 July 2024.

The Open Call – Cycle 1 application closes on 21 July 2024, 23:59 hours (CET).

Applicants will be informed of the Youth Panel’s decision within two (2) months after the application deadline by email.

The judges are members of the Youth Panel, composed of diverse young individuals from around the world who have experience in social projects, and understand the challenges and needs of youth-led initiatives.

An application can be disqualified if: > Eligibility Criteria Not Met : You do not meet the full eligibility criteria. > For-Profit Elements : Your project has strong elements of being for-profit. > Incorrect Funding Level/Amount : You applied for a funding level or amount that has exceeded the maximum limit for your applicant type. > Irrelevant Answers : The answers provided are not related to the question asked. These four factors will cause an application to be immediately disqualified, so be sure to check them before applying.

The European Union, in partnership with the Global Youth Mobilization (GYM), an initiative of the world’s largest youth organisations—the “Big Six”—is launching an OPEN CALL for applications to the EU Youth Empowerment Fund through the Global Youth Mobilization until July 21 . This call aims to fund innovative local ideas from young people that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their communities.

The Open Call will support through micro-grant funding for community-based projects from individual young people or youth groups that tackle sustainable development challenges in their local communities. The initiative aims to increase the participation of under-represented young people, including those from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, those facing gender equality issues or young people with a disability. Individual young people and informal groups can receive funding ranging from 500 to 1500 EUR , while registered youth organisations are eligible to receive between 3000 and 5000 EUR.

NYIF Applications Reopen: N110 Billion Allocated for Youth Startups

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Youth Development, has reopened applications for the Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) program.

The announcement was made via the Ministry’s official X handle, where a link to the application was provided.

The post, titled “CALL FOR APPLICATION: NIGERIA YOUTH INVESTMENT FUND,” reads: “Are you a young entrepreneur with a vision for the future? The Federal Ministry of Youth Development is delighted to announce the relaunch of the Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF).”

In May, Dr. Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, the Minister of Youth Development, announced that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved the allocation of N110 billion in capital for startups and early-growth-stage businesses targeting the youth demographic.

Dr. Bio-Ibrahim highlighted the ministry’s overarching goals of promoting well-being, excellence, national unity, and sustainable development. She emphasized the aim of enabling young Nigerians to realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.

The minister also reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing comprehensive reforms within the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), including initiatives focused on skills development to enhance the capabilities of youth corps members.

The Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) is a government initiative designed to empower Nigerian youth by providing financial support to help them start or expand their businesses. Launched by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the NYIF aims to address the challenges young entrepreneurs face in accessing capital to bring their business ideas to life.

The fund offers a variety of financial instruments, including loans, grants, and equity, to eligible applicants, promoting economic growth, job creation, and youth empowerment across various sectors of the economy.

Initially established in 2020, the NYIF was originally set at ₦75 billion. The fund aims to financially empower Nigerian youth to generate at least 500,000 jobs between 2020 and 2023, supported by an initial seed capital of N12.5 billion.

The Nigerian Youth Employment Action Plan, developed by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development (FMYSD), is a strategy designed to respond effectively to the youth employment challenge in Nigeria. The plan’s major objectives are to address the fragmentation of youth initiatives that prevent the assessment of impact and to provide Nigerian youth with the investment inputs required to build successful businesses that can become sustainable employers of labor and contributors to Nigeria’s development.

Local News | Applications for Long Beach’s Youth Advisory Council are now open

The Office of Youth Development is now accepting applications for its Youth Advisory Council, a group of young people who help ensure authentic youth-led engagement in the design, oversight, and implementation of plans and systems of youth development throughout Long Beach.

“The Youth Advisory Council is a chance for youth to make a real difference in shaping the future of our community,” Mayor Rex Richardson said in a Monday, July 29, press release. “We invite young people to apply for a spot now and be part of driving positive changes together here in Long Beach.”

The council , now in its third year, is an 11-member body with representatives from all City Council districts and two at-large members focused on promoting health equity within neighborhoods disproportionately affected by violence, poverty and adverse health outcomes. Members serve a 12-month term, and monthly meetings are a hybrid of in-person and virtual.

Responsibilities include advocating specific goals outlined in the city’s Youth and Emerging Adults Strategic Plan through collaboration with city commissions, departments, community partners and the mayor’s office; and the council helps engage youth in their district to ensure various perspectives and approaches are incorporated

The Youth Council also plays a key role in helping disburse Measure US Youth Fund dollars to youth-serving organizations through the citywide Youth Power Participatory Budgeting process.

The Youth Advisory Council was established in 2022, following recommendations gathered from sessions where young people from across the city provided insights into outreach strategies, application procedures, selection criteria and retention strategies, according to a press release.

Since then, members have shared their perspective on critical youth health issues, including at the 2024 California Workforce Association’s Youth Summit meeting and at the inaugural Youth Day in the LBC event held in May at Jordan High School.

The council also delivered the city’s first youth State of the City address, which was held in conjunction with Long Beach’s State of the City address in January. Members recently presented a comprehensive three-year update on the Youth Strategic Plan to the City Council.

Youth Council members are compensated $50 for every meeting or activity on behalf, with up to a $1,100 yearly limit. Additional volunteer hours while serving on the council may apply, according to the Office of Youth Development.

To be eligible, applicants must be 16 to 26 years old by Sept. 1; live in Long Beach; be available to meet for two hours, two afternoons per month, in locations across the city; and have a passion for issues affecting youth in Long Beach.

Applications will be accepted through Saturday, Aug. 31. Selected members will be notified four weeks later to the application deadline and receive coaching and development opportunities by city staff.

For youth without computer or smartphone access, a public computer lab is available at the Ronald R. Arias Health Equity Center, 6335 Myrtle Ave. They can also visit any Long Beach Public Library location or any Parks, Recreation and Marine Teen Center during regular business hours to submit digital applications.

“Being on the Youth Advisory Council is a very informative experience that has opened my eyes to the way that city departments work and how various youth-focused organizations impact our city,” Faith Mack, a former youth council member, said in a statement. “The council encourages youth empowerment and has been helpful with providing youth with the tools that they need to become productive and prepared citizens of Long Beach.”
