Police academy collection.

Police Academy is a series of American comedy films, the first six of which were made in the 1980s. The seventh and to date last installment, Mission to Moscow, was released in 1994. The new film is scheduled for production for 2014. The series opened with Police Academy (1984) which started with the premise that a new mayor had announced a policy requiring the police department to accept all willing recruits. The movie followed a group of misfit recruits in their attempts to prove themselves capable of being police officers. The main character, Carey Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg), was a repeat offender who was forced to join the police academy as punishment.

The real story is the arrival of Bobcat Goldthwait to the series.

Police Academy 2 won't win any awards and its humor is pure slapstick. Like most of the number sequels, this is a pale imitation of the first.

Everything you liked about the first one is doubly dumbed down upon here until you can hardly breathe.

The results of all this are, in fact, pretty funny; not as funny as the first film, but still pretty funny, anyway.

They're not movies so much as variety shows featuring talented young comics.

More trash, though graced with the franchise's best actor, Bobcat Goldthwait.

Compared to the first film, this film received negative reviews receiving only a 33% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 15 reviews.

However, film critic Leonard Maltin gave the movie a BOMB rating (the first of 5 for the series), saying, "There are Dragnet episodes that are funnier than this movie."

  • This is the first and only film in the series to receive a PG-13 rating.
