1. Define the following:

(a) Adjacent Angles

Ans: The angles are said to be adjacent only if they have a common arm/side and a common vertex and they do not overlap.

(b) Supplementary Angles

Ans: When the sum of two angles is ${180^\circ }$, then they are said to be supplementary angles.

(c) Complementary Angles

Ans: When the sum of two angles is ${90^\circ }$, then they are said to be complementary angles.

(d) Linear Pair of Angles

Ans: When a straight line is divided into two parts, i.e., two different angles. Then those angels are said to be linear pairs.

The measure of a straight angle is ${180^\circ }.$ So a linear pair of angles must add up to ${180^\circ }$.

(e) Vertically Opposite Angle

Ans: When two lines cross then they share the same vertex, vertically opposite angles are the angles opposite to one another having a common vertex.

2. Write the complementary angle of ${57^\circ }$.

Ans: The sum of complementary angles is ${180^\circ }$.

Let the other angle be x, then

$x + {57^\circ } = {90^\circ }$

$x = {90^\circ } - {57^\circ }$

 $x = {33^\circ }$ 

3. Write the supplementary angle of ${103^\circ }$.

$x + {103^\circ } = {180^\circ }$

$x = {180^\circ } - {103^\circ }$

$x = {77^\circ }$ 

4. Find the value of x in the given figure.

$ACB{\text{ is a straight line}}{\text{.}}$

$\therefore \,\,\angle ACD + \angle BCD = {180^{\circ \,}}\,\,\,\,\left( {{\text{Linear}}\,{\text{pair}}} \right)$

5. Identify the supplementary and complementary angles.

Ans: Pair of angles whose sum is ${180^\circ }$ are called supplementary angles.

Pair of angles whose sum is ${90^\circ }$ are called complementary angles.

${30^\circ },\,\,{60^\circ }$ and ${12^\circ },\,\,{78^\circ }$ are complementary angles.

6. In the following figures is $\angle 1{\text{ and }}\angle 2$ are adjacent? Give reason.

Ans: Adjacent angles are those that arise from the same vertex and have one arm/side in common.

$\angle 1{\text{ and }}\angle 2$ has a common arm/side but since they do not have a common vertex. Therefore, the angles are not adjacent.

7. Find the value of \[x,\,y\,{\text{ and }}z\].

Ans: From the figure it is clear that $\angle x$ and ${50^\circ }$ are vertically opposite angles

$\therefore \angle x = {50^\circ }$

$\angle x + \angle y = {180^\circ }\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\left( {{\text{Linear pair}}} \right)$

${50^\circ } + \angle y = {180^\circ }$

$\angle y = {180^\circ } - {50^\circ }$

$\angle y = {130^\circ }$ 

Similarly, $\angle y$ and $\angle z$ are vertically opposite angles.

$\therefore \angle y = \angle z = {130^\circ }$

8. If $\angle ABC = {55^\circ }$, then find

$\mathbf{\angle DGC}$

Ans: From the figure we can conclude that  and a traversal line ${\text{BC}}$ is intersecting them.

$\angle DGC = \angle ABC\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\left( {{\text{corresponding angles}}} \right)$

$\therefore \angle DGC = {55^\circ }$

$\mathbf{\angle DEF}$

Ans: From the figure we can conclude that a traversal line DE is intersecting them.

$\angle DEF = \angle DGC\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\left( {{\text{corresponding angles}}} \right)$

$\therefore \angle DEF = {55^\circ }$ 

9. Find the angle which is equal to its complement.

Ans: Let the angle equal to its complement be ${\text{x}}$.

Since the complement of this angle is also ${\text{x}}$. Therefore,

The sum of the measures of a complementary angle pair is ${90^\circ }$.

$x + x = {90^\circ }\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\left( {{\text{complementary angles}}} \right)$

$\,\,\,\,\,2x = {90^\circ }$

$\,\,\,\,\,\,\,x = {45^\circ }$ 

10. Find the angle which is equal to its supplement.

Ans: Let the angle equal to its supplement be ${\text{x}}$.

Since the supplement of this angle is also ${\text{x}}$. Therefore,

The sum of the measures of a supplementary angle pair is ${180^\circ }$.

$x + x = {180^\circ }$

$\,\,\,\,\,2x = {180^\circ }$

$\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,x = {90^\circ }$

11. Find the value of \[x,\,y\,{\text{ and }}z\] in each of the following:

$\angle z = {30^\circ }$ (vertically opposite angles)

$\angle y + \angle z = {180^\circ }$ (linear pair)

$\angle y + {30^\circ } = {180^\circ }$

$\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\angle y = {150^\circ }$ 

${30^\circ } + \angle x + {30^\circ } = {180^\circ }$ (angles on a straight line)

${60^\circ } + \angle x = {180^\circ }$

$\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\angle x = {120^\circ }$ 

12. In the adjoining figure, identify:

(a) The Pairs of Corresponding Angles

Ans: When two parallel lines are intersected by any other line and the angle formed in the corresponding corner are called corresponding angles.

$\angle 1$ and $\angle 5,\,\,\,\angle 2$ and $\angle 6,\,\,\,\angle 3$ and $\angle 7,\,\,\,\angle 4$ and $\angle 8$

(b) The Pairs of Alternate Angles

Ans: they are the angles that lie on the inner side of the parallel lines but on the opposite sides of the transversal. 

$\angle 3$ and $\angle 5,\,\,\,\angle 4$ and $\angle 6$

(c) The Pairs of Interior Angles on the Same Side of Traversal

Ans: when a pair of the parallel lines is intersected by a transversal, the pair of interior angles on the same side of the transversal are supplementary (sum to 180°).

$\angle 4$ and $\angle 5,\,\,\,\angle 3$ and $\angle 6$

  (d) Vertically Opposite Angles

$\angle 1$ and $\angle 3,\,\,\,\angle 2$ and $\angle 4,\,\,\,\angle 5$ and $\angle 7,\,\,\,\angle 6$ and $\angle 8$

13. Find the value of $x$ in the following figure.

Ans: From the figure, line $l$ is parallel to $m$ and a transversal passes through them. Hence,

$\angle y = {105^\circ }$ (corresponding angles)

$\angle x + \angle y = {180^\circ }$

$\angle y = {180^\circ } - {105^\circ }$

$\angle y = {75^\circ }$ 

14. Find the value of ${\text{x}}$ in each of the following figures is a parallelogram.

$\angle x = {120^\circ }$ (corresponding angles)

15. In the given figure check whether parallelogram.

Ans: Consider a pair of parallel lines l and m and a traversal line n which intersects them. Sum of the interior angles on the same side of traversal,

 $ = {116^\circ } + {54^\circ } = {170^\circ }$

As the sum of interior angles on the same side of traversal is not ${180^\circ }$.

Therefore, l is not parallel to m.

A line is a one-dimensional figure that is parallel, has no thickness, and stretches in both directions indefinitely. It's commonly referred to as the shortest distance between two points.

There are 2 Types of Lines:

Intersecting Lines

Intersecting lines are created when two or more lines in a plane cross each other. The point of intersection is where the intersecting lines share a common point that occurs on all intersecting lines.

Non-Intersecting Lines

Non-intersecting lines are made up of two or more lines that do not intersect. These lines that do not intersect will never cross. The parallel lines are another name for them. They remain at the same distance from one another at all times.

In geometry, an angle is known as the figure created by two rays meeting at a common endpoint.

Complementary Angles

If the degree measurements of two angles add up to 90 degrees, they are complementary angles. That is, if we link both angles and position them next to each other, they will form a right angle.

Supplementary Angles

If the sum of the degree measurements is 180° and one angle is said to be the supplement of the other then these angles are called supplementary angles. If we put the angles side by side, we get a straight line in supplementary angles.

Vertical Angles

At the intersection of two sides, vertical angles are the angles that are opposite each other. Since they have a common vertex, they are called vertical angles.

Alternate Interior Angles

When a transversal occurs, alternate interior angles are created. They are the angles on opposite sides of the transversal, but the transversal intersects inside the two lines. If the two lines intersected by the transversal are parallel, alternate interior angles are congruent.

Alternate Exterior Angles

Alternate exterior angles are congruent to each other in the same way as alternate interior angles are if the two lines intersected by the transversal are parallel. These angles are on opposite sides of the transversal, but the transversal intersects outside of the two lines.

Corresponding Angles

The pairs of angles on the same side of the transversal and on the corresponding sides of the two other lines are known as corresponding angles. When the two lines intersected by the transversal are parallel, these angles are equal in degree measure.

Ex 5.1 Class 7 Maths Question 3. Identify which of the following pairs of angles are complementary and which are supplementary? (i) 65°, 115° (ii) 63°, 27° (iii) 112°, 68° (iv) 130°, 50° (v) 45°, 45° (vi) 80°, 10° Solution: (i) 65° (+) 115° = 180° They are supplementary angles. (ii) 63° (+) 27° = 90° They are complementary angles. (iii) 112° (+) 68° = 180° They are supplementary angles. (iv) 130° (+) 50° = 180° They are supplementary angles. (v) 45° (+) 45° = 90° They are complementary angles. (vi) 80° (+) 10° = 90° They are complementary angles.

Ex 5.1 Class 7 Maths Question 4. Find the angle which equal to its complement. Solution: Let the required angle be x°. its complement = (90 – x)° Now, re = 90 – x ⇒ x + x = 90 ⇒ 2x = 90 ∴ x = \(\frac{90}{2}\) = 45° Thus the required angles are 45°.

Ex 5.1 Class 7 Maths Question 5. Find the angle which is equal to its supplement. Solution: Let the required angle be x°. ∴ it supplement = (180 – x)° Now, x = 180 – x ⇒ x + x = 180 ⇒ 2x = 180° ∴ \(x=\frac{180^{\circ}}{2}=90^{\circ}\) Thus, the required angle is 90°.

Ex 5.1 Class 7 Maths Question 7. Can two angles be supplementary if both of them are: (i) acute? (ii) obtuse? (iii) right? (ii) Since, acute angle < 90° ∴ Acute angle + acute angle < 90° + 90° < 180° Thus, the two acute angles cannot be supplementary angles. (ii) Since, obtuse angle > 90° ∴ Obtuse angle + obtuse angle > 90° + 90° > 180° Thus, the two obtuse angles cannot be supplementary angles. (iii) Since, right angle = 90° ∴ right angle + right angle = 90° + 90° = 180° Thus, two right angles are supplementary angles.

Ex 5.1 Class 7 Maths Question 8. An angle is greater than 45°. Is its complementary angle greater than 45° or equal to 45° or less than 45 °? Solution: Given angle is greater than 45° Let the given angle be x°. ∴ x > 45 Complement of x° = 90° – x° < 45° [ ∵ x > 45°] Thus the required angle is less than 45°.

(ii) 25° + x + 40° = 180° (Sum of adjacent angles on straight line) 65° + x = 180° ∴ x = 180° – 65° = 115° 40° + y = 180° (Linear pairs) ∴ y = 180° – 40° = 140° y + z = 180° (Linear pairs) 140° + z = 180° ∴ z = 180° – 140° = 40° Hence, x – 115°, y = 140° and z – 40°

Twins’ Byron Buxton starts rehab assignment; Emmanuel Rodriguez promoted to St. Paul

Byron Buxton began a rehab assignment with the Class AAA St. Paul Saints on Monday. He has been on the 10-day injured list since Aug. 15 because of right hip inflammation.

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. – An important three-game road series in Kansas City looms later this week, and the Twins could welcome a key member of their roster back into the lineup.

Byron Buxton started a rehab assignment with the Class AAA St. Paul Saints on Monday. He went 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout while playing seven innings in center field during the Saints’ 11-8 loss to the Iowa Cubs at CHS Field.

The Saints are off Tuesday, and it’s likely Buxton will play another rehab game Wednesday before potentially rejoining the Twins. Buxton has been on the 10-day injured list since Aug. 15 because of right hip inflammation.

“We’re really getting there with Buck,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. “He’s been waiting to get back out there. This is good. It’s the first step, but it’s an important step. Hopefully, everything goes well and we can see him back out there with us before you know it.”

If Buxton returns for the Royals series, after the Twins play four games against the Tampa Bay Rays, it would a nice jolt for a series that carries playoff implications. The Twins and Royals entered Monday tied in the standings.

Buxton is batting .275 with 16 homers, 23 doubles, 49 RBI and 54 runs in 90 games with the Twins this season. He showed more power after the All-Star break, homering in seven of his first 18 games.

Royce wants to stay at third

Royce Lewis played three innings at second base Sunday, the first time he has played the position in his major league career, after the Twins used a pinch-hitter for Edouard Julien .

Lewis has taken some ground balls at second base during batting practice, but he doesn’t like the idea of playing an unfamiliar position during a playoff race.

“I’m terrified out there,” Lewis said, adding he didn’t want to make a mistake on covering a bunt or lining up for a relay. “Little things like that are just adding extra elements to a September push that’s important to me. I don’t know. We have plenty of really good second basemen, and I don’t want to mess up our defense just because we’re going to try something new. It’s not spring training or Triple-A for that.”

The toughest adjustment, Lewis said, is everything looks different on the other side of the infield. He would feel more comfortable playing shortstop, a position he played throughout his minor league career, but it takes time to learn how to read the ball off the bat and turn double plays from the opposite side.

“The moment you have to think in this game is when the game speeds up on you,” he said. “That’s where I’m worried I’m not ready yet.”

Rodriguez promoted

Twins outfield prospect Emmanuel Rodriguez played only 37 games at Class AA Wichita because of right hand injuries this season, but he will end his season with the Saints.

Rodriguez, a 21-year-old center fielder, was promoted to St. Paul on Monday after rehabbing in Fort Myers. The lefthanded batter hit .298 in Class AA with eight homers, 12 doubles, 20 RBI and 40 runs. He drew nearly as many walks (42) as he had strikeouts (46), producing a .479 on-base percentage.

Baseball America ranks Rodriguez as the No. 2 prospect in the club’s farm system behind 2023 first-round pick Walker Jenkins .

* Max Kepler was scratched from the Twins lineup Monday with left knee soreness, the same injury that sidelined him for a few games last week.

* Manuel Margot , who was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday, was diagnosed with a mild adductor tendon strain after he underwent a magnetic resonance imaging exam. It’s not an adductor muscle strain, which could have jeopardized the rest of his season, but he is shut down from baseball activities for at least the next five days.

Margot traveled with the Twins and received applause from Rays fans when a “Thank You Manny” tribute was played on the video board. After Margot waved to the crowd, Carlos Santana tried to push Margot out of the dugout to lengthen the ovation.
