Verizon Launches 2.0 Business Smartphone Plans – More Premium and Mobile Hotspot Data

Verizon rolled out some changes to their lineup of Business Unlimited Smartphone plans, adding more mobile hotspot data and higher network management thresholds but otherwise keeping other plan terms the same.  These new plans carry the same names (Start, Plus, and Pro) but with a "2.0" added on.

Since that time, both AT&T and T-Mobile upgraded their postpaid plan lineups to offer better features than Verizon, such as more data for hotspot use and better network management terms. 

While Verizon did recently introduce some new and attractive prepaid data plans, Verizon's smartphone lineup has lagged behind the competition - until now. 

Today Verizon rolled out the "2.0" version of their business plans, bringing them more in line with what their competitors are offering.  Although these 2.0 changes are only for business plans, we hope that Verizon makes similar changes to the consumer versions of these plans soon.

Business Unlimited 2.0 Plan Changes

The plans are now called Business Unlimited Start 2.0, Plus 2.0, and Pro 2.0. The "2.0" moniker is appropriate because the changes are not new plans, but upgrades to the previous versions. 

Here are the 2.0 changes:

More Mobile Hotspot Data

On the previous plan lineup, the Start plan had no high-speed mobile hotspot data, the Plus plan had 30GB, and the Pro plan had 60GB.

With the 2.0 lineup, high-speed mobile hotspot data for each plan is increased. Start 2.0 now has 5GB of mobile hotspot data, Plus 2.0 has 50GB, and Pro 2.0 has 100GB.

As before, once the high-speed mobile hotspot cap is reached, speeds will slow to 600 Kbps while on the 4G and 5G Nationwide networks, and to 3 Mbps while on 5G Ultra Wideband (5G Ultra Wideband applies to Plus 2.0 and Pro 2.0 only).

Network Management

Additionally, the network management thresholds for the Plus 2.0 and Pro 2.0 plans were increased.

On the Start plan, data was always subject to network management deprioritization and that doesn't change with the 2.0 version - all data is still at a lower priority.

On the Plus plan, the network management threshold was increased from 60GB to 100GB.

On the Pro plan, the limit was 120GB but with Pro 2.0, the network management threshold is eliminated, meaning that data use is never deprioritized - all data will be premium data.

Other Plan Details

Other 2.0 plan features remain the same from the previous plan lineup to the 2.0 versions including the price - however, there are greater multi-line discounts for 5+ smartphone lines, which are now $5/month cheaper. Pricing for 1-4 lines remains the same.

Other terms that remain the same include video streaming speeds (480p for Start, 720p for Plus/Pro), 5G access (5G Nationwide for Start, 5G Nationwide, and Ultra Wideband for Pro/Plus).

Of note, the 2.0 changes only affect smartphone lines - the features of the Business Unlimited tablet, data device, and smartwatch add-on plans and options remain the same.

Comparison to Other Available Plans

Since AT&T and T-Mobile made improvements to their plan lineups months ago, it's nice to see Verizon finally catching up. While these changes are welcome, and Verizon has recently introduced some new prepaid plans, at this time they have only made changes to their Business Plan lineup for postpaid.

We expect (and hope) to see Verizon make similar changes to their consumer postpaid plan lineup in the near future.

Verizon business phone plans: What are they and are they worth it?

If you're on the search for Verizon business phone plans, here's a look at what the carrier offers

When it comes to business phone plans, Verizon stands out as one of the best options around. Filled with features, backed by some excellent coverage and heavy on the discounts for added lines, there's a lot to like about what Verizon has to offer.

As with standard Verizon phone plans , the best Verizon business phone plans won't be the cheapest option. But if you're looking to stack up on lines, you could end up with some pretty affordable prices for your business.

Verizon keeps things simple, offering just three cell phone plans in its business section. All three options offer unlimited data, calls and texts; the more you pay, the more features that get chucked in.

These extras include security features, mobile hotspots, more advanced 5G and priority data. Verizon also offers business phone deals and 5G internet service. In some cases, Verizon business phone plans can also get you discounts on tablets and phones when you sign up for different plans.

What Verizon business phone plans are available?

The choice in Verizon business phone plans is pretty simple: You can choose between three options, all with unlimited data — Unlimited Start, Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Pro. You can stack the plans up for added discounts with the price falling by $5 per line the more you add.

Verizon Business Unlimited Start Verizon's cheapest business plan, the Unlimited Start offer, features unlimited calls, texts and data with 5G nationwide and 4G LTE. While you do get unlimited calls, texts and data, the plan is otherwise pretty limited. A Call Filter is included for screening potential spam), but you won't get mobile hotspot data or access to Verizon's faster Ultra Wideband 5G network.

Verizon Business Unlimited Plus Jumping up in cost, the Unlimited Plus plan sits in the middle of the Verizon business phone plan offerings, blending features and affordability. You'll get the same basics as the above plan — unlimited calls, texts and data — but you'll also get 60GB of premium network access, giving you priority when there is congestion. You'll also get a unlimited mobile hotspot, access to Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband and, enhanced security features with Verizon's Business Mobile Secure .

Verizon Business Unlimited Pro Finally, Verizon's most expensive business plan — the Unlimited Pro. This plan, just like the two above, includes unlimited calls, texts and data, but it brings your premium data up to 120GB. Other than that, this is almost identical to the Plus plan above with the only other difference being that you can also get 50% off Business Unlimited Pro Tablet plans.

Why choose Verizon?

As the biggest carrier in the U.S., Verizon has the infrastructure, speeds and connections to offer impressive wireless performance. It takes the number 2 spot in our best phone carriers guide and for good reason.

While Verizon has some pretty pricey plans, that's in part because Verizon offerings tend to be packed full of features across all of its plans, including its business options.

Through our tests, Verizon has come out on top for LTE speeds and its Ultra Wideband 5G connections reach more than 80 cities, capable of reaching 1 Gbps download speeds. Verizon's nationwide 5G network isn't that fast, but it does bring coverage to 230 million people.

Among the features included with Verizon business phone plans are Call Filters, enhanced security features and the possibility of additional plans for devices and internet service.

Which other carriers offer business plans?

While Verizon does have some of the best business plans around, it isn't the only provider catering to businesses. The other two major wireless services and many MVNOs offer business plans in some form, some focusing on affordability and others on features.

Like Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile put their priority on feature-filled business plans...at a high cost. With unlimited data, add-ons and a host of features around data prioritization, these are the options if you've got a bit more budget in your business.

Alternatively, if you're looking for something more affordable, a number of MVNOs offer plans that will work well for a business. Mint Mobile for example is one of the cheapest providers in the US and while it doesn't offer specific business discounts, it will likely be the cheapest option for smaller businesses; just don't expect discounts on multiple lines like you'd find with Verizon business phone plans.

Is Verizon Business Unlimited Plus 2.0, 1 Line, Regular Price Worth It for 1 Line?

Verizon Business's Unlimited plan for 1 line costs $80 per month.

It rides on the Verizon network for coverage.

It includes unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, and unlimited high-speed data per month. You get 50GB of hotspot data.Video streams at 720p quality.

It is worth noting that the Verizon Business Unlimited Plus 2.0 plan includes priority data . Having priority data means you will get slightly faster data speeds during times when the cellular network is busy, such as at sports games, concerts, or during rush hour traffic.

Taxes and fees are extra on this plan. I estimate they will add another $10.06 to the price. Your total montly bill will be about $90.06 per month.

Overall, I do not recommend the Verizon Business Unlimited Plus 2.0 plan. It is too expensive for the features and data you get.

It is one of the premier telecommunications providers in the industry, having won numerous awards, including 31 consecutive wins for network quality from J.D. Power.

In addition to calling and texting, Verizon Wireless lets you create a hotspot using high-speed data, ensuring you and others can connect to the internet even with poor Wi-Fi.

Despite Verizon’s widespread popularity and reliability, its business phone system will not be the best fit for every company.

Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited Is Best For:

• Strictly voice communication: Unlike many VoIP services providing voice, chat, video conferencing and internet fax capabilities as part of an all-in-one platform, Verizon Wireless’ business phone system is best suited for those who anticipate only needing reliable calling and texting capabilities.
• Reliable phone service: Because Verizon has such a wide range of coverage across North America, it is ideal for ensuring you are always reachable and that you can easily make and receive calls.
• Mobile hotspots: The ability to turn your phone into a hotspot ensures that you and others can remain online during a Wi-Fi outage.
• Avoiding spam calls: Thanks to the call filtering feature, you can better conduct business and answer important calls without worrying about constant spam or robocalls and scam attempts.

Verizon Wireless’ mobile hotspot is a welcome feature for those who want to ensure constant internet connection for other devices or their co-workers. Still, at a time when rival communication services routinely offer multiple streams of collaboration at far lower prices, it may appear somewhat limiting by comparison.

Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited Is Not Recommended For: 

• Those operating on a tight budget: Though you could get a discount when you add so many lines, a single line costs $70 per month; it gets discounted to $65 per month with autopay. As such, it can be an expensive option for sole proprietors or small businesses compared to other communication services.
• Individuals or small teams: Though service is available starting with a single line, discounts begin once you purchase at least two lines. At this point, the pricing makes it such that a small company should seek a more cost-friendly alternative.
• All-in-One or UCaaS-like service: Some companies want to make calls, host video conferences or collaborate in chat, all through the same service provider. While Verizon is reliable for calling and texting, it is limited compared to services such as RingCentral or Zoom , which offer multiple communication streams.

If you are a business solely searching for excellent call, text and data support, then Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited may be an ideal solution for you. Should you need more than voice and text, it is best to consider other service options.

Verizon’s award-winning reliability is perhaps one primary reason so many customers rely on and remain with the service. Its 5G LTE ensures high-quality calls are made and received with ease, and even where 5G is not available, its 4G LTE network means that you should hardly ever find yourself dealing with poor quality or dropped calls.

Unfortunately, another factor setting Verizon apart is that its plans are among the most expensive, and that may often be due to the virtual monopoly it enjoys in some locations. If you want the ability to make calls through a professional business phone system, there are far more affordable options available. With a VoIP service provider , you may not pay as much or be impacted by a potential lack of competing telecommunication service providers.

There are a few significant features that customers should consider before signing up with a business phone service provider. These items are often the deciding factor in whether your investment will represent good value for your purchase.

Verizon Wireless offers devices that are compatible with its service. This includes a range of smartphones, tablets, laptops and hotspot hardware, all of which may be purchased directly through the website. You also have the option of signing up for Tablet Start and Tablet Pro for plan options that combine Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited with a device of your choice.

International Calling

Much of Verizon Wireless’ service is concentrated in North America—specifically, the continental United States. However, it is still possible to make or receive calls through your Verizon service, even when traveling internationally, but you may incur additional fees or run into limitations while abroad. One way to avoid this issue is to use TravelPass when out of the country.

The TravelPass costs $10 per line per day as an add-on service, or you can get it as part of either the Business Unlimited Plus or Business Unlimited Pro plans. When included with your service plans, you receive between two and four days worth of unlimited calling and text. You also get 2GB of high-speed data, which converts to lower-speed data after you exceed the allotment.

TravelPass is available in over 210 countries, though your device must be 4G or 5G capable. If unused, your TravelPass days will not roll over to the next month.

When you sign up for either Business Unlimited Plus or Pro, you get access to advanced security tools. Plan perks include anti-phishing support, Wi-Fi network protections, management and controls across multiple devices and dedicated chat-based personnel. Please note this feature usually costs an additional $5 per month, but the cost may be offset by a $5 credit with a qualifying plan. The added security is a necessity for many companies desiring data protection.

There are additional security features that may be purchased separately. For instance, Verizon Cypher protects calls made on commercial smartphones, even when making calls across differing phone networks. Contact Verizon’s sales team for a complete list of premium security add-ons available to businesses.

Third-Party Integrations

Because of the nature of this service, it is not designed for integrations with popular apps, such as Salesforce , Slack or HubSpot . This is something you are more likely to get with a unified communications as a service (UCaaS) provider ; if you want a more robust collaboration and calling experience paired with third-party integrations, there are better choices than Verizon Wireless.

Verizon Wireless is often an easy service to use, with the ability to activate your phone relatively quickly. The only thing to be mindful of is if you attempt to sign up for service with an older flip phone or another device that is not up to date. In that case, you would likely need help from customer support, as it may be too challenging to get the equipment to work on your own.

Verizon Wireless offers extremely high-definition audio quality, which has only improved with its 5G LTE availability. From our expert’s experience, calls made or received tend to have sharp, clear audio; we could hear the caller easily and be heard and understood. There were no odd sounds or echoes.

Business Unlimited Start

Verizon’s standard Business Unlimited plan supports talk, text and data for customers across the United States. Unlimited calling and text messaging are available in both Mexico and Canada. Please note that if the percentage is greater than 50% each month, services in those countries could either get removed or limited.

Customers also get 5GB of 5G or 4G LTE mobile hotspot data; if you exceed your monthly allotment, data quality drops to lower speeds (600 Kbps) for the remainder of the month. This plan provides a call filter option to help you cut back on spam calls. As for video streaming quality, Business Unlimited Start supports 480p high definition, which is remarkably lower than the quality available at higher service tiers.

If you need a good quality calling plan for reliable service throughout North America, Unlimited Start does work. However, it is notably limited compared to other pricing plans and, for the cost, needs to represent better value for the money. You could increase your per-line savings substantially by getting at least five lines and utilizing autopay; if you are willing, you are better off upgrading and getting additional features.

Business Unlimited Plus

The Unlimited Plus plan has everything in Start while adding a few key features. For instance, you get 5G Ultra Wideband, which provides the fastest possible network experience, though you must have a device capable of 5G. You also get 100GB of premium network access per month and 100GB of premium hotspot data.

Additionally, this tier adds Call Filter Plus, which improves on standard call filtering by including a caller ID feature, spam look-up risk meter and a personal block feature that removes callers by category. This plan has a monthly TravelPass, giving users two days per month of international calling and texting with 2GB of data. Customers also see their streaming quality increase to 4K HD and enjoy enhanced security through Business Mobile Secure.

Altogether, Business Unlimited Plus offers a better range of service features that make it a much better value for money than Start and probably the better investment, especially after applying various plan discounts to bring down the overall cost.

Business Unlimited Pro

Verizon’s Business Unlimited Pro plan improves on Start and Plus by providing unlimited premium network access all month long and 200GB of mobile hotspot data. TravelPass is increased to the equivalent of four days per month, and customers get 50% off on the Pro Tablet plan. Though this highest tier has the most going for it, its price per line might not make it worth the investment compared to the Plus plan.

When we reached out to customer support with questions, we were able to connect with a member of the team without too long of a wait. The agent who answered our call was professional, helpful and able to guide us through activating our service and ensuring that everything was in working order.

Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited vs. Grasshopper

Verizon’s business phone service relies on a more traditional telecommunications system to ensure high-quality calling and texting. At the same time, Grasshopper is a virtual phone system that operates using an existing phone service. Verizon customers can rely on up to 5G LTE for data, making it possible to use the internet without a traditional connection. As Grasshopper is a virtual service needing an existing phone line, you must add it to a current phone service.

If you went with a more affordable phone service provider than Verizon, it might be possible to pay as little as $14 per month. Verizon Wireless phones and services are very reliable, and we were able to make and receive calls and text messages easily to people located across the country. Even when calling internationally, we found few issues when using the service.

That said, while Verizon Wireless Business Unlimited represents reliable traditional phone communication, businesses should strongly consider value for money and the availability of more comprehensive collaboration tools. For instance, some competing service providers provide video conferencing and voice and text messaging. One can collaborate in chat rooms in real time and share screens and files.

While Verizon Wireless works as a straightforward phone solution, if your company needs a wide range of channels for communication and collaboration, consider an alternative service that can give you more ways to stay in touch with customers and peers alike.

Verizon’s new business unlimited plans offer progressive savings and enhanced features.

From double the mobile hotspot data to increased international coverage, new Business Unlimited plans deliver what customers asked for

NEW YORK, July 13, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Verizon Business today unveiled its new Business Unlimited plans, a three-tier structure that provides value for businesses of all sizes: Start 5G ($30/line/month with 5 lines and more), Plus 5G ($40/line/month with 5+ lines), and Pro 5G ($45/line/month with 5+ lines).

Following exhaustive customer research, Verizon Business developed new plans that catered to expressed customer needs, including more hotspot data, security, and more international value. Plan features include the following:

Start 5G : Unlimited 4G LTE/5G Nationwide, and Verizon Call Filter, a feature that screens for unwanted calls

Plus 5G : double the mobile hotspot data (now 100 GB), Unlimited 5G Ultra Wideband, streaming at 1080p, Verizon Call Filter, and TravelPass (2 days per month: $20 monthly savings vs. purchasing them separately), which offers unlimited talk, text and data in 210+ countries and destinations

Pro 5G : double the mobile hotspot data (now 200 GB), Unlimited 5G Ultra Wideband, streaming at 1080p, Verizon Call Filter, TravelPass (4 days per month: $40 monthly savings vs. purchasing them separately), Business Mobile Secure Bundle, and 50% off a Business Unlimited Tablet Pro plan

“Our new plans are about more than savings, they’re about value,” said Iris Meijer, Chief Marketing Officer, Verizon Business. “We conducted extensive customer research to get a complete picture of what customers valued the most in their plans and what they wanted added. We built our new plans based on that feedback, and included the features that made the biggest impact for our customers at price points that made sense for businesses of all sizes.”

Each plan offers progressive savings, with every additional smartphone line decreasing in cost by $5-15, reaching the greatest savings at the 5-line mark: $30, $40, and $45, respectively (auto-pay/paper-free billing discount also included). Additionally, Verizon Business is currently running a limited-time BYOD (bring your own device) promotion, in which customers can save $600 over 24 months by activating a Business Unlimited Plus 5G or Unlimited Pro 5G plan when they bring their existing number and smartphone.

Business Unlimited 5G customers have access to 5G coverage and the leading performance of Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband (UW), along with the powerful security bundle, Business Mobile Secure.

Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network is available to more than 200 million people. 5G and 5G UW are available as part of select Business Unlimited 5G plans.

I love gaming. I'm a big nerd. I grew up playing video games.

🗼 Where have you traveled?

I went to Japan a few years ago with some friends. It was a dream of mine to go. It's so nerdy, but I got to go to Tokyo and see a gaming expo and the technology first-hand. It was like exploring where my childhood came from!

📽️ What’s your favorite movie?

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” because the main character, Miles Morales, is a biracial, Black and Latino character. Seeing someone who has Puerto Rican roots like me … just seeing that representation of my culture is phenomenal.

😯What has surprised you most during your nine years at Verizon?

The opportunities. In my previous role in the FiOS CSSC, I had a narrow outlook in terms of career trajectory. But now in social media, it's just amazing how broad the opportunities are.

🫶 Do you volunteer?

I began volunteering in I-CAN , which helps to bridge previously incarcerated individuals back into society. I’m also a member of PRISM , the LGBTQ+ employee resource group, and SOMOS , an ERG for those with a Latin American heritage.
