What is a Wedding Thank You Speech?

wedding thank you speech sample singapore

A wedding speech is a formal address given by a member of the wedding party, typically the best man, maid of honor, father of the bride, or the groom, or even the couple themselves during a wedding reception. The speech is usually given after the meal, and is an opportunity for the speaker to express congratulations and well wishes to the newlyweds, share memories and anecdotes about the couple, and offer advice for their future together. A wedding speech can also include a toast to the couple, wishing them happiness and love in their marriage. The speeches are usually given in front of all the guests who have attended the wedding ceremony and reception.

Why write a Wedding Speech?

There are several reasons why a couple in Singapore might choose to write and deliver a wedding speech:

To express gratitude: A wedding speech is an opportunity for the couple to express their gratitude to their families, friends, and guests for their love and support, and for helping to make their special day possible.

To share their love story: A wedding speech is a chance for the couple to share their love story with their guests, highlighting how they met, fell in love, and what makes their relationship special.

To offer advice and well wishes: A wedding speech can also be a chance for the couple to offer advice and well wishes to their guests, particularly to other couples or newlyweds in attendance.

To create a memorable moment: A wedding speech can be an emotional and memorable moment for the couple, as well as for their guests, and it can help to create a sense of intimacy and connection between the couple and their guests.

To honor the cultural context: Singapore is a multicultural country and many Singaporean weddings are a blend of Chinese, Malay, and Indian cultures, so it's important to be mindful of any cultural sensitivities or customs when giving a wedding speech.

To show appreciation: A wedding speech can be a way for the couple to show appreciation and thanks to their guests for being a part of this special day.

In summary, a wedding speech in Singapore is a way for the couple to express their gratitude, love, and appreciation for their guests and for the people who have helped make their wedding day possible. It can also be an emotional and memorable moment for the couple and their guests, and it can help to create a sense of intimacy and connection between the couple and their guests.

Steps to write a great Wedding Speech in Singapore (As the Bride or Groom)

Writing a wedding speech as a bride or groom can be a bit different than the traditional speeches given by the groom or members of the wedding party. Here are some tips on how to write a wedding speech as a bride:

Start by expressing your gratitude: Begin your speech by thanking everyone who has helped make your special day possible. Thank your parents, your bridesmaids, your groom/bride, and all of the guests for being there to celebrate your love.

Share your love story: Tell your guests about how you and your bride/groom met, how you fell in love, and what makes your relationship special. Share some anecdotes and memories that you have of your time together.

Express your emotions: Let your guests know how you feel on your wedding day. Share your excitement, your joy, and your happiness. Let them know that this day is one of the most important days of your life.

Address your bride/groom: Take a moment to express your love and gratitude to your bride/groom. Tell him how much he means to you and what you look forward to in your future together.

End with a toast: Raise your glass and invite your guests to join you in a toast to the happy couple.

It's important to keep your speech short and sweet, practice it before the big day, and speak from the heart. Remember to personalize it and make it reflect your relationship and your personality. Also, consider the cultural context of the wedding, the couple's preference and comfort level.

Here is a template for a wedding speech as a bride or groom:

Introduction: "Good evening everyone, my name is [Name] and I am [bride or groom]. I am overwhelmed with happiness to be standing here today, surrounded by the people I love most, to marry the love of my life."

Gratitude: "I would like to start by expressing my deepest gratitude to everyone who has helped make this day possible. A special thanks to my parents [name], my [bridesmaids/groomsmen], and all of our guests for being here to celebrate our love."

Love story: "I would like to share our love story with you, [insert how you met, fell in love, and what makes your relationship special]. [Insert anecdotes and memories that you have of your time together]."

Emotions: "As I stand here today, I can't help but feel overwhelmed with emotion. [Insert how you feel on your wedding day, your excitement, your joy, and your happiness]."

Address to the partner: "I would like to take a moment to address my [partner's name]. [Insert your love and gratitude to your partner, and what you look forward to in your future together]."

Toast: "Please raise your glasses and join me in a toast. May our love continue to grow stronger with each passing day. To my partner, my best friend, my love, [partner's name]"

To write a wedding speech in Singapore, consider the following tips:

Begin by introducing yourself and your relationship to the couple.

Share some anecdotes or memories of the couple that highlight their relationship and personalities.

Express your congratulations and best wishes to the couple on their special day.

Offer advice or words of wisdom for the couple as they start their new life together.

End with a toast to the couple and their future happiness.

When writing a wedding speech, it's important to include several key people in your speech . The following are some people that you may want to consider mentioning in your speech:

The bride and groom: Of course, the main focus of the speech should be on the newlyweds. Share your congratulations and well wishes for their future together.

The parents of the bride and groom: It's traditional to thank the parents of the couple for their love and support, and for helping to make the wedding day possible.

The wedding party: If you are a member of the wedding party, such as the best man or maid of honor, you may want to thank your fellow bridesmaids and groomsmen for their support and friendship.

Other important people in the couple's life: This could include grandparents, siblings, or close friends who have played an important role in the couple's relationship.

The guests: Thank the guests for coming to celebrate the couple's special day.

It is also important to keep in mind the cultural context of Singapore when giving a wedding speech. Many Singaporean weddings are a blend of Chinese, Malay, and Indian cultures, so it's important to be mindful of any cultural sensitivities or customs when giving your speech.

Also make sure you are familiar with the couple's preference and comfort level as some couple prefer more formal and some more casual speech.

Here is a template for a thank you wedding speech in Singapore:

Introduction: "Good evening everyone, my name is [Name] and I am [relationship to the couple]. I am honored to be here today to celebrate the love and union of [bride and groom's names]."

Congratulations and well wishes: "On behalf of [bride and groom's names], I would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the newlyweds. May your love continue to grow stronger with each passing day."

Memories and anecdotes: "I have had the privilege of knowing [bride and groom's names] for [length of time] and I have many fond memories of them together. I remember when [insert a personal anecdote or memory of the couple]. It is clear to see the love they have for each other."

Advice or words of wisdom: "As the couple begins their new life together, I would like to offer a few words of wisdom. [Insert advice or words of wisdom for the couple]."

Toast: "Please raise your glasses and join me in a toast to the happy couple. May your marriage be filled with love, laughter, and happiness. To [bride and groom's names]!"

It's important to keep in mind that this is a template and you should personalize it accordingly and make sure it fits your relationship with the couple, their culture and preferences.

These examples can also be adopted by couples with a little tweak. Hence, you can use these ideas as inspiration to write yours or adopt and personalize them.

Our closest family and friends, we would like to greet you on our special day and thank you for being here. Each of you has played a pivotal role in our love story, so your presence makes this day even more special. We have spent the last 10 months planning our wedding and we couldn’t have done it without your help. This is very valuable for us! Despite some moments that today didn’t go 100% as we planned, for example, we forgot our vows at home and tried to remember them on the go (which probably made the moment even more emotional for us), we are glad that everything turned out so great! Raise your glass and we’ll raise a toast to each and every one of you here today.
I want to thank everyone for being with us today. Many of you have come a long way to get involved and we thank you for your time and effort. As we embark on this next chapter of our lives, we are so grateful that we have your love and support. We would like to thanks our parents for their continued support and encouragement. Each of you did everything in your power to ensure that our wedding day went exactly as we imagined. To our guests: our day would not be complete without you. Thank you very much for coming. Cheers!
My new husband and I would like to welcome all of you and thank you for sharing this special occasion with us. We especially want to thank our parents. To my mom and dad, who not only helped plan my dream wedding, but also made sure I felt nothing but joy and love growing up. Our dear guests! This day wouldn’t be so enjoyable if you weren’t here to celebrate with us. My dear husband, you made me the happiest woman in the world and I am very grateful to you for this. You helped make all my dreams come true, including this wedding – after all, I started planning it when I was only 8. And now I understand that everything turned out exactly the way I imagined! So many wonderful people gathered at our wedding – thank you all for being with us today!
Today my family has grown larger and not only my new husband entered it, but also his parents and siblings. I am so happy that you are now part of my family! Thank you for everything! Mother and father! You supported me all my life and showed by your example what a real family should be! You have no idea how much I love you and how grateful I am for everything! Thanks to you, today I feel exactly as I always dreamed of! Thank you for making this day the way I wanted it to be! My dear husband, I promise to do everything in my power to make our world a happy one–because I know you will, too! You are the kindest and most powerful person I have ever known! I also want to say thank you to all our guests who are here today to share this wonderful day with us – I know many of you come from other countries and have come a very long way – this is incredibly valuable and means a lot to both of us! I propose to raise a glass to all of you, to all of my beloved people. You make me happy and this day is so fantastic thanks to you!

Thank You Speech For Wedding: Tips And Recommendations

Be Emotional

Add some humor.

Lighten up the atmosphere with some humor so that the guests would laugh a bit. You can incorporate a very short story of not more than one minute. A punchy one-liner with enough humor to liven the audience is also perfect. Make sure your story is relevant to the wedding day and your one-liner is easy to understand without explanation. Also, avoid dark humor or vulgar words.

Prepare In Advance

We always advise that you write your speech in advance, memorize, edit and keep it safe. And if possible, say your speech without a paper but keep it organized. However, you must also incorporate some elements of the wedding so that the speech becomes personalized and relevant in real-time. Mention names, situations, times, and elements specific to your wedding during your speech.

Be Relaxed And Calm

It can be a couple’s speech.

This is a bride speech, but of course, you call your spouse to the stage in the middle of your speech and the both of you can continue. And even if he doesn’t come up to join you, use the word “we” as you speak to represent both of you. The unison between both of you is what the guests should see as you start your journey forever.

Welcome Guests

To write the perfect wedding thank you speech sample, you must follow an outline that starts with welcoming the guests. Remind them that you appreciate the sacrifice of their presence at your event today. Don’t mention any names as all guests are equally important. Appreciate them for their good wishes, the gifts, and everything they’ve done to make the day successful.

Describe Your Feelings

Say some words about specific people.

Don’t fail to mention specific people who have greatly impacted your life and the day. If you have a great relationship with your parents, talk about their contribution. Remind them that your spouse is the center of your day. Talk about his parents too and that friend who went above and beyond to make things happen. Appreciate them in your speech and they’ll feel seen and important.

Say Some Words Of Gratitude To All The Guests

Finish your speech by telling them where to get all the food and booze if it’s a buffet. Or you can tell them to relax and enjoy themselves as the refreshments go round. Make announcements inviting them to the after-party if it’s open to all. Also, wish them journey mercies back to their hotels and homes. Then sign off with a toast and your new name to make everyone smile.

What Not To Say In Your Speech At Wedding

thank you wedding speech bride and groom

chelseawhitephotog via Instagram

Don’t Add Some Bad Memories

For your wedding reception thank you speech, you must sieve and censor your words. Avoid including anything that brings up bad memories in your speech, even if it’s said in good faith. Desist from telling guests how your parents hated your spouse at first, or how you stuck by your spouse through his infidelity until he chose you. The guests really don’t want to know about your internal problems.

Do Not Cry Too Much

The truth is that your wedding event isn’t a funeral and you could get the guests worried by crying too much. So no matter how emotional you are, be in control. Let the excitement you feel be contagious and let the guests see your joy radiating. A few tears here and there, and that’s enough.

Do Not Joke Too Much

Another thing to note is that your wedding isn’t a circus or comedy show. So while it’s okay to add some humor and fun to your speech, don’t go overboard. It’s easy to lose the essence of your speech by making lots of jokes, especially those in bad taste. Moderation is key and a joke is one too many. Keep it as subtle as possible.

Do Not Make It Too Long And Boring

Your guests came to the party, to have fun, mix up, celebrate with you and eat to their hearts fill. So don’t over-stretch the timing of your speech, making it long and boring. The guests would lose interest and you’d be there rambling. Hit your most important points within the first one minute and wrap them up as quickly as possible.

What do you say in a thank you speech for a wedding?

Express gratitude for guests’ presence and contributions. Acknowledge their role in making the day special. Mention specific ways they’ve added joy. End with heartfelt thanks for sharing in the celebration.

What do you say in a wedding thank you?

Begin with appreciation for attendance and well-wishes. Express gratitude for gifts, specifying the thoughtful gestures. Convey excitement about shared memories and the start of a new chapter together.

How do you thank everyone at a wedding?

Circulate and personally thank guests for being part of the celebration. Acknowledge their efforts and offer genuine gratitude. Be attentive, approachable, and make everyone feel appreciated for contributing to the joyous occasion.

Guide to Thank You Speech for Weddings

Table of Contents

Introduction

, Guide to Thank You Speech for Weddings

Giving a wedding thank you speech at your wedding at your wedding venue is important to show your appreciation towards your family and friends. It is also a common tradition for the bride and groom to take turns nearing the end of the evening to raise their champagne glasses to give their individual speeches. In Singapore where most are educated under the bilingualism education policy, couples may also choose to each undertake a language to cater to different wedding guests. There’s no order to whether the bride or groom should give their speech first.

Since they are such a staple at weddings, it is also important to make your speech personalised and distinct instead of having a generalised one. While it’s common to be thanking your parents for their upbringing and your guests for attending your wedding, having an unoriginal speech can come across as dull and insincere. A bad example would be something like this.

“Thank you to my parents for bringing me up to the person I am today. I want to thank everyone for making time to attend our wedding.”

Although you have good intentions behind your speech, your heartfelt appreciation may not come through when it sounds like every other thank you speech. Your wedding speech should be deeply personal and distinct to your wedding and the people in your life.

Wedding speeches can be daunting especially for those terrified or unfamiliar with public speaking. However, with this guide, you can hopefully prepare yourself better for your big day!

What to include in your wedding speech

Share memorable anecdotes / stories.

Stories and personal anecdotes are great ways to get your guests to listen. A memorable story can also be a funny or heartwarming one depending on the vibe you’re going for. It can be about how you met, how you realised they were the right one for you or even wacky incidents throughout your relationship. Every couple has been through different life situations and this is a great way to give all your guests a sneak peak into your distinct love story!

Thank your loved ones

To put together a wedding, many people also play a part to make sure your big day goes through smoothly. From your parents, parents-in-law, bridesmaids and groomsmen , they have stood by your sides throughout the whole hectic journey. They are also the people who have been through with you across different periods of your life. It would be a good chance to thank each and everyone of them. However, you should not just start rambling all of their names. Thank the special ones that you feel strongly for and talk about the impact they had on you.

For example, “Thanks to my brother Brian who never forgets my share when he’s ordering food delivery.” “Thanks to my best friend Lucy who has cried together with me after every heartbreak” If you are thanking your grandparents who only understand certain dialects, taking the effort to craft a few lines out specially for them will be heartwarming. By adding a personal touch, it can add a degree of sentiment and nostalgia to your speech. As a whole, also remember to show your appreciation to all your guests for taking time off their schedule to attend your wedding celebration.

Other than your close families and friends, wedding vendors and planners have also been instrumental in making your wedding day happen. As there would be a lower emotional connection with them compared to your other guests, your thank you speech to them can be brief.

While thanking your guests, you should also not forget your partner standing right beside you during your speech. Your thank you speech to your spouse can come together with the personal anecdotes or stories you’re sharing.

Tell a joke

A thank you speech can feel boring if it’s just full of emotional stories. Including jokes can help lighten the mood up. When your guests are reacting to your speech, it can also loosen up your tension and carry on with your speech more calmly.

You can share snippets of dumb and funny situations that happened throughout your relationship. But you should also be careful to avoid raunchy inside jokes. Your wedding guests would probably comprise people of all ages from babies to elders. It can be inappropriate and uncomfortable for your guests to listen to such jokes. Inside jokes can also make your guests feel alienated so it’s crucial to explain and give the full context.

Use informal language

Avoid using stiff and formal language in your speech. You’re not giving a presentation in a meeting to your employers or clients. Instead, you should keep your speech audience-friendly by using informal language. Also, remember to pause at certain intervals to allow breathing space and for your guests to digest what you’ve said and react accordingly.

It also doesn’t have to have bombastic and impressive vocabulary. What needs to be conveyed is your sincere feelings. When you put your heart into your speech, your words should come out smoothly.

Finish with a toast

Having a strong and punchy end can add memorability to your speech. You can choose to use a quote that resonates or represents your love story. Otherwise, you can also mention your hopes and aspirations for your married life journey with your spouse ahead.

To signify the end of your speech, end it off with a toast! You can do so with a simple request for your guests to raise their glasses and join you in a toast to your spouse or marriage ahead.

For the Couple:

  • Thank your guests and your wedding staff
  • Mention every group of guests you have invited, such as your colleagues, your secondary/JC/Poly/University friends. Share a small story of every group and how much they mean to you.
  • Thank your bridesmaids and groomsmen for helping you with the wedding planning, and mention how much you cherish this friendship with them.
  • Thank your parents for bringing you up and for all the efforts they have poured into your life.
  • Mention your partner’s parents and thank them for welcoming you into the family.
  • Most importantly, tell your partner how you feel about him/her. Share about how happy you are to be able to marry him/her, how he/she makes you feel, the fond memories you had together, the things you love about him/her etc.
  • To end off, you can once again thank your guests and ask them to enjoy the rest of the celebration.

Sample Speech:

“Thank you all of you for making the time and effort to come for (name of partner) and I’s wedding, and it really means a lot to us to have you all down to celebrate this special day with us. We would also like to shout out to all the staff that made this celebration possible, to the banquet staff, wedding coordinator, the live band, you all have been super awesome tonight.

To my colleagues, thank you for always being so accommodative and patient with me. Life at work doesn’t feel like work with you all, and I’m extremely thankful for you guys especially leading up to my wedding day, constantly offering your help and advice.

To my secondary school friends at the back, just want to say that I’m super grateful to have this friendship in my life. Growing up, you guys have constantly been so supportive and I can always count on you all to have my back covered.

To my daddy and mummy, thank you for all your efforts to raise me up. I know I wasn’t the easiest child to raise and always making trouble for you guys, but thank you for your unfailing love for me.

And to my new dad and mum, thank you for being so nice and welcoming to me, always making me feel at home with you guys. Thank you for raising ( name of partner) so well, to be such a dependable and sweet guy.

Lastly, to my dearest husband/wife, I never knew that the dorky guy I met at the club 6 years ago would be the very same man that I am saying I-Do to. The very first time I met you, I was like ‘oh gosh, this guy is weird’. But as we started talking and subsequently meeting up with our group of friends and then meeting up together one-on-one, I started noticing the inner humour in you and we clicked with each other. We are pretty different in our personality, but we complement each other. You always have a way to brighten up my mood whenever I am down, and I know that you will always be there for me. I am excited for our new journey together as husband and wife.”

Preparation for the Wedding

After you have your full draft of your speech ready, it’s time to practise delivering it by reading it out aloud. By doing so, you can double check on your speech and ensure there are no awkward sentence structures. For those who are not familiar with public speaking, it’s also a good way to loosen your nerves when you get used to hearing your own voice.

During the soundcheck, you should also try speaking into the microphone to get used to the PA system. This helps you to gage how loud and how near you need to be to the microphone.

Remember that ‘Practice makes perfect.’ The more you practise your speech, the more confident and prepared you will be to ensure you don’t stumble on your actual day!

Eye contact

You can also choose to practise your speech in front of a small audience like your bridesmaids or partner. They can also help to point out areas you can improve on that you might not notice.

Try to have eye contact with the ones you’re addressing certain portions of your speech to. It is said that ‘eyes are windows to the soul’. While maintaining eye contact, it helps to deliver your sincerity and heartfelt emotions to your guests. For those who still prefer to keep the contents of your speech private until the big day, practising in front of a mirror and doing so while standing can be an alternative.

You can highlight the main points on your speech and remember them instead of memorising the whole speech like a script. During your speech, occasionally glancing at your notes would be fine.

Length of speech

Although having the details help enhance the magic in your speech, it is important that you don’t tell a grandmother story. Your speech should be kept short and sweet. While practising, it’s advisable to record it down. It allows you to check how much time you’re spending on it and also to look out for weird portions you might have missed. Five minutes would be a good enough time.

Make multiple copies

With so much going on during your wedding, it would add on to your stress if you were to lose your copy of your speech. To prevent that from happening, you can make multiple copies and entrust one copy each to your maid of honour, spouse or bridesmaids for safekeeping. The chance of all of the copies being lost would be relatively low.

For the Father of the Bride Speech:

  • You can start off by thanking the guests for coming to the celebration and appreciate the staff for their hard work to put together the wedding.
  • Let your daughter know how proud you are of her
  • Share a fond memory of the bride when she was growing up
  • Welcome your son-in-law into the family and tell him how

“First of all, I just want to thank all the guests who have made time to come to my daughter’s wedding. I really appreciate each of you to be able to witness and celebrate such a joyous occasion together. I also want to thank all the banquet staff, the live band, the wedding coordinator and those who made all these possible, you guys are so amazing and we all really enjoyed ourselves.

This day is such a special day for me. I can still remember the very day I first hold ____ in my arms, and today I am walking her down the aisle. _____, I am so proud of you and you will always be my daddy’s girl. Thank you for growing up to be such a kindhearted and sweet girl yet independent and strong woman. You have always brought so much joy and laughter to the family with your quirky and lively personality.

To (name of groom) , I am so glad to have you as my son-in-law and we warmly welcome you into our family. The very first time I met you, I knew that my daughter is in good hands. I saw the way you look at _____, the way you take care of her and the way you smile at what she says. Rather than losing a daughter today, I feel like I have gained another son instead.

Lastly, a piece of advice from an old wise man, marriage isn’t always smooth sailing. Communication and spending quality time with one another is the key to a long lasting marriage.”

For the Best Man / Bride of Honour:

  • Introduce your name and how your relationship is with the couple. You can also share how both of you got to know each other.
  • Share some qualities of the couple
  • Share some memories/stories you have with the couple. It can be a funny story or an unforgettable memory, but it must link to a point, such as elaborating a characteristic.
  • Praise how compatible the couple is, and how you have seen them change for the better.
  • You can end the speech with some wishes and blessings for the couple

“ Hi everybody, hope all of you are enjoying the dinner celebration so far. My name is ____, and I am the Best Man for (name of groom) today. (name of groom) and I have known each other for 12 years since secondary school, in the same CCA, same JC and even enlisting in the army together. We have been through thick and thin, and I am just so grateful to always have (name of groom) supporting me. I am so happy that you’ve met the love of your life, and really celebrate this joyous day with you.

(name of groom) is always known to be the jokester of our gang, constantly pranking people and doing all those silly things. I remember there was once in secondary school, (share a funny story about the groom). Yet, (name of groom) also has his serious side and we can always depend on him whenever we need help. (share a touching story of the groom).

To (name of bride) , when (name of groom) first mentioned you and told me things about you, I knew that he was head over heels for you. You have brought so much joy into his life, and I am very happy that he has met you.

To end off, I would like to present a toast to (name of bride) and (name of groom) , wishing them everlasting happiness and laughter in their marriage.”

Alternatives

Not good with words? Not everyone is good at expressing their thoughts and emotions into words, but there are still some other ways that you can convey your message to the couple and the guests.

Poems don’t need flamboyant words but yet it is romantic and can convey much more emotions through it. There are many poems online for wedding occasions, and you can take some inspiration from these samples and add some personal touch to it.

1. First of all, Kristine and I express our heartfelt gratitude for being with us on our special day. We feel so lucky and grateful to see all of you here sharing the love.

We want to give a special mention to Lulu, Ciara, Sonya, and Genevieve, our lovely bridesmaids, for the awesome job of planning everything and being a support system for Kristine. Today has been nothing but perfect, and most of that is thanks to them. We also want to thank our parents, Jim and Brenda, Florence and William, for all the guidance and advice that we’ve gotten. Thank you for welcoming us into your respective families and helping us be ready for the next chapter of our life.

We hope to see you eating your hearts out at dinner and then dancing the night away! Again, thank you all so much for being here. Let’s get this party started!

2. To all our close friends, our relatives, and our diligent vendors, thank you very much for being here and making this wonderful day possible! Like we’ve said in our invitation , your presence is the greatest gift we can receive.

We want to extend our gratitude to the entire wedding party for everything that you’ve done for us — helping with the planning of our wedding, contributing to the wedding budget , and being a solid support system for both of us. We wouldn’t be who and where we are today without you guys.

We encourage you all to make the most out of tonight! Nothing will make us happier than seeing you enjoy and celebrate with us. Before we continue the party, let’s raise our glass and make a toast to love, friendship, and happiness!

3. Thank you all for taking the time and making the trip to be with us here today in Venice. It has always been our dream to have a destination wedding in Italy , and so it still feels surreal to be surrounded by everyone we love on one of our most special days.

We want to give a huge shout-out to our entire wedding party and our wedding planner, Tiffany! You saved us a lot of headaches by helping with all the paperwork and nitty-gritty details of planning. We also want to thank our parents Sofia and Dan, Taylor and Tom, for all the love and support.

As my dear husband Johnny — gosh, it feels so great to say it! — always says, go crazy, folks! There’s an open bar to your right, and the dance floor is all yours!

4. Hi, all! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for being here with us at our wedding. Your presence, support, and love mean so much more than we are able to put into words.

Firstly, we want to thank the staff of Blue Corals Events Place for the amazing, hands-on service. We also want to give a shout-out to Rina, our wedding coordinator, and Sheila and her team of decorators for elevating this already beautiful space. To Deejay, our photographer, David, our videographer, and the Orange Blossom Catering Services, thank you very much for your invaluable service. Everyone, let’s give all of them a round of applause!

We also want to thank our friends from high school and university for being here today despite your busy schedules. Without your help, we literally would not have been together — it must’ve been infuriating to constantly listen to us yearn for each other, eh?

To our families, who traveled all the way from Michigan and Florida, thank you for being so supportive and loving. Thank you for welcoming both of us with open hearts and thank you for guiding us tirelessly. We love you so much.

To our awesome wedding party, you guys are a lifesaver! We are so grateful that you guys have the organizational skills we clearly do not have. From our pre-wedding parties down to the last detail of this reception, every aspect of our dream wedding came true because of you.

We hope that everyone has a blast tonight! I am excited to see you all dance your hearts out tonight! Cheers!

5. Before I go all emotional, I just want to say thank you to all of you who made it here to our wedding. Kenny and I are overwhelmed with love and support in the best way possible.

Growing up, I’ve always had an idea of what my wedding will look like and to whom I will be married. My parents, even after 30 years of marriage, are still deeply in love, and this is just one of the reasons why I look up to them and their relationship. Since my teenage years, I’ve known that this is the kind of love I want.

When I first met Kenny in high school, I was this shy and introverted girl. I knew I had a crush on him right then, and my best friends — shout-out to Maria, Gemma, and Coraline, now my bridesmaids — would always encourage me to ask him out. We were all surprised when Kenny approached us during lunch to ask me out first; I still remember screaming to my besties about it for days on the phone.

Meeting my in-laws for the first time was honestly a bit intimidating. Of course I was intimidated — it was my first relationship! I wanted to impress them. Over time, as I got to know them more and more, I came to admire them because, like my parents, they love each other so deeply it shines through in everything they do.

Standing here in front of all of you today, I promise to cultivate and nurture that same kind of love. The kind of love that lasts and endures a lifetime.

Thank you to Anna and Stu, my parents, and Bella and Neil, my in-laws, for all the love and support over the years. Huge thanks to my bridesmaids for always being there for me, especially during the times I stressed over which shade of white would be best for my dress. I also want to give a huge shout-out to the lovely vendors with us today: Eric, Jay, Linda, Karen, and Gary. And lastly, thank you, Kenny, the love of my life, for giving me the honor and privilege to love you.

Have a great night, everyone! The bar is open all night, and there’s a photo booth just by the entrance. Cheers!

6. Hi, everyone! First things first, thank you all for coming and sharing the love with us tonight. I know that some of you had to travel really far; words cannot describe how grateful and honored we are to have you here.

We want to thank our friends and colleagues. We’ve known some of you since middle school, and it’s truly amazing that we still have just as much fun now even though we’re already adults. Or so our parents say. Anyway, thank you for all the support and assurance, especially leading up to the wedding when we needed it the most.

We also want to thank our parents, Lydia and Mike, and Josh and Celia, for raising us to be the people we are today. We wouldn’t be who we are without you guys. And thank you for accepting us and our relationship wholeheartedly.

To our wedding party, you guys rock! All the nights we spent brainstorming, all the emails we sent, and all the effort that went into planning — everything was more than worth it. Everyone, let’s put our hands together for Sarah, Deedee, Madeline, Candace, Robbie, Greyson, Ashton, and Yuan!

Lastly, we also want to shout out our extremely talented, kind, and overall amazing vendors: Jiro and Jenna, our photographers; Katie and her team, our planner-decorator-florist-coordinator extraordinaire; Norah, our hair and makeup stylist; Khaled, our DJ; and the staff here at New Orleans Events Place and Catering Services.

We hope you have a great and unforgettable night, everyone! Cheers!

General Outline of Wedding Thank You Speeches

Before proceeding to make a draft of your speech, it will be helpful to have an outline to follow. This outline will give you an idea of what to include in your speech. Here are the parts of a wedding thank you speech:

  • Introduction . The simplest and best way to start your speech is to thank your guests for attending your wedding. You do not need to introduce yourself, as everyone there already knows you.
  • Express what you are feeling . Does it feel surreal? What are you grateful for? Has this day been perfect? Is this your dream wedding? Let your guests know what you are feeling, and what everything means to you.
  • Mention certain people . This part of your thank you speech is an opportunity to give a shout-out to everyone who has helped you in one way or another. Some examples include bridesmaids who helped with planning everything, relatives who financed parts of the event, friends who provided support, and anyone that you think deserves credit. You can also include vendors, such as photographers and caterers. If you think this part will be too long, be more inclusive — instead of dropping names, lump them in categories, such as friends, relatives, and members of the wedding party.
  • Encourage your guests to enjoy the rest of the night . Tell them about the delicious dinner they are about to have, the open bar, or the photo booth. Get them excited to party and celebrate your union.
  • Conclusion . Simply thank your guests again for their attendance or raise your glass in a toast. Keep your conclusion short.

How Long Should the Speech Be?

On average, wedding thank you speeches last anywhere between 30 seconds to two minutes. The longest you can go would be five minutes. Keep this in mind as you start to draft your speech. Conciseness is important, as other people will also be making a speech as well. This includes your maid of honor , best man, sister , and other loved ones.

Who Gives the Speech?

Both you and your partner can deliver the speech if you want. You can either write one speech and divide it between the two of you, or you can each come up with a speech you will give.

Alternatively, you can also have one of you deliver the speech. After creating the script together, one of you can speak on behalf of the other. This option works well with couples wherein one individual does not like public speaking.

Writing Your Speech

Keeping the above considerations in mind, you can start drafting your speech. It is recommended that you write everything as it comes to your mind. Once you are done doing so, you can then begin revising; look out for grammatical errors, the flow of the speech, word choice, and so on. Continue revising until you are fully satisfied with the result.

Practice Your Speech Out Loud

An important aspect of revising your speech is to practice saying it out loud. Doing this will help you catch subtler errors, as well as give you an idea of the flow and rhythm of your speech. Pay attention to natural pauses, breathing spaces, and the pace of your delivery. Practice with your partner and other trusted people and ask them for constructive criticism and areas for improvement.

Tips for Delivering a Wedding Thank You Speech

Other Things You Can Include in Your Speech

If you want to further personalize your wedding thank you speech, here are a few additional things you can incorporate into your script:

  • A personal anecdote . Tell a short story about you and your partner’s relationship. It does not have to be wedding-related; you can talk about something funny, something memorable, or something inspiring. This is also an effective way to inject some humor into your speech.
  • A joke . Another way to include some humor is to make a joke. Depending on your guests, you can make a funny, witty, or even risqué joke. You can also poke fun at something that happened to you and your partner throughout the time you have been together. Oppositely, it may not be a good idea to share an inside joke that only you and a select few people know the context of.

Use Audience-Friendly Language

Unknowingly, you may have used deep or convoluted words in your speech, such as “lambent,” “egregious,” or anything that can be considered too poetic and flowery. Odds are only some of your guests will understand what you are trying to say.

It is best to use informal, audience-friendly, and accessible language. You do not have to try to impress your guests with a deep vocabulary; what matters more is the sentiment and emotions you are genuinely expressing.

Overcoming Your Fear of Public Speaking

Depending on the size of your guest list, you may or may not have a problem with delivering a wedding thank you speech. Regardless, here are a few tips to keep in mind so that you will feel a little less anxious about giving a speech:

  • Do not look your guests in the eye . Knowing that everyone is staring at you can be intimidating and overwhelming. One way to alleviate this is to look at their foreheads instead of making direct eye contact. Your guests will still think that you are looking at them, but you will not see their facial expressions.
  • Do not memorize your speech . You are bound to forget a specific detail, certain names, or dedications you want to make. As an alternative, you can print a copy of your speech or make some cue cards to help you as you go. If you use quality stationery, this can double as a keepsake for your wedding.
  • Practice some more . The more you rehearse your script, the more familiar you will be with its flow and structure. Doing this, along with having cue cards, will help you deliver your speech without referring too much to your copy.

Final Thoughts

Gratitude is one of the many things you will be feeling on your wedding day — gratitude for your family, friends, partner, and vendors who made your special day possible and unforgettable. There are several ways you can honor them and making a speech during your reception is one of them. Regardless of how you write the “ bride and groom thank you speech “, what matters is that you are speaking from the heart.

How to Write a Great Wedding Thank You Speech

Writing your thank you speech can be intimidating. It’s something you’ll often think about at the very beginning and then totally forget about as you get swept into picking flowers, colours cakes and of course the dress.

It can also be a really hard thing to put together as emotions get high (you are planning one of the biggest days of your life after all) so we put this post together to help you get started and to break it down in bite-size pieces:

wedding thank you speech sample singapore

Make sure you write something out in advance so you at least have an idea of what you plan to say. Plus, it never hurts to read it out loud a few times, especially in front of someone to help get any stage fright butterflies out of the way.

Make a list and check it twice

Remember to thank those who have helped you along the way and made your special day possible. If you think you might forget anyone, write yourself a small note to keep on hand.

Your Rock Star Wedding Party

Thank your wedding party for all their time, effort and hard work to help bring your special day together. Even if they didn’t end up doing as much as you thought, or they were simply just there on the day for support (maybe they live in another city and couldn’t be there with you for the planning)  be sure to thank them.

Brides holding hands - Amanda Douglas Events

Your family

Be sure to take the time to thank your parents and the parents of your new spouse. This is also a great time to make any promises or declarations on how you plan to take care of them for and with their parents. If they’ve welcomed you to the family with open arms or have done anything that has really warmed your heart say so. This is a beautiful time to share these sorts of things.

This is also a great time in your speech to thank any out of town guests or family that have travelled from afar.

Take your time

Speak slowly and take your time, also make sure those in the back can hear you. Practice a few times in front of a mirror and time yourself. You’ll be surprised at how fast you might be when you look at the end time.

But also make sure your speech does not carry on and on. Keep it to the point and stick to your notes. It is your wedding but your guests will thank you if you don’t go on for 20 minutes.

Keep it light and fun, feel free to add in a joke to help keep your guests attention.

It is often best to keep the language ‘family-friendly’ and keep the stories equally appropriate. Some things are best kept as an inside joke.

A little thanks goes a long way

Thank your vendors that helped make your day extra special. No need to go into much detail, unless you want to, but vendors always feel touched when they’ve been thanked by name (their company or personal one).

And always, always, thank your guests for attending your special day! Make sure they know their love, support, gifts and attendance does not go unappreciated.

Thank You Speech For Wedding

10 reasons why thank you speech for wedding are important.

A wedding thank you speech holds significant importance for several reasons, as it goes beyond the formalities of an event and touches upon the emotional and personal aspects of your special day. Here are 10 key reasons why a wedding thank you speech is considered important.

1. Gratitude and Appreciation: A wedding is a significant event that often involves the participation and support of many people, such as family, friends, and vendors. A thank you speech allows the couple to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation for the love, help, and contributions they received in making their wedding day special.

2. Acknowledgment of Guests: Guests attend the wedding to celebrate the couple’s union and show their support. By delivering a thank you speech, the couple can acknowledge the presence of their guests and make them feel valued and important in their lives.

3. Personal Connection: A thank you speech creates a personal connection between the couple and their guests. It allows the couple to share their emotions, memories, and thoughts, making the event more meaningful and intimate.

4. Reciprocity: Just as guests put effort into attending the wedding, bringing gifts, and participating in the celebration, a thank you speech shows that the couple also cares about their guests’ involvement and wants to reciprocate the kindness they’ve received.

5. Closure: A thank you speech can serve as a way to officially close the wedding festivities. It marks the end of the celebration and provides a sense of closure for everyone involved, allowing them to leave with positive memories and feelings.

6. Strengthening Relationships: Expressing gratitude through a thank you speech can strengthen relationships between the couple and their loved ones. It shows that the couple values these relationships and is willing to put in the effort to maintain and nurture them.

7. Setting a Positive Tone: A thank you speech sets a positive tone for the couple’s married life. It emphasizes the importance of appreciation, communication, and the willingness to express gratitude, which are qualities that can contribute to a successful and harmonious marriage.

8. Tradition and Etiquette: In many cultures, delivering a thank you speech is a customary part of the wedding reception. Following this tradition not only demonstrates respect for cultural norms but also shows that the couple understands and respects the etiquette of such events.

9. Public Declaration of Love: While a wedding ceremony typically involves vows that express love and commitment, a thank you speech offers an additional opportunity for the couple to publicly declare their love and appreciation for each other in front of their friends and family.

10 . Memorable Moment: A well-delivered thank you speech can become a cherished memory for both the couple and their guests. It adds an emotional and heartwarming touch to the wedding day that everyone can carry with them.

Writing and delivering a heartfelt wedding thank you speech is a wonderful opportunity to express your gratitude and appreciation to all those who have contributed to making your special day memorable. Whether you’re a seasoned public speaker or someone who’s nervous about speaking in front of a crowd, following some key do’s and avoiding certain don’ts can help you create a meaningful and memorable speech that truly resonates with your audience. In this guide, we’ll delve into the do’s and don’ts of preparing a wedding thank you speech.

How To Prepare A Thank You Speech?

Plan Ahead: Start preparing your thank you speech well in advance. This will give you ample time to organize your thoughts, revise, and rehearse. Avoid procrastination, as last-minute speech preparation can lead to unnecessary stress.

Express Genuine Gratitude: The heart of a thank you speech is your sincere appreciation. Be genuine in your expression of gratitude, and let your emotions shine through your words. Speak from the heart, and your authenticity will resonate with your audience.

Personalize Your Thanks: Tailor your thank you speech to specific individuals or groups. Mention people by name, and recall specific moments or contributions they made to your wedding. This personal touch shows that you’ve genuinely taken the time to reflect on their support.

Share Memorable Moments: Incorporate anecdotes or stories that highlight the relationships and interactions you’ve had with those you’re thanking. These stories can add a personal and heartwarming dimension to your speech.

Be Concise: While heartfelt thanks are important, avoid turning your speech into a lengthy monologue. Keep your speech concise and focused. Aim for a duration of around 3 to 5 minutes to ensure that you maintain your audience’s attention.

Practice and Rehearse: Practice makes perfect. Rehearse your speech multiple times to get comfortable with the flow and pacing. This will help you reduce nervousness and deliver your speech confidently.

Maintain Eye Contact: When delivering your speech, make eye contact with your audience. This establishes a connection and helps convey your gratitude more effectively.

Use Humor Wisely: Incorporating light humor can engage your audience and add a touch of charm to your speech. However, ensure that your humor is appropriate and doesn’t overshadow the sincerity of your thanks.

Acknowledge Vendors and Professionals: Remember to thank not only friends and family but also the vendors, musicians, photographers, and other professionals who contributed to your wedding’s success. Acknowledging their efforts can foster positive relationships.

End on a Positive Note: Conclude your speech with a positive sentiment or a heartfelt statement. Leave your audience with a warm feeling and a sense of unity.

What Are The Mistakes To Avoid?

Don’t Overwhelm with Details: While it’s great to share anecdotes, avoid going into lengthy and overly detailed stories. Keep your speech focused on expressing gratitude rather than recounting every minute detail of the wedding.

Don’t Rely Solely on Notes: While having notes as a reference is helpful, avoid reading your entire speech directly from a piece of paper. This can make your speech sound robotic and disconnected from your emotions.

Avoid Excessive Jargon or Inside Jokes: While it’s okay to reference shared experiences, avoid using inside jokes that only a few people would understand. You want everyone in the audience to feel included in your expression of thanks.

Don’t Rush Through Your Speech: Nervousness can lead to speaking too quickly. Take your time, breathe, and speak at a moderate pace. This will help you articulate your words clearly and ensure that your gratitude is well-received.

Avoid Negative Remarks: Your thank you speech is a moment to celebrate and appreciate. Avoid any negative comments, criticisms, or complaints, as they can dampen the positive atmosphere of the event.

Don’t Forget to Thank Both Sides: If there are two families involved, ensure that you express gratitude to both sides equally. This helps avoid any perception of favoritism and maintains a harmonious atmosphere.

Avoid Rambling: Stay on track and avoid veering off into unrelated topics. Stick to expressing thanks and keep your speech focused on the people and contributions you’re acknowledging.

Don’t Compare Contributions: While it’s natural to want to acknowledge different levels of support, avoid directly comparing the efforts of different individuals or groups. Each contribution is valuable in its own right.

Don’t Wing It Completely: While improvisation can add authenticity, avoid completely improvising your speech without any preparation. Even a brief outline can help you stay on track and organized.

Avoid Being Overly Formal: While gratitude is important, don’t make your speech overly formal or rehearsed. Let your personality shine through, and speak in a way that feels natural to you.

In essence, a wedding thank you speech is more than just a formality; it’s a heartfelt expression of gratitude and an opportunity to connect with your loved ones on a deeper level. It contributes to the overall emotional richness of your wedding day, leaving a positive and lasting impact on both you and your guests.

Most common questions about wedding thank you speeches

What should be included within the thank you speech.

In doing a wedding speech, prepare a list of who you plan to thank for your wedding thank you speech. The wedding guests, wedding vendors, wedding coordinator, best friends, family, in-laws, maid of honor, best man, and of course your husband are just some of the people you may give a shout-out to in your bride speech.

General Outline of Wedding Thank You Speeches

It would be nice to start with something such as a joke or a short story to lighten the mood. Then proceed with thanking the very special people who have been with you on this joyous occasion. Make them feel how grateful you are. Make it a point to have a punchy end to your speech with a toast.

Say Some Words About Specific People

Tell everyone a short story [that could be funny] to start your speech. This may apply to your best friends, family, in-laws, and of course

How Long Should the Speech Be?

A wedding thank you speech should be short and sweet. It may last for two to five minutes as long as the wedding guests do not look too bored.

Thank your loved ones

Their mere presence makes this event really special. Not to mention the support that they have given you your whole life. Make sure to add them to your list!

Mention Specific People

Some might feel even more special when you mention them in your speech. These may be from your closest family or friends. It wouldn't hurt to give them a shoutout on this wonderful day.

Use Audience-Friendly Language

You want everyone to understand you and feel how grateful you are. It may be better if you speak informally to make it sound more authentic.

Detail a Wish for Your Guests

Thanking your guests would also entail a hopeful wish for them that they may also feel as special as you on this special day.

Describe What This Moment Means to You

You have waited a long time for this wedding so you would want your audience to know that in this marriage you have found someone that gives you unconditional love. Isn't that what a lot of people have dreamed of? Now you have it so talk and talk about it!

Practice Your Speech Out Loud

This is a great way to overcome your fear of public speaking. It may also make you more confident ad familiar with your speech.

Maintain Appropriate Eye Contact

This makes the thank you speech more personal. But do this with caution as eye contact lasting a little too long may come off as creepy and we don't want that.

Add Some Humor

As mentioned, this may serve as an icebreaker when the emotions are just running too high. Make it a point to at least give your guests a little laugh.

Overcoming Your Fear of Public Speaking

You may practice your speech in your room as many times as you want before the big day or find someone who can serve as an audience to help you.

Exhibit some facial Expressions

You do not want to look too robotic. Of course, you need to express your feelings to your wedding guests. This also makes it feel a little less boring.

Say Some Words Of Gratitude To All The Guests

Each and every one invited to your wedding is surely a special one who have allotted time for your wedding so make them feel that you are grateful.

Do Not Make It Too Long And Boring

You can personalize your wedding speech however you want to but again, do not make it too long and boring. You can add your love story and no one will bat an eye except if you make it a long one.

Sample Wedding Thank You Speech

Here is a rather long and intimate example of a wedding speech

I am not really good with public speaking so I would like to begin this speech with a story. When I was little, I would always plan the perfect wedding. I would pick up little flowers from our garden, arrange them into the most beautiful bouquet I have ever seen, and run up to my room. I would then grab my blanket and wrap it around my body pretending to be a dress. Put little clips on my hair and tie it with a bow. Oh! Of course, a perfect wedding would not be complete without a partner, right? I’ll pick my favorite stuffed toy and spray it with the sweetest scent I have. Then, I would start the ceremony, giggling throughout what I thought was the most romantic thing I would ever experience once I get older.

Then I got a little older. A lot of things have changed. I have matured but I am still that same little girl who once dreamed of the perfect wedding. Although I have stopped to pretend to kiss my stuffed toys, I still dream of the sweetest and most romantic kiss of my life. I have watched tons of romantic comedies to try to tweak my perfect wedding plan. I just want everything to be perfect and to my liking, because I believe that this should be the best moment of my life. I believe I had everything all planned out except for the man I will share this perfect moment with. Oh how I have prayed and wished so hard to all of the gods, saints, and whatever people believe in to help me find my perfect man. Each day I wake up and whisper to the heavens, “please help me find him today.” I just could not wait any longer to celebrate this joyous event.

Days, months, seasons, and years passed. I am now standing here in front of that man I prayed and wished so hard for. This man turned my world. I believed everything I watched in romcom movies was what would happen to me. But boy was I so wrong. I thought that the hardest part of a wedding was choosing your gown. Spoiler alert: it was writing the vows. I have not prepared for this. In all those silly weddings I had when I was little, the vows were not there. I mean, how could I even put into words everything this man had done for me? Much more to fit into a short speech. So I have been stressing a lot with the vows and I guess I have delivered successfully. I sure hope I did.

My childhood dream of sorts would not be possible without the help of a team of people. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude first to my dear wedding guests who have willingly shared their time with us today to celebrate another milestone in life, thank you. I know you all have busy schedules and whatever things you have planned. This time that you shared with us means so much to me and is more than any gift we could ask for. We hope you still continue to support and pray for us as we embark on this other journey as husband and wife. I also hope you have enjoyed the food we just served.

Second, to our amazing wedding team. The servers, caterers, wedding planners and coordinators, florists, singers, designers, and photographers. We would really like to thank you a lot for helping us make this the perfect wedding. You have really relieved us from a chunk of the stress by lending us your helping hand and making sure this event would run smoothly. You have made this seemingly small and regular event look so grand and beautiful. You guys were the real backbone of this event. You made it so much easier for us. For that, we will always be thankful to you. Thank you also to our presider for making this event a solemn one and sharing with us the grace from the heavens.

Next of course would be our loyal and tireless bridesmaids and groomsmen. You have been with us from the beginning of this wild journey and you have also helped in making this a memorable one. You have always got our backs. You have been extra cooperative in whatever ideas we throw to make this more personalized for us. From picking the right dress to picking the right flowers and to photoshoots and all you guys never complained. Well, you guys are our friends so I think I should add picking the right partner? Kidding aside, I sincerely thank you all for everything you have done for us. You guys are the realest!

Fourth would be for my family, mommy and daddy. My parents who have birthed me into this world. Hey, partner! You should also thank my parents because, without them, you would not be standing here with the most beautiful person you have ever met who also happens to be the one you're going to spend your future with. Going back to my parents who have nothing but love for me. Who has always been so supportive of me. The people who I run to first. The two people who have provided every single need that I have. Thank you. I may not have said this often to you guys but I really do thank you for everything. You have taught me a lot of valuable lessons that I will surely bring with me for life. You raised me to be the best version of myself. Yes, I have made mistakes but you were the first ones to correct me without feeling that that mistake would forever define me. Thank you for guiding me.

To my new parents, the parents of my loving partner. I am really excited to join your family. I am looking forward to the new memories I would create with you. I am positive that these will be happy ones. Just like my partner, I would really like to thank you for raising this person to be a good one. Thank you for blessing us with this wonderful person. Of course, I would also like to thank you for being very supportive of our love. I know I can always count on you for whatever things I would need. Thank you for welcoming me with warm and open arms to your family.

Lastly, to my dear husband. I have been dreaming of this day since I was a child and here I am today in front of you, my perfect man. Thank you for being so patient with me. Yes, the wifezilla thing at weddings is real and yes this man had held my hand all throughout and remained calm. The effect of the stress of wedding planning on me did not even bother you. God, I’m so thankful that you are a patient man. I hope you stay that way for a long time. We have been through a lot of challenges and I am sure we would encounter more so I thank you for still choosing to be with me. I have said a lot during our vows and I still have a lot more to say but those will never be enough to describe how thankful I am that you are the one I am marrying.

So, to everyone invited here today as our wedding guests to celebrate this next chapter of our lives, cheers! Thank you for coming and enjoy the wedding reception and let’s all use the dance floor. May you all find your perfect partners.

Short Sample Wedding Thank You Speech

Here is a short and sweet one:

To everyone who shared this special occasion with us, thank you. Our wedding day will not be as special as this one without all the support that you, our dear wedding guests have given us. Thank you to our entire wedding party, family, and friends.

To my wedding entourage, you all look beautiful tonight. Thank you for your patience and support. I really do hope you enjoyed the food here at the wedding reception.

To my best friend who has helped me this whole journey, I really do appreciate everything you have done for me.

To my parents, mom and dad thank you for supporting us all throughout. Thank you for providing us with our needs and guiding us every step of the way.

To my partner's parents, I am excited to be a part of your family. Thank you for the warm welcome and I look forward to the new memories we will share with each other.

To my lover, thank you for loving me unconditionally. This dream wedding of mine has come true because you are the one standing here beside me.

Let us now proceed to the dance floor and dance our hearts out. Cheers, everyone!

Writing speeches may be a bit overwhelming to some but I wish this article has helped you come up with the best you can. If public speaking is not for you, well there can always be alternatives such as a poem, a song number, or a dance presentation. It is your choice as long as you make your wedding guests feel appreciated. Do not forget to rest before the big day!

How to Make a Wedding Thank You Speech with Examples

wedding thank you speech

A wedding thank you speech is one of the most important parts of any wedding reception. They are a way to express your gratitude to all of those gathered especially your parents, who have supported you throughout your life and helped you plan this special day. As a wedding videographer, I’ve witnessed countless beautiful moments on the big day. But one that consistently tugs at the heartstrings? The heartfelt thank you speeches were delivered by the happy couple. It’s a chance to express gratitude to loved ones who helped make the day so special, especially your parents.

However, crafting the perfect speech can feel daunting. Fear not! This guide will equip you with all the tools you need. We’ll explore key elements for a well-rounded speech, offer tips on overcoming nerves, and even show you real-world video examples to spark inspiration. Let’s ensure your thank you speech resonates with everyone present, and becomes a cherished memory captured forever in your wedding video.

What do you include in a wedding thank you speech?

A well-delivered wedding thank you speech is a beautiful way to express gratitude to everyone who helped make your special day unforgettable. It’s your chance to acknowledge the love and support you’ve received, and create a lasting memory for you and your guests. Here’s a breakdown of the key elements you should consider including:

1. Warm Welcome and Attention Grabber:

Start by greeting your audience. A simple “Good evening everyone” or “Thank you all for coming” works well. You can then grab their attention with a heartfelt sentiment about the day, a lighthearted anecdote about your relationship, or a brief introduction of your parents (especially if some guests are unfamiliar with them).

2. Expressing Gratitude:

This is the core of your speech. Here, you express your sincere appreciation to everyone who played a part in your wedding. Thank your guests for celebrating with you, especially those who traveled long distances. You can also extend your gratitude to specific groups like your family, friends, the wedding party, vendors, or anyone who went above and beyond to make the day special.

3. Highlighting Special People:

This section adds a personal touch and allows you to acknowledge loved ones in a more specific way. You can thank your parents for their unwavering support throughout your life, perhaps mentioning a specific value they instilled in you or a cherished memory you share. Briefly thanking your partner’s parents for welcoming you into the family is also a nice gesture. Your wedding party members can also be acknowledged for their help and friendship in planning the wedding.

4. Expressing Love to Your Partner:

Take a moment to express your love and appreciation for your new spouse. Briefly share your excitement about embarking on this journey together as a married couple.

5. Closing and Toast (Optional):

Conclude your speech by thanking everyone again for their presence and well wishes. You can express your hope for a joyous celebration throughout the rest of the evening. Optionally, raise a toast to your future together or to your loved ones.

Who do you thank in your speech?

In your wedding thank you speech, you can express gratitude to a variety of people who contributed to making your special day possible. Here’s a breakdown of the key groups you might want to consider thanking:

All Guests: This is a great way to kick off your speech. Thank everyone for attending your wedding and celebrating this momentous occasion with you. You can especially express appreciation to those who traveled long distances to be there.

Family: This is your chance to acknowledge the love and support you’ve received from your family throughout your life. Thank your parents for their guidance, sacrifices, and unwavering support. You can also thank siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, or any other family member who played a significant role.

Friends: Express gratitude to your close friends who have been by your side through thick and thin. You can thank them for their friendship, well wishes, and for being a part of your special day.

Wedding Party: Acknowledge your bridesmaids, groomsmen, maid/man of honor, and best man for their help in planning the wedding and for being there to support you on your big day. Mention any specific ways they helped make the wedding run smoothly.

Vendors: Briefly thank the vendors who made your wedding a success. This could include the photographer, videographer, caterer, florist, DJ/band, venue staff, officiant, hair and makeup stylists, or any other vendors who contributed to your special day.

Your Partner: This is your chance to express your love and appreciation for your new spouse. Briefly share how excited you are to embark on this journey together as a married couple.

  • You don’t have to thank everyone individually, especially if you have a large guest list.
  • Keep your speech concise and focus on the most important people who made your wedding special.
  • Be genuine and express your gratitude from the heart.pen_spark

wedding thank you speech

How long should a wedding thank you speech be?

A wedding thank you speech should ideally be short and sweet, aiming for a length between 2 to 5 minutes . Here’s why:

  • Attention Span: Guests have likely been celebrating for a while and might be ready to enjoy the food, music, and conversation. A concise speech keeps them engaged without dragging on.
  • Respect for Others: Multiple people might be delivering speeches throughout the reception. A shorter speech ensures everyone gets a chance to be heard and avoids monopolizing the attention.
  • Emotional Impact: Shorter speeches can often pack a stronger emotional punch. They allow you to express your gratitude sincerely without rambling or losing focus.

Here’s a breakdown of the ideal timeframe:

  • 2-3 minutes: This is a great sweet spot for a concise and impactful speech. It allows you to thank the key people and express your emotions without feeling rushed.
  • 4-5 minutes: This is the absolute maximum you should aim for. If you find your speech going longer, consider trimming down the thank yous to specific groups or anecdotes.
  • It’s better to have a heartfelt and concise speech than a long and drawn-out one.
  • Practice your speech beforehand to ensure you can deliver it comfortably within the desired time frame.

5 Great Wedding Thank You Speech Templates for Brides and Grooms

It is that special time, the distinct and heartfelt moment when you and your betrothed are espoused.

It is a tradition and expected that the Bride and Groom take a few minutes during all the merriment to give a special wedding thank you speech.

This speech passes a message to all those who have graced the occasion with their presence and allows you to acknowledge their effort and your gratitude.

Outline for the wedding thank you speech

When writing a wedding thank you speech, you should always have it in mind that you are taking precious time out from a pre-arranged, pretty busy wedding timetable so there are a few things to note:

wedding thank you speech sample singapore

You don’t want to drift on and on without end. Also, determine in advance whether the bride or groom will deliver their speech first, or if you are speaking together, who is saying what parts.   It is highly likely that there will be a few tears, as it is a joyous day. If there are, that’s ok but make sure to finish the speech in due time, so as to allow the wedding activities to continue on, uninterrupted.   Speak clearly, truthfully and to the point, remember, stay composed until you are finished speaking.

Remember, the point of the speech is to thank your guests. Raunchy or unnecessarily sexual inuendo may make some attendees uncomfortable. There will be plenty of time for that on your honeymoon!.   In essence, private details should remain where they belong and not come up during the “thank you” speech at your wedding.

Even if you are an experienced orator it is advisable to read it out a few times in front of loving critics, or in front of a mirror to help you get your words and emotions straight.

No phrase, philosophy, or proverb can ever out match the good old “Thank you”. You can be yourself: glam, quirky or philosophical, but be succinct.

Infuse your gratitude into your speech as much as you can. Those two words convey a lot of simplicity with a dash of love. So, don’t say them in a patronizing way, but with a heart of gratitude.

Wedding thank you speech 1

wedding thank you speech sample singapore

My husband/wife and I worked really hard together to try to make this day perfect.

We assumed the planning would be similar to organizing a party but were we wrong! Halfway into the preparations we got stuck – no one told us wedding preparations were so hectic.

At some point, we realized there really is no such thing as a ‘perfect’ wedding so there was no use stressing over something that was supposed to be the best day of our lives.

Then we remembered that it is about being bound to the one person who means the world to you, that all your loved ones and well-wishers will be around you to celebrate and support you; and that is what makes the ‘perfect’ wedding.

I am happy the weather is more beautiful than I had prayed for it to be, the food and drinks also exceed expectations.

Thank you, everyone, especially my better half because today turned out to be a lot more than our ‘planning’ gave me hoped for.

Thank you.

Wedding Thank You Speech 2

wedding thank you speech sample singapore

Roses are red, violets are blue, no, no, no, scratch that. Those were the words I would have used in high school to woo my sweetheart, but now it’s the real deal.

I am finally married to the only person who has managed to see all my flaws and shortcomings as a bridge to the better me.

Now I want to re-phrase my old lines because even if roses turn green and daffodils turn blue my love for you would still never ever end.

So I say thank you to you my love, thank you to my parents and in-laws, thank you friends and everyone.

I cannot put a finger on what is making me so bubbly inside; whether it is the fact that the love of my life is finally mine forever or the fact that my much-awaited honeymoon is approaching.

You all have done mighty well in gracing this occasion with us and helping us make it a success. I am deeply grateful. Thank you.

50 Questions to Get to Know Someone Who You’Ve Newly Met

Wedding Thank You Speech 3

wedding thank you speech sample singapore

I never take for granted being born to the kind of parents I have; their love influenced me to grow up hoping to marry someone who would share with me the kind of love they shared.

I never used to believe in wishful thinking before, but I am now married to a man/woman who grew up with the same dream – to share as much love, and hopefully even more love, than our parents.

I am happy that we are here before you on this day in complete certainty that we made the best choice in ourselves as husband and wife, with radiating love and great joy.

I am happy our relatives are here with us, and I am also thankful to everyone who took out time from their busy schedule to honor us today with their warm hearts.

Thank you so much.

Wedding Thank You Speech 4

wedding thank you speech sample singapore

I know not everyone here has heard the story of how I met my husband/wife, and to those of you whom have heard it a thousand times before, I promise I’ll spare you this time.

I do not know if anyone has ever experienced the feeling I am having right now: the feeling of having thought of a scenario so completely, down to the last detail, that when the event finally happens, everything feels like déjà vu?

Well if you have then you understand me when I say, I could not have imagined this day to be any better.

Thanks to our clothier we are both here dressed gorgeously as one of the loveliest newlyweds this part of the earth has to offer, and I cannot wait to witness the day I would be celebrating my 40th wedding anniversary.

It is nothing short of a blessing to be married to a man/woman like my husband/wife.

I am happy and ecstatic, I say thank you to you all, thank you to her/him and thank you to all well-wishers.

Wedding Thank You Speech 5

wedding thank you speech sample singapore

Someone has told me that one of the greatest things that can happen to any living being is to love and be loved in return.

When I first heard that I laughed and said “Really!! of all the things on earth? That has to be for someone simple”.

With great joy, I can stand before you all here today to tell you that I eat my earlier words. I have found love with my wife/husband unlike any other. I know a lot of you here understand exactly what I mean.

Now I raise my glass, saying cheers, as I give a toast to my soul mate, to my friends and families, and to everyone who has helped in any way at all to make this day a blessing to us: here’s to you.

I really hope everyone finds a love as complete as I have, and may love always radiate from you to everyone around you.

That is really all there is to writing a wedding thank you speech: gratitude. A few words can go a long way in planting your intentions in the hearts of many.

Now that you have read some different speeches you can use to express yourself, do us a favor and nail it on that day. Above all, have a blast and have a wonderful wedding.

How I started As a Wedding Emcee

Step 1: Understanding The Couple

Step 2: Understanding the Guests' Demographics

Step 3: Gathering the Necessary Information

Step 4: Knowing the plan and timeline of the banquet

Step 5: Sample Wedding Emcee Script

How I Started as a Wedding Emcee

When I first started out as a Wedding Emcee in Singapore, I was armed with nothing except loose pieces of the script provided by the venue. I stuck to the script word for word, weaving bilingually between English and Mandarin, afraid of mispronouncing words and names during important segments.

Over time, I realized the key to being a good wedding emcee was more than just efficiently delivering whatever was written on the paper. It requires you to think on your feet at all times, create the ideal atmosphere the wedding couple wanted, ensure the flow of events run smoothly, and of course, not messing up any sequences or names. Therefore, one of the crucial stages would be to have a functional script on hand.

The same papers I used years ago, is still, in fact, relevant today. All you have to do is tweak it to fit the wedding and below are some steps to help take some stress off your shoulder if emcee duties have fallen on you.

1) Understanding the couple

The stars of the wedding should always be the couple. Hence it is essential to acknowledge their preferences and choices. Are they a spontaneous couple who prefer a fun-filled interactive wedding? Or would they prefer something a little more traditional and formal because of their guests’ demographics? Do they have a dream theme in mind? Knowing the answers to these questions will help set your mood and pace for the banquet.

I usually try to find out if there are interesting or memorable incidences that the couple is comfortable sharing as this engages the guests. Similarly, it would be good to know if there are any taboo topics that the couple would like to avoid.

2) Understanding the guests’ demographics

A brief idea of who is seated amongst the audience would also help you determine the appropriate tone and main medium of language for the wedding. For example, you can even throw in dialects if there are a lot of senior folks around. To take things a step further, a rough idea of where each group of guests are seated could help facilitate your interactive segments, if any.

Step 3: Gathering the necessary information

This is one of the most crucial steps as nothing beats getting the bride and/or groom’s name wrong. If you were to specially mention and thank their family members or important guests, ensure you have all correct names written down and always check with the couple on pronunciation.

4) Knowing the plan and timeline of the banquet

While most weddings follow a set of sequences, it is not uncommon for couples to do away with certain segments or switch up the flow of events. It is important to run through the programme prior to the big day and double-check once more on the actual day with all coordinators and vendors present. Knowing the timeline of the segments and inserting them into the script will also help ensure minimal errors. For example, the second march in usually happens in between the 4th and 5th dish and most couples would play their morning highlights prior to marching in. Being aware will guide you when you need to be ready to take the stage to address the audience again.

5) Sample Wedding Emcee Script

And here we are, the last step is to craft out the actual script. As mentioned, most weddings cover similar segments and all you need to do is ensure the flow is as discussed and all necessary information has been collected for you to input into the script. Below is a sample of a generic wedding script, with both English and Mandarin versions included. It could be done bilingually by either one emcee, or if you have a counterpart, each host takes one language.

a) Welcome Greetings

各位来宾大家下午好,我想慎重邀请在座的贵宾入席就坐, 宴会即将开始。

my hubby did the speech in Mandarin and I did it in English, same speech. in this way both got to speak

me too hv stage fright...so worry that i will say the wrong things or just simply tongue tight!

Me too have stage fright. But then again, my parents will kill me if we go without the thank-you speech, especially to thank those who came all the way from overseas. And I think we should also thank our parents. I am thinking of buying 2 bouquets of flowers for my mum and MIL also.

Hi Angeline, Actually I was thinking of the other way round. Me present to my MIL and my hubby to my mum, for thanking them for everything they have done for us. I suppose you can always present other gifts, which you think they will like. But frankly speaking, whatever you give them on that day, they will be very touched. My only question is, should we also present to the dads? Thanks Chin Leng, It is really a very good speech. I will be so touched if my husband said all these.

hi all, Chin Leng : thanks for sharing the speech guidelines...but i think it'll kill my hubby to say something so long... and i'm so shy, i will rather make it a short one so that i can get out of the stage asap... and angeline, me also thinking of ways to avoid saying "thank you" line....but don't think we can...stressed!!!

  • Apr 13, 2002

Threw my speech away long ago, basically thanked helpers parents and some personal messages to certain pple. keep it short and sweet 'K.I.S.S'

My hubby attended a family wedding and the thank you speech from the groom was LONG...a lot of guests commented on the text too. He mentioned a lot of names like :"Mr. XXX, CEO of XXX. And Mr. YYY CEO of YYY......." All those he mentioned were BIG names from some major companies..... My question is, is there a need to spell out who your guests are? Some older folks thought it is plain 'hao lian'..... I am not too sure cos some think it is only polite to mention..... How?

I think it's really important to make a thank you speech at your wedding. Husband and I are shy so we decided to skip it, however i really regretted the decision coz it's the only time when you can thank the people who are closest and dearest to u and let them know how much you appreciate them. If i had a chance to do it all over again, i will never give up the chance to make a speech.

Hi Everybody, Do you know where we should give our "Thank you speech" during the dinner? Regards, Hinn

Hi is me again, Sori ... silly me is when & not where ...

depends on how long ur speech is going to be, else i think it's better to do at the beginning, i.e. after 1st walk-in when everyone is seated. but then again, if the dinner has been late in starting, ur guests might not appreciate a long one. mine was just 5min (husband and wife), so we went ahead with ours.
