If you open up the global ranking section, you will probably find that the top player has around 600 wins, whereas if you look at the top 10 rankings, you will see that the player topping the chart barely made twenty-five wins.

That’s where it gets a bit confusing. I will break it down to make it easier for you to understand how the leaderboards work. The global pool contains all the people who played the game during the entire week.

Top 10 Players

On the other hand, the top 10 and 25 rankings are a random pool of people with whom you are put together during the beginning of each week. This pool has around 50 people at the start of each week, and the leaderboard shows the winning statistics of only the chosen 50 members you are grouped with. These two leaderboards for the top 25 and top 10 are reset every three days.

Three inner leaderboards

It is quite interesting why there are three leaderboards for Fortnite rather than just one. Even if you play flawlessly during the week and win each game, you will most likely not end up at the top of the global rankings as it is almost impossible to get six hundred or so wins in a week. Hence, the other leaderboards have a small pool of people and are ranked accordingly.

This gives an incentive to players to look forward to getting on the leaderboard without devoting their lives to the game as the global wins leaderboard only looks like an uphill task. You can try to get at the top of the top 25 or top 10 rankings and are likely to succeed. Since you will be competing with 50 random people who will keep changing, the scores on the leaderboard will keep changing as well.

It increases competition among players. Also, it challenges players and keeps them motivated. You get a chance to show up on the leaderboard and that motivates you to aim for a better score.

Kills Leaderboard

Just like the wins leaderboard, the Fortnite kills leaderboard gives you a picture of where you stand among a pool of 50 random people. Your group will change every couple of days, so there is a chance you can easily get to the top if you are placed with weaker players. That is the main idea behind dividing leaderboards into various sections.

Players get to set a goal for themselves as they compete against the other people in the pool. This leaderboard lets you know the total number of kills you made in the game and whether your performance is better than others.

• Prevention: Carefully review your assignment to understand it. As you research, take the time to evaluate each source notes . Remember, it’s better to have quality citations over an abundance of citations.

Invented sources:

If a reference in a student’s bibliography is found not to exist, it is considered an invented source. This may occur if a student couldn’t find a reputable source to back their argument, or if they needed to include additional references to meet the requirements of the assignment and chose to take an unethical shortcut rather than completing the required amount of research. No matter the reason, this behavior ultimately hurts them in the long run. Not only will they fail to gain the experience they need to conduct research in the future properly, but they’ll also experience significant consequences if they’re caught.

• Prevention: Set aside time to do proper research so you can find enough sources. Start creating a list of sources as you’re researching and take good notes. This will help you keep track of your sources so none are forgotten. If you do end up forgetting where a quote came from, a paper checker could help you pinpoint the original source. 

Patchwriting/Spinning:

Patchwriting is often confused with paraphrasing, but there’s a significant difference. When you paraphrase, you demonstrate that you understand the topic well enough to restate it in your own words. When you patchwrite or spin, it is more akin to a word-swapping game; there’s no need to understand the subject, merely to have access to a thesaurus so you can substitute enough synonyms to mask the source material. This can be intentional, but it may also be a result of having a poor understanding of how to paraphrase.

• Prevention: Using your own words, write down the key points of the phrase or idea, and put them together in a sentence. Be sure to include a citation as well. 

A good way to test if you’re patchwriting or paraphrasing is to remove your sources from view. If you can write about what you’ve read without looking at the source material, you likely understand it well enough to paraphrase it. If you have to review the source material with each new sentence or consult a thesaurus while writing about it (except when you’re adding direct quotations), you may be spinning your sources instead of paraphrasing them.

Academic Integrity Policies and Statements

If you’re still uncertain about what counts as plagiarism, look for your school’s/ organization’s policies on academic integrity and plagiarism. The policies of academic institutions usually cover what is considered plagiarism, the consequences of committing it, and how to avoid it. What are the Consequences of Plagiarism?

No matter the setting, plagiarism is not taken lightly, and the consequences can be significant. For a good reason, too! Whether in an academic or professional setting, the plagiarism consequences reflect the seriousness of the act, which is ultimately a form of theft that hurts everyone involved.

Just as with the theft of a tangible object, there can be legal punishments for plagiarism. It is, after all, a form of copyright infringement in many instances. A quick search for plagiarism articles will reveal that professional instances of intellectual theft have resulted in civil lawsuits and can even be criminally prosecuted under rare circumstances. In addition to the possible legal consequences, professionals may lose their jobs or have to start over in a new field after their acts of fraud are uncovered.

As a student, you’re likely to wonder what happens if you plagiarize in college or high school. While there will almost always be consequences for this behavior, there is no one-size-fits-all plagiarism sentence. Depending on the circumstances, academic dishonesty could result in outcomes such as:

How to win Fortnite: Tricks and tips get better and score a Victory Royale

Whether your goal is securing a Victory Royale in Fortnite  or enhancing your gameplay, we’ve got you covered with essential tips and techniques to elevate your Battle Royale  skills for the next match.

Fortnite has gained immense popularity due to the simplicity of its Battle Royale format, making it accessible to a wide audience. However, understanding its deep-seated mechanics and strategies is essential for navigating the Island effectively.

Whether you want to master the main Battle Royale mode or Zero Build, which doesn’t include building, there are plenty of key skills for you to master. To get that Victory Royale or consistently place highly in Ranked, there is a wide array of tips you can follow for Chapter 5 Season 2  to improve your game, even for the more experienced players.

Here are nine essential tips on how to win Fortnite and score that elusive Victory Royale in Chapter 5 Season 2

1. Find the best landing spots

If you’re still finding your feet in Fortnite, we’d recommend leaving the Battle Bus later than everyone else and landing somewhere quiet . This will give you extra time to gather weapons, stock up on ammo, and farm materials, rather than flying headfirst into a battle that you might not win.

Whenever you decide to leave the Battle Bus, you’ll want to at least land near a POI or landmark as they have more weapons and ammo than desolate areas. Choose one far away from the Battle Bus’ flight path and there will be fewer people there. Avoid popular locations like Mount Olympus or The Underground.

We’ve also got a list of the landing spots with the most chests and weapons if that’s what you’re after.

2. Learn how to build properly

One of the most unique aspects of Fortnite that sets it apart from other battle royale games is building. It might seem intimidating or even a waste of time at first, but mastering the art of building could be the difference between losing and getting that all-important Victory Royale.

You’ll need to farm materials early on in the match so you’ve got a handy stock built up for battles later on. You can do this by attacking almost any structure or item in the game with your pickaxe. There are three types of material: Wood, Stone, and Metal. Wood is weak but builds faster, while Metal is strong but builds slower. Stone is a good middle ground.

Building ramps can get you to high places – which is useful if you’re caught between the storm and a mountain – while walls can defend you and your teammates from enemy fire. A basic tip is to build a cube around yourself, which is especially handy when healing or reviving teammates at a Reboot Van.

A good time to practice building is while you’re waiting for a match to start, or early in a match when there are no enemies around. Alternatively, you could just play Zero Build mode which gets rid of the building aspect altogether if you can’t get to grips with this mechanism.

3. Keep a good range of weapons in your loadout

As soon as you land on the Island, the first thing you should be doing is looking for weapons. You’ll need at least one to defend yourself, but why stop there? You should keep searching chests to find the most powerful weapons as you progress through the match to help you win Fortnite.

A balanced loadout will ensure you can handle any situation. We’d recommend an Assault Rifle to handle medium-distance opponents, an SMG or Shotgun to damage enemies at close range, either a Sniper Rifle to take out faraway targets or an Explosive weapon to blast down walls and enemies at varied ranges, and finally pair these with healing items that boost Shield and Health.

4. Mod your weapons

Once you’ve played a few matches and figured out the weapon (or weapons) you feel most comfortable using, it’s a good idea to get into the habit of modding them when you get the chance. This will make them more powerful and should help you take down opponents.

You can do this by visiting one of the many Mod Benches scattered around the island. You’ll need Gold Bars to pay for upgrades – you can get them by completing Bounties, searching safes and tills, destroying cash registers, and eliminating opponents.

5. Listen out for enemy footsteps

When you’re in the heat of a match, it’s easy to forget some of the simple things you can do to gain an advantage over your opponents. The sound design in Fortnite is great; an opponent’s footsteps can let you know when they’re nearby, and even reveal if they’re above or below you in a building.

If you really want to take advantage of sounds in Fortnite, we’d recommend you play with a decent pair of headphones . This way you’ll be able to shut out distractions and hear the game in greater clarity, which could give you the edge you need to win at Fortnite.

6. Change the sensitivity settings on your controller

While the standard settings on Fortnite are usually a good starting point for most players, you might find that altering them can help you become better at the game. After all, everyone’s playstyle is different.

One of the biggest changes you can make is the sensitivity of your controller . This will help steady your movement when aiming and get those all-important headshots, which deal a lot more damage than regular body shots. You can also change your building preferences.

Access the settings in Fortnite by clicking the gear icon in the top right corner of the game while you’re playing or waiting in the lobby. You can alter the sensitivity levels here, but it’s also worth looking over the other settings, too. There might be a simple change that can be a big help.

7. Hide until the final moments of a match

Whether you agree with this method or not, there’s no denying that playing it safe and being sneaky is a great way to increase your chances of winning Fortnite. The best way to do this is to avoid busy POIs and stay as close to the storm as possible, only moving to the next circle at the last minute.

Use your time in the shadows (or tall grass) to focus on building up the perfect loadout, maximizing your Health and Shield, and collecting material to build with. Once there are only a few players left, it’s time to go on the offensive – although you should still be cautious about your approach.

A good tip is to get to the highest vantage point inside the circle so you can scout the area. If you can’t do this, look for a house or building for some extra defense. Then, wait for other players to engage in gunfights first so you can discover their locations and ambush them.

8. Take cover as much as possible

If you want to come out on top in Fortnite, taking cover is extremely essential. Whether you’re out in the open or at a POI, make use of your environment as much as possible. Remember to crouch to avoid enemies from spotting you. The option to go prone isn’t available in Fortnite which means you can’t hide in the tall grass.

However, the game provides you with a vibrant environment to take cover and hide behind objects. Taking cover becomes even more important in solo matches so if you want to win a Fortnite solo match you will have to prioritize taking cover as you won’t have your teammates watching your back.

9. Learn from your mistakes

One of the most important things you can do in Fortnite is to learn. Your first few games will no doubt be full of mistakes, as you’ll land in areas full of enemies and get eliminated straight away, or accidentally build structures when you try to shoot an opponent (yes, we’re speaking from experience here).

The best way to learn is to watch back your replays , which can be found by scrolling across to the ‘Career’ section when you’re in the lobby. Here, you’ll find recordings of your most recent matches, which you can study to figure out why you lost, and what you can do better next time.

Ultimately, getting good at Fortnite comes down to practice, practice, and more practice. But by following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to winning and securing those Victory Royales.

this is also a review of Fortnite that I posted on the App Store/other Fortnite review places which is why it kind of explains a lot of already known things. TL;DR is that Fortnite isn’t fun and you shouldn’t play it and soon no one will.

Fortnite was fun. For a very long time, too. It was somewhat balanced, the mechanics were intriguing, the skill level was high, and it was a great game to have fun with friends or try and get good at yourself. The competitive scene was incredibly promising with high-tier rewards with some of the biggest names in eSports going after them.

But all that’s gone now.

A few weeks ago, Season 10 started, to a lot of player anticipation, off of a 30 million dollar tournament and probably the largest excitement in at least six months. They introduced a new item called the B.R.U.T.E, a “mech” with targeted missiles, a shotgun with a high rate of fire, and a close range stomping mechanic. It is EXTREMELY AND UNNECESSARILY OVERPOWERED, as it can immediately destroy and overwhelm pretty much anything that comes against it. Towards the end of the game, it’s pretty much “Mech Wars”, with next to no skill involved. Millions of players, casual to average to competitive, have protested against the B.R.U.T.E, saying it is far too easy to eliminate multiple people with it, that it’s impossible to play against, and that anybody with more than one brain cell can win with it effortlessly. Needless to say, this beast straight out of hell definitely needs to get vaulted now.

Today, Epic Games announced their game philosophy, basically what they think about the core mechanics and overall state of the game. In it, I directly quote:

“We’ve heard the frequent discussions (#RemoveTheMech) about the B.R.U.T.E., and decided this would be a good opportunity to explain the Fortnite philosophy. The mission of Fortnite is to bring players of all skill levels together to have a fun experience where anyone can win. For example - everyone having a shot at that first elimination or Victory Royale moment and the satisfying feeling that comes with it. Right now, we know there are players out there who have never had that opportunity.

Another part of the mission is to provide spectacle and entertainment when playing Fortnite. Bringing these moments to the game every week means there is always a new way to enjoy and experience the game.”

To paraphrase this, they have said outright that anyone, no matter the experience, age, knowledge, or skill, should be able to win. For comparison, this is like if the Scripps National Spelling Bee started giving the smart kids words like “woebegoneness”, and then gave a second grader the word “rock”. Or if FIFA started giving away free goals to people who couldn’t run as quickly simply because “everyone deserves to win”. Or if they suddenly started giving bonus points at the end of basketball games depending on how many shots you missed.

The point of games is that they are hard. Through the difficulty of the game, the success that comes with that becomes that much sweeter. I started playing Fortnite in season 3, but I didn’t get my first win until season 5, because the game was hard and I wasn’t that good. Similarly, losing games are sometimes fulfilling if the person you die too is just better than you. I’m fine if I die to a “sweat” because they have put more time, more practice into the game than me and they deserve to beat me simply because they are better. Giving away wins like they’re candy isn’t fun for anyone, whether it’s the person winning or the people losing. The person winning doesn’t feel good about the way they won or that their win was that fulfilling, and the people that lose feel as though their hard work was thrown away.

Secondly, Fortnite’s competitive scene is in absolute shambles. The developers don’t care one bit about how competitive players feel, even when that’s the image of their game. Streamers built this game from the ground up, and Epic Games doesn’t acknowledge or care about that. If you want the game to be a spectacle, then the people who participate in creating the spectacle have to be having fun too. Nobody, I mean nobody, is having fun streaming Fortnite right now, and watching people abuse overpowered items isn’t fun to watch, either.

A perfect example of this is when Psalm played in the Fortnite Winter Royale. During that event, Fortnite had recently introduced a broken weapon called the Infinity Sword, which did incredible damage to builds and players. Psalm had the Sword, and got fifteen kills with it, completely obliterating the entire lobby. Watching the replay, you can tell that his opponents aren’t having fun, he isn’t having fun, the broadcasters feel horrible, and the viewers (mostly competitive players looking to get in on the action was well) were enraged. Epic quickly backed up on the Sword, vaulting it permanently from normal games and heavily nerfing it elsewhere.

A perfect example of what Epic is trying to do is when Stompy and Tschiiinken dropped 30+ kills in a single game in the World Cup Online Qualifiers. They only did that with established weapons such as the Golden Scar, combat shotgun and heavy sniper, arguably some of the best weapons in the game. They didn’t abuse some broken weapon like the sword and the BRUTE, instead relying on aggressive tactics and superb skill. Watching that replay, you can see the adrenaline in them, in the viewers watching and the broadcasters.

In summary, Fortnite is going in a horrible direction that will most likely see their game die competitively and online, with most prominent streamers and YouTubers dropping Fortnite for other games such as Minecraft or Apex Legends. In time, their thousands of viewers will also move on to other games, as what was once a respected and loyal game slowly fades into the dust.

Fortnite May Be Addictive, But Could Also Promote Learning, Say Stanford Experts

Every teacher has to deal with classroom distractions, but one new game is proving especially frustrating for educators across the country—Fortnite: Battle Royale.

The multi-player shooter game, in which players hunt for weapons, build shelters, and battle to be the last one standing, is hugely popular with kids and teenagers. It can also be downloaded and played on mobile phones, making Fortnite a major classroom disturbance.

Earlier this month, Education Week spoke with parents and researchers about how to approach the Fortnite craze . Other experts are also offering guidance: the Stanford Graduate School of Education’s news center spoke with three researchers at the school —Antero Garcia, an assistant professor, Byron Reeves, a professor of communciation, and Denise Pope, a senior lecturer and the co-founder of Challenge Success .

Here are three main takeaways for teachers from their advice:

The game is engineered to be addictive. Video game designers understand the “cognitive structures” that get players hooked, Garcia told Stanford. They aim to create games that will keep players coming back, match after match.

Sometimes, this urge to keep playing can reach unhealthy levels. The World Health Organization’s beta draft of their next International Classification of Diseases includes “gaming disorder,” an affliction where the player prioritizes gaming over other interests and daily activities, despite negative consequences.

But not every student who loves Fortnite is destined for video game addiction. There’s a difference between casual play and unhealthy obsession, Liz Kolb, a clinical associate professor of education technologies at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor told Education Week . Teachers should pay attention to students’ reactions when they tell students to stop playing in class. If kids become combative or can’t focus, that’s cause for concern, she said.

Fortnite isn’t all bad, though: It may reinforce learning skills. Fortnite, and other games like it, require students to practice “teamwork, collaboration, strategic thinking, spatial understanding, and imagination,” the Stanford experts say.

Some players also work on strategy outside of gameplay, employing math and physics concepts to calculate things like the correct angle for a jump or the probability of winning a fight with different combinations of weapons.

Teamwork within games can even promote pro-social behavior beyond the virtual world, John Velez, an assistant professor of journalism and electronic media at Texas Tech University, told Education Week .

“The working with others, the collaboration—particularly at the middle school and high school level—that’s what kids crave,” Pope told Stanford.

Teachers can use students’ interest in the game as a classroom engagement tool. “If you have a lot of kids who are playing Fortnite, then that seems like a real opportunity to think about the kinds of connections you can make,” Garcia told Stanford. “Turn it into an intellectual enterprise.”

Garcia offers media analysis questions that teachers can raise. Encouraging students to probe the ethics, gender representations, and ideology embedded in Fortnite can lead to “powerful learning” they likely don’t otherwise experience with games, he said.

But encouraging discussion of the game as part of a lesson doesn’t mean that teachers should let students play in the classroom. Teachers should require that kids keep phones out of sight—in their backpacks, for example—unless the phones are “intentionally” part of the lesson, said Pope.
