Do you take a lot of notes? Whether you're in school or working in a job that requires lots of jotting down ideas, you may opt for typing notes on a laptop, but physically writing something down helps you remember and learn more. Putting real pen to paper also just feels good. However, having a digital backup is convenient for on-the-go organization and studying.

There are E Ink tablets, smart pens, and notebooks made to save digital files of your handwritten notes or drawings. You can save files as PDFs, images, and Word Docs, or transcribe them to a text file in Google Docs to make all your notes searchable. Some of these devices can record too, which is great for lectures and interviews. If your notes need an upgrade, we recommend giving these a try. Be sure to check out our Best Dorm Essentials guide , as well as our Best Tablets , Best Laptop Backpacks , and Best Totes guides .

Updated April 2024: We've added the Boox Note Air3 C and Supernote Nomad as new picks. We've also added notes about Kobo's newest e-reader with writing capabilities, the Kobo Libra Colour.

Our Favorite

This is one of the most well-known names in the category and WIRED reviews editor Julian Chokkattu has been using the ReMarkable 2 for more than a year. He says the matte screen feels like paper, writing on it is quick and responsive, and battery life is exemplary. It can last for several weeks on a charge, and you never have to recharge the stylus, which also magnetically sticks to the side of the tablet. There is also a new keyboard attachment if you want to get some typing done (we haven't tried it yet). The tablet is $299, but you'll need to pay for a pen, which is an additional $79, or $129 if you want the one with an eraser on the other end.

There are many ways to organize your work into different notebooks or quick sheets, and you can sort them with tags and folders. You also upload PDFs and ebooks to the slate via the company's app or website, and ReMarkable has a Chrome extension that lets you send any webpage to read on the tablet. You can integrate your notes into Google Drive, Dropbox, or Microsoft OneDrive. However, you may need a Connect subscription ($3 per month) to access syncing and unlimited cloud storage.

When WIRED writer Louryn Strampe reviewed it in 2020 , she noted that other features were lacking and that's still mostly the case. There is no waterproofing, no page-turn buttons, and no backlight. The company has added new capabilities since and the price has come down, but it's still best for the simple task of jotting notes.

A Pricey Upgrade

Boox makes great E Ink tablets for taking notes, but they're much more expensive and heavier to carry around. Writing with the Note Air3's stylus felt similar to the above two picks, feeling natural and surprisingly similar to pen and paper. There are two versions of the tablet: the standard Air3 ($400) has a monochrome screen, while the Air3 C ($500) has a muted colored screen. Opening apps and starting up the device isn't quite as fast as I'd like it to be, though, and it takes a little getting used to Boox's Android system. Definitely read through the user manual because there are functions and gestures you can learn to make the process easier.

There are a bunch of apps available so you can read ebooks, check your emails, or browse your favorite newspaper. If you want all the capabilities of a tablet but prefer writing on E Ink screens, consider this upgrade.

Best for Books

Kobo makes some of our favorite e-readers and this combines reading with note-taking. The Elipsa is pricey, but it comes with a stylus that allows you to mark up ebooks and compatible PDFs. If you're an English major who has to read multiple books a semester, this might be a great option for you to easily keep track of notes. Plus you can create numerous notebooks like the other tablets here. We also liked the marking interface better on Kobo than on Kindles, if you're debating which platform to choose. Pro tip: You can check out ebooks from your local library for free if you have a library card.

★ A cheaper, more colorful Kobo: There's a new Kobo e-reader out that offers some new features and a better price. The Kobo Libra Colour ($219) is waterproof and has new colorful options to highlight and write in the margins, but you'll need to purchase the Kobo Stylus 2 ($70) separately. We're testing it soon and will update this guide soon with our notes.

For To-Do Lists

The Supernote Nomad is small, measuring almost 6 inches on one side and 7.5 inches on the other. Supernote designed it with travel in mind, but I find it to be a great size for a daily digital to-do list or writing down quick notes from a meeting. The pages are a little short for, say, writing notes during a five-hour D&D session (I wrote 14 pages). The software is intuitive to use, and allows you to create multiple notebooks and choose from various templates for each one. There are tons of templates too, letting you choose from multiple lined pages, grids, and even a few calendars. You can organize your notes into folders, and can make a Word doc file too (though you won't have access to all the great templates).

It is a nice size to throw in a bag since it's so small, but I'd recommend it for meetings rather than class notes unless you're a true minimalist in your writing. I also liked using the Canvas Folio ($49) with it since it kept the pen with the e-notebook for me, and woke up the screen when I opened it.

For Beginner Artists

You can take notes with Repaper as easily as with the other items on this list, but I think artists will enjoy easily digitizing their work, especially those just getting started (it's cheaper than an iPad). Repaper uses a tablet and magnetized rings to automatically digitize notes as you work on real, physical paper. Any properly sized paper will work—if it's bigger than the tablet, you won't get an accurate digital version—as will any writing utensil that fits a Repaper Ring (it comes with a pencil).

The Repaper Studio app shows your work in real time if you want it to. That's especially handy if you want to draw directly on the tablet with the included stylus and not use paper or if you're sharing your screen via Zoom for class. If not, you can finish and upload your creation later. You can download sharable time-lapse videos too. It's not without its faults, and I occasionally found it to be buggy when switching between pens, but overall I was impressed.

ipad mini with apple pencil

You May Prefer an iPad

E Ink notebooks are easier on the eyes and feel closer to paper than a glass-screened tablet. But in some cases, you might spend less getting an iPad and an Apple Pencil (and a keyboard if you also want to type sometimes). You can also do more on them thanks to the thousands of apps in the App Store, but still take notes and draw. An iPad is typically more intuitive to use than many of these digital notebooks too. WIRED writer Jaina Grey uses her 11-inch iPad Pro with the GoodNotes and Notability apps for her writing, but there are other models that should work fine.

Read our Best iPads guide to learn about the differences, and check out our Best Tablets guide for other Android offerings.

Neo smart pen and writing example

Our Favorite Smart Pen

Skip the tablet and write directly on paper with a smart pen instead. The Neo Smartpen M1+ is the thinnest and lightest of all the pens I tried, which makes it feel a bit more like your standard pen. Importantly, it's comfortable to hold and use. You should be able to find whatever size and style of notebook you need as well as planners .

The Neo Studio app ( iOS , Android ) is nice, with an easy-to-navigate notebook system and the ability to search for pages by page number or date. You can change the color of the ink and thickness of the lines right on the page as you go, or you can switch them up later and edit the colors of what you've written. This pen doesn't record audio, but if that's something you want, Neo sells a separate recorder that pairs with the pen.

★ Alternative: The Neo Smartpen Dimo ($59) is the cheapest and uses replaceable batteries. It isn't compatible with Google Calendar, iCal, or Outlook like our other picks.

Moleskin smart pen and writing example

A Runner-Up Smart Pen

Moleskine has garnered a devoted following for its classic notebooks and journals, but it has also moved into smart territory . The Smart Writing Set gets you a notebook and pen bundle, so this is the best option for most people starting out. Write in the notebook and it'll appear in the companion app! But you can buy the pen on its own, as well as the smart notebooks and planners in various sizes.

The Moleskine Notes 2.0 app (available on iPhone and Android ) was easy to use once I settled into it. An older version of the app is available for download, but the 2.0 version is more streamlined. A pop-up let me know that 2.0 is still a work in progress and I might need to switch back to the older version if my device is having trouble, but my iPhone 11 didn't have any issues.

Note: I tried the $149 2018 version of the Smart Writing Set, which is no longer available. I haven't tried the 2022 version. They seem identical, but the price has jumped dramatically to $279. There's also a 2016 version still selling for $100 on Amazon, but it's too old.

smart pen

This Pen Prioritizes Audio

The Livescribe Symphony has all the features you'd expect from a smart pen, but it places a heavier emphasis on the ability to record. There are Record, Pause, and Stop labels at the bottom of the notebook pages that you can activate just by pressing with your pen—a feature I really liked. However, the app is a bit clunky, and its transcription tool isn't as good as the other picks on this list. It's still available from Walmart, but no longer for sale on Livescribe's website so it may not have a long life left.

The Symphony doesn't have a power button. Instead, it turns on when the cap is removed and off when the cap is replaced. This is a nice feature, in theory, to make sure you don't forget to turn it on before you start writing. However, the cap easily pops off, which means you risk leaving it turned on and draining the battery.

Rocketbook Journal on colored paper

A Reusable Notebook

I find a lot of joy in brand-new notebooks, but there's no doubt that they can be wasteful. Rocketbook makes several reusable notebooks , planners , and accessories like flashcards . Take notes with an erasable Pilot Frixion Pen (one should come with whichever item you buy), scan photos to the Rocketbook app, and erase the whole thing with the damp microfiber cloth. The app is designed to keep everything organized and easily send things off to Google Drive, Evernote, OneNote, and a handful of other options.

The paper isn't as nice to write on as regular paper, but it's made to withstand a damp cloth. If I took a ton of notes every day, I'd probably want really good paper, but I like that one notebook can last as long as you take care of it. I stuck with the black pen it came with, but some people buy colorful Frixions for more organized notes.

Black tablet propped up on kitchen counter with drawing of a coffee cup and rocket on the screen and digital pens in front

What About the Kindle Scribe?

The Amazon Kindle Scribe ($340) ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends ) is similar and slightly cheaper than the Kobo Elipsa we recommend for readers. They work basically the same, with easy-to-use notebook options. We usually prefer Kindle's interfaces for reading , but marking books is actually simpler on the Kobo—with the Kindle, you have to use sticky notes instead of writing directly on the page. It's fine if you don't take frequent notes, but if you're looking to write in the margins and use colorful highlights, you'll want a Kobo.

Moleskine smart pen

Do You Need a Digital Note Device?

The short answer is no. These devices are expensive, usually costing several hundred dollars when you can simply buy a notebook and pen for a few bucks. But if you like the physical act of writing over typing but need to have digital copies, they're worth considering.

  • Digital notebooks are thin and light but hold hundreds of notes.
  • You can transcribe your notes into text files, making them easier to read and manipulate.
  • Depending on the device, you can export files as PDFs, Google Docs, Evernote files, and more.
  • Instantly digitizes your art too.
  • Need to be charged.
  • Has a learning curve.
  • Most smart pens need to be paired with an accompanying notebook. The upcoming Nuwa Pen promises smart notes on any paper. We'll try it as soon as it's available. As of this writing, it's projected to start shipping in late summer 2024.

Sat / act prep online guides and tips, the 5 best homework help websites (free and paid).

author image

Other High School , General Education

Listen: we know homework isn’t fun, but it is a good way to reinforce the ideas and concepts you’ve learned in class. But what if you’re really struggling with your homework assignments?

If you’ve looked online for a little extra help with your take-home assignments, you’ve probably stumbled across websites claiming to provide the homework help and answers students need to succeed . But can homework help sites really make a difference? And if so, which are the best homework help websites you can use?

Below, we answer these questions and more about homework help websites–free and paid. We’ll go over:

  • The basics of homework help websites
  • The cost of homework help websites
  • The five best homework websites out there
  • The pros and cons of using these websites for homework help
  • The line between “learning” and “cheating” when using online homework help
  • Tips for getting the most out of a homework help website

So let’s get started!

The Basics About Homework Help Websites–Free and Paid

Homework help websites are designed to help you complete your homework assignments, plain and simple.

What Makes a Homework Help Site Worth Using

Most of the best sites allow users to ask questions and then provide an answer (or multiple possible answers) and explanation in seconds. In some instances, you can even send a photo of a particular assignment or problem instead of typing the whole thing out!

Homework help sites also offer more than just help answering homework questions. Common services provided are Q&A with experts, educational videos, lectures, practice tests and quizzes, learning modules, math solving tools, and proofreading help. Homework help sites can also provide textbook solutions (i.e. answers to problems in tons of different textbooks your school might be using), one-on-one tutoring, and peer-to-peer platforms that allow you to discuss subjects you’re learning about with your fellow students.

And best of all, nearly all of them offer their services 24/7, including tutoring!

What You Should Should Look Out For

When it comes to homework help, there are lots–and we mean lots –of scam sites out there willing to prey on desperate students. Before you sign up for any service, make sure you read reviews to ensure you’re working with a legitimate company.

A word to the wise: the more a company advertises help that veers into the territory of cheating, the more likely it is to be a scam. The best homework help websites are going to help you learn the concepts you’ll need to successfully complete your homework on your own. (We’ll go over the difference between “homework help” and “cheating” a little later!)

You don't need a golden piggy bank to use homework help websites. Some provide low or no cost help for students like you!

How Expensive Are the Best Homework Help Websites?

First of all, just because a homework help site costs money doesn’t mean it’s a good service. Likewise, just because a homework help website is free doesn’t mean the help isn’t high quality. To find the best websites, you have to take a close look at the quality and types of information they provide!

When it comes to paid homework help services, the prices vary pretty widely depending on the amount of services you want to subscribe to. Subscriptions can cost anywhere from $2 to $150 dollars per month, with the most expensive services offering several hours of one-on-one tutoring with a subject expert per month.

The 5 Best Homework Help Websites

So, what is the best homework help website you can use? The answer is that it depends on what you need help with.

The best homework help websites are the ones that are reliable and help you learn the material. They don’t just provide answers to homework questions–they actually help you learn the material.

That’s why we’ve broken down our favorite websites into categories based on who they’re best for . For instance, the best website for people struggling with math might not work for someone who needs a little extra help with science, and vice versa.

Keep reading to find the best homework help website for you!

Best Free Homework Help Site: Khan Academy

  • Price: Free!
  • Best for: Practicing tough material

Not only is Khan Academy free, but it’s full of information and can be personalized to suit your needs. When you set up your account , you choose which courses you need to study, and Khan Academy sets up a personal dashboard of instructional videos, practice exercises, and quizzes –with both correct and incorrect answer explanations–so you can learn at your own pace.

As an added bonus, it covers more course topics than many other homework help sites, including several AP classes.

Runner Up: Brainly.com offers a free service that allows you to type in questions and get answers and explanations from experts. The downside is that you’re limited to two answers per question and have to watch ads.

Best Paid Homework Help Site: Chegg

  • Price: $14.95 to $19.95 per month
  • Best for: 24/7 homework assistance

This service has three main parts . The first is Chegg Study, which includes textbook solutions, Q&A with subject experts, flashcards, video explanations, a math solver, and writing help. The resources are thorough, and reviewers state that Chegg answers homework questions quickly and accurately no matter when you submit them.

Chegg also offers textbook rentals for students who need access to textbooks outside of their classroom. Finally, Chegg offers Internship and Career Advice for students who are preparing to graduate and may need a little extra help with the transition out of high school.

Another great feature Chegg provides is a selection of free articles geared towards helping with general life skills, like coping with stress and saving money. Chegg’s learning modules are comprehensive, and they feature solutions to the problems in tons of different textbooks in a wide variety of subjects.

Runner Up: Bartleby offers basically the same services as Chegg for $14.99 per month. The reason it didn’t rank as the best is based on customer reviews that say user questions aren’t answered quite as quickly on this site as on Chegg. Otherwise, this is also a solid choice!

Best Site for Math Homework Help: Photomath

  • Price: Free (or $59.99 per year for premium services)
  • Best for: Explaining solutions to math problems

This site allows you to t ake a picture of a math problem, and instantly pulls up a step-by-step solution, as well as a detailed explanation of the concept. Photomath also includes animated videos that break down mathematical concepts to help you better understand and remember them.

The basic service is free, but for an additional fee you can get extra study tools and learn additional strategies for solving common math problems.

Runner Up: KhanAcademy offers in-depth tutorials that cover complex math topics for free, but you won’t get the same tailored help (and answers!) that Photomath offers.

Best Site for English Homework Help: Princeton Review Academic Tutoring

  • Price: $40 to $153 per month, depending on how many hours of tutoring you want
  • Best for: Comprehensive and personalized reading and writing help

While sites like Grammarly and Sparknotes help you by either proofreading what you write via an algorithm or providing book summaries, Princeton Review’s tutors provide in-depth help with vocabulary, literature, essay writing and development, proofreading, and reading comprehension. And unlike other services, you’ll have the chance to work with a real person to get help.

The best part is that you can get on-demand English (and ESL) tutoring from experts 24/7. That means you can get help whenever you need it, even if you’re pulling an all-nighter!

This is by far the most expensive homework site on this list, so you’ll need to really think about what you need out of a homework help website before you commit. One added benefit is that the subscription covers over 80 other subjects, including AP classes, which can make it a good value if you need lots of help!

Best Site for STEM Homework Help: Studypool

  • Best for: Science homework help
  • Price: Varies; you’ll pay for each question you submit

When it comes to science homework help, there aren’t a ton of great resources out there. The best of the bunch is Studypool, and while it has great reviews, there are some downsides as well.

Let’s start with the good stuff. Studypool offers an interesting twist on the homework help formula. After you create a free account, you can submit your homework help questions, and tutors will submit bids to answer your questions. You’ll be able to select the tutor–and price point–that works for you, then you’ll pay to have your homework question answered. You can also pay a small fee to access notes, lectures, and other documents that top tutors have uploaded.

The downside to Studypool is that the pricing is not transparent . There’s no way to plan for how much your homework help will cost, especially if you have lots of questions! Additionally, it’s not clear how tutors are selected, so you’ll need to be cautious when you choose who you’d like to answer your homework questions.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Using Homework Help Sites?

Homework help websites can be a great resource if you’re struggling in a subject, or even if you just want to make sure that you’re really learning and understanding topics and ideas that you’re interested in. But, there are some possible drawbacks if you don’t use these sites responsibly.

We’ll go over the good–and the not-so-good–aspects of getting online homework help below.

3 Pros of Using Homework Help Websites

First, let’s take a look at the benefits.

#1: Better Grades Beyond Homework

This is a big one! Getting outside help with your studies can improve your understanding of concepts that you’re learning, which translates into better grades when you take tests or write essays.

Remember: homework is designed to help reinforce the concepts you learned in class. If you just get easy answers without learning the material behind the problems, you may not have the tools you need to be successful on your class exams…or even standardized tests you’ll need to take for college.

#2: Convenience

One of the main reasons that online homework help is appealing is because it’s flexible and convenient. You don’t have to go to a specific tutoring center while they’re open or stay after school to speak with your teacher. Instead, you can access helpful resources wherever you can access the internet, whenever you need them.

This is especially true if you tend to study at off hours because of your extracurriculars, work schedule, or family obligations. Sites that offer 24/7 tutoring can give you the extra help you need if you can’t access the free resources that are available at your school.

#3: Variety

Not everyone learns the same way. Maybe you’re more of a visual learner, but your teacher mostly does lectures. Or maybe you learn best by listening and taking notes, but you’re expected to learn something just from reading the textbook .

One of the best things about online homework help is that it comes in a variety of forms. The best homework help sites offer resources for all types of learners, including videos, practice activities, and even one-on-one discussions with real-life experts.

This variety can also be a good thing if you just don’t really resonate with the way a concept is being explained (looking at you, math textbooks!).

Not so fast. There are cons to homework help websites, too. Get to know them below!

3 Cons of Using Homework Help Websites

Now, let’s take a look at the drawbacks of online homework help.

#1: Unreliable Info

This can be a real problem. In addition to all the really good homework help sites, there are a whole lot of disreputable or unreliable sites out there. The fact of the matter is that some homework help sites don’t necessarily hire people who are experts in the subjects they’re talking about. In those cases, you may not be getting the accurate, up-to-date, and thorough information you need.

Additionally, even the great sites may not be able to answer all of your homework questions. This is especially true if the site uses an algorithm or chatbot to help students…or if you’re enrolled in an advanced or college-level course. In these cases, working with your teacher or school-provided tutors are probably your best option.

#2: No Clarification

This depends on the service you use, of course. But the majority of them provide free or low-cost help through pre-recorded videos. Watching videos or reading info online can definitely help you with your homework… but you can’t ask questions or get immediate feedback if you need it .

#3: Potential For Scamming

Like we mentioned earlier, there are a lot of homework help websites out there, and lots of them are scams. The review comments we read covered everything from outdated or wrong information, to misleading claims about the help provided, to not allowing people to cancel their service after signing up.

No matter which site you choose to use, make sure you research and read reviews before you sign up–especially if it’s a paid service!

When Does “Help” Become “Cheating”?

Admittedly, whether using homework help websites constitutes cheating is a bit of a grey area. For instance, is it “help” when a friend reads your essay for history class and corrects your grammar, or is it “cheating”? The truth is, not everyone agrees on when “help” crosses the line into “cheating .” When in doubt, it can be a good idea to check with your teacher to see what they think about a particular type of help you want to get.

That said, a general rule of thumb to keep in mind is to make sure that the assignment you turn in for credit is authentically yours . It needs to demonstrate your own thoughts and your own current abilities. Remember: the point of every homework assignment is to 1) help you learn something, and 2) show what you’ve learned.

So if a service answers questions or writes essays for you, there’s a good chance using it constitutes cheating.

Here’s an example that might help clarify the difference for you. Brainstorming essay ideas with others or looking online for inspiration is “help” as long as you write the essay yourself. Having someone read it and give you feedback about what you need to change is also help, provided you’re the one that makes the changes later.

But copying all or part of an essay you find online or having someone write (or rewrite) the whole thing for you would be “cheating.” The same is true for other subjects. Ultimately, if you’re not generating your own work or your own answers, it’s probably cheating.

5 Tips for Finding the Best Homework Help Websites for You

Now that you know some of our favorite homework help websites, free and paid, you can start doing some additional research on your own to decide which services might work best for you! Here are some top tips for choosing a homework help website.

Tip 1: Decide How You Learn Best

Before you decide which site or sites you’re going to use for homework help, y ou should figure out what kind of learning style works for you the most. Are you a visual learner? Then choose a site that uses lots of videos to help explain concepts. If you know you learn best by actually doing tasks, choose a site that provides lots of practice exercises.

Tip 2: Determine Which Subjects You Need Help With

Just because a homework help site is good overall doesn’t mean that it’s equally good for every subject. If you only need help in math, choose a site that specializes in that area. But if history is where you’re struggling, a site that specializes in math won’t be much help. So make sure to choose a site that you know provides high-quality help in the areas you need it most.

Tip 3: Decide How Much One-On-One Help You Need

This is really about cost-effectiveness. If you learn well on your own by reading and watching videos, a free site like Khan Academy is a good choice. But if you need actual tutoring, or to be able to ask questions and get personalized answers from experts, a paid site that provides that kind of service may be a better option.

Tip 4: Set a Budget

If you decide you want to go with a paid homework help website, set a budget first . The prices for sites vary wildly, and the cost to use them can add up quick.

Tip 5: Read the Reviews

Finally, it’s always a good idea to read actual reviews written by the people using these homework sites. You’ll learn the good, the bad, and the ugly of what the users’ experiences have been. This is especially true if you intend to subscribe to a paid service. You’ll want to make sure that users think it’s worth the price overall!

School marm.

I assigned a nonfiction passage and test and posted it to Google Classroom through this site. How do I retrieve the scores? Thanks!

I do not store any student data due to COPPA regulations.

Please read this for more information about score collecting / keeping: https://www.ereadingworksheets.com/e-reading-worksheets/remote-learning-resources-for-covid-19-shutdowns/#how-to-assign-an-ereading-worksheet

I am loving these online test so fun

Sometimes on the iPad the online versions of the worksheets freeze. Is there something I can do? I’m having my daughter work on the inference one specifically right now. Thank you

I will look into it…

clues climber and Super Grammar Ninja, could you recommend similar games or activities for practicing context clues and grammar? Thank you!

Leslie Sammarco

What a gold mine! Thank you so much for creating and sharing this!

Question: Is there a way to print answer keys to the context clue vocabulary worksheets? Or are they only available to view?

If you try PRINTING the page, I think they format pretty nicely. Let me know what you think.

Dominica Brandon

Can I find past scores from quizes?

No, no student data is stored on this site.

Thanks so much for all your hard work. We are not supplied adequate curriculum in our school, so are always having to hunt down the best ways to teach different concepts. Your materials are rigorous, but also easy to understand. Thanks again!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can all the teachers in my school use the gradebook.

There are several options to provide online gradebooks for teachers in your school. For schools that want to provide pre-populated gradebooks with students and classes already enrolled, the ThinkWave Administrator school management system is the best option. It combines data from all teachers into progress reports, report cards, transcripts, student summaries, and other reports. There is even a tool to upgrade a solo gradebook to a schoolwide version. If there is no need to combine teacher information, options include site licenses for the premium gradebook. Finally, any teacher can always use the gradebook free of charge.

How do I start a new year in the gradebook?

The online gradebook provides a powerful rollover feature, which copies students, classes, custom field data, and more from year to year. This makes it easy to have a fresh start each year, while information from previous years remains readily available. There is even a feature to copy assignments from previous years, simplifying the setup process. For teachers who will be teaching a new set of students during the upcoming year, there is an option to not copy previous-year’s students.

Can I copy assignments from previous years?

Yes, a copy assignments function makes it easy to copy assignments from a teachers gradebook to a different class, term, or year. In the Setup menu, select Copy Assignments, then select the class and specific assignments you want to import.

Can I have different grading options for different classes?

Yes. You first establish default grading options, then customize them for individual classes and even terms. Grades can be calculated using pure points or flexible grading options, which handle letter grades, pass/fail grades, custom grades, assignment-type weighing, and more. Grades can also be calculated by weighting subterms, so for example, the semester grade can be calculated from the quarter grades and final exam.

Can I drop the lowest assignments?

Yes. In the grading options screen for a class, you can drop the lowest scores for any assignment type, such as homeword, projects, tests, or quizzes. These parameters can be set in default grading options, or different classes or terms.

Can I email all the students in a class?

Yes. The messaging function includes email capability, so that when you post a message to students and parents of a class, it can also be sent by email. You can also email reports such as student summary reports or report cards.

Can students and parents access their grades online?

Yes. Every student (and optionally) parent has a personal online account to access grades, assignments, assignment results, messages, and attendance. Each student can have multiple parent accounts, and each parent can see all their students’ data in one view.

Can I send and receive messages from students and parents?

You can post messages to all the students and parents in a class, and enable a public discussion regarding the message. Each assignment can have a class-wide discussion associated with it, and teachers and students and parents can maintain private discussions regarding assignment results.

Am I limited to points-based grading systems?

No. Flexible grading options let you use points, percentage, letter, pass/fail, complete/incomplete, and custom grade scales for assignments, tests, and quizzes. You can use assignment-type weighting, as well as drop lowest assignments. Of course, Pure Points grading scale is also available.

Are there limitations to the number of students, classes, or assignments?

There are no limitations for students, classes, or assignments. There are even instances when an entire school manages all their data using a free gradebook. Of course, the school management system is preferable for schoolwide use, because it combines data from multiple teachers into a consolidated environment. But even so, the free gradebook does not maintain any artificial limitations.

Can the gradebook work for homeschooling?

The gradebook, as well as the student management system , is a perfect solution for a homeschool environment.

Can the gradebook work for college, trade schools, or other environments?

The free solo gradebook is used by teachers and processors in the widest possible range of educational settings. The upgrade to student management software is also used by colleges, trades schools, international schools, parochial schools, foster care environments, and much more.

Can I distribute and collect assignments online?

Yes. The gradebook provides learning management functionality. Teachers can post assignments with rich text and file attachments. Students can submit their work, and teachers can return corrected student work. Public discussions can be associated with assignments, and private discussions between the student and parent are available with each assignment result.

Can I weight grades by assignment type?

Yes. There is the option to use existing or create custom assignment types, as well as the option to calculate the final grade as a weighted average of assignment types.

Can I record custom data in custom fields?

Yes. Custom fields can be defined for students, teachers, parents and classes. Data can optionally be automatically copied to subsequent school years during the year rollover procedure.

Can I import students?

Yes. There are three options to choose from. Simplest is to add students one at a time. Next is a quick add function, which lets you cut and paste a large list of students and import them all at once. There is also an import wizard, which lets you import students from a delimited file, with advanced capabilities including addresses, parent data, and custom field data.

How To Pick the Best Digital Planner for You

How do you determine the perfect planner for you? That depends on whether you need to track assigned tasks, quarterly goals, timesheets, or streamline automation; remember, the possibilities are almost endless.

It’s important to think about the features and what outcomes they should help drive.

We’d strongly encourage you to answer the following questions as you decide on what digital planning app makes the most sense for you and how you want to use a planner at work .

  • Does the digital planner show meetings and important tasks in one place? Any planner app should merge calendar events and tasks into a single view (like an analog/traditional planner does)
  • Does the planner integrate with existing tools? If you already use project management software, the planner needs to pull work out of those systems.
  • Does the digital planner complement existing tools? You don’t need another calendar app. You don’t need another project management tool. You need a way to roadmap your day and finish with a feeling of accomplishment.

How to Complete My Homework Using Technology

electronic homework pages

Back in the 20 th century, students used libraries physical books to complete their homework. That is because the internet was still in its infancy and the information located on it was limited at the time. That is why they had to use books and other sources at their school and local libraries.

In the 21 st century, technology has changed the way students do homework.Gone are the days of poring over physical books, reading it from cover to cover until sufficient information was gathered for use in completing homework.

electronic homework pages

Between the highly reliable internet search engines and the advent of e-books, plus other mobile phone applications meant to ease the work required for homework, technology has made a student’s homework life easier. Students these days are quite fortunate to have this technological option/help when doing their homework.

In this article, we are going to look at ways that technology has made it possible to complete homework.

Hello Internet Search Engines, Goodbye Libraries

electronic homework pages

The first method by which technology has made it easier to complete homework is by the use of the internet. Reliable search engines such as Google and Bing have made libraries obsolete as the simple input of proper keywords from a given homework assignment results in the return of the oldest to the newest information about any given topic. The previews that come up with the search for various sources help students pick the most relevant information to their task. Something that was not easily done towards the late part of the 20 th century when the internet was still a new technology in need of development.

e-Book Readers and Amazon Kindle

electronic homework pages

Since students today no longer need to lug around heavy books due to the advent of electronic publishing, even the act of reading resource materials from class has become easier. Through the help of a mobile phone, tablet, or laptop, a student now can complete his homework from any location, because his schoolbooks and other reference materials are always with him. There is no excuse left to explain why a student won’t read his lesson as part of his homework.

Document Encoding Programs

electronic homework pages

Imagine if you will see the times when our parents and grandparents still used this thing called a typewriter for writing up their homework in a neat manner. Any mistakes in typing required the use of “correction fluid” that took so long to dry that typing over it ruined the presentation. Millions of trees were felled as students used millions of sheets of typewriting paper all over the world in a quest to present a decent looking homework paper. Gone are those days. Thanks to MS Office, Open Office and other free document encoding programs, no more trees need to be harmed in the quest of a student to create a dazzling homework paper. Technology has helped saved tree lives by the millions.

Graphic Design Tools Make Interesting Cover Pages

electronic homework pages

They always say that teachers appreciate a well-done cover page. For informal homework, students have the opportunity to use their imaginative skills in developing an interesting cover page for their work. Using bundled graphics tools in their tablets and laptops, students create eye-catching, artistic cover pages that make teachers forget they are reading an amateur homework.

Group Work Made Easy

electronic homework pages

These days, students don’t actually need to be together physically in a group to do their homework. Electronic homework has changed the face of homework completion because it allows technology to assist students to their fullest capacity. Consulting via video chat, sharing input through Google Docs, even correcting one another via text messaging are all acceptable forms of technological improvement in terms of homework completion.

Electronic Homework Submission

electronic homework pages

Due to technology, there is no longer a reason for a student to be late with submitting his homework or not submitting it at all. “The dog ate my homework” excuse was retired the day schools began to roll out email submissions of homework to the teachers. Students don’t need to submit a physical paper anymore. Virtual papers are now submitted for actual grades. Teachers like it because they don’t need to carry box loads of written papers to their offices. Students like it because they never forget a paper at home. It’s always in one or all of the gadgets a student normally takes to school with him.

Easy Access to Online Homework Help

electronic homework pages

When a student feels stumped by a particularly difficult homework these days, he doesn’t need to feel dumb or depressed. All the student has to do is access an online “Do My Homework” helper who can help him wade through the maze of instructions, formulas, calculations, research, or whatever else information is required for homework completion. This, as far as I’m concerned is the biggest contribution of the internet in terms of technological homework help advancement.

Technology is a gift from the Gods as far as students these days are concerned. None of them can ever imagine a time when they were not plugged into the web. Neither can they picture having to do their homework manually. It is just something they cannot fathom these days. Those dark days of having to do homework the hard way are far behind them now, and with the continuing evolution of technology, homework completion will just become easier and easier for future generations of students.

electronic homework pages

Technology is not the great evil old educators thought it would be. Instead, it saved education by making the lives of teachers and students easier when it came to completing assigned tasks. These two parties involved in the educational process would not have it any other way. Technology is the key to making homework completion easier and worry-free. As the gadgets, software, and apps continue to evolve, so will the method by which homework be completed. Things will only keep getting better for the students from here.
