Personally, I travelled to Australia to do my PhD for the adventure and lifestyle. I was able to get a fee-waived placement and international student fee waiver for three years to finish my degree.

However, a nominal administration fee, approximately €300 per semester, is required. • Prepare for stiff competition: Because these programs are fully funded, the competition is high. It’s not uncommon for hundreds or even thousands of students to apply to these programs each year, with only a small fraction being accepted.
• Consider assistantships: Fully-funded programs usually provide a stipend in the form of Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) or Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) positions. These roles involve either teaching or conducting research under a professor’s supervision.

This means they operate like a postsecondary institution even though they don’t have the proper accreditation to award legitimate degrees.

Degree mills focus more on generating revenue than providing high-quality education. They often attract users by advertising free tuition, only to charge an assortment of other fees (exam fees, graduation fees, etc.). If you attend a degree mill, you’ll likely waste a lot of money on a program that doesn’t have qualified instructors or an effective curriculum. Worse yet, employers generally don’t respect degrees earned from these institutions, so it won’t even help you advance your career.

There are a few ways to determine whether a college is legitimate. First, if a school’s domain name doesn’t end in “.edu,” that’s a big red flag. Even a “.org” suffix is suspicious, and you certainly shouldn’t trust any online college that ends in “.com.”

• Kellogg’s distinguished faculty includes trailblazing scholars whose research has redefined the study of management and has set a standard for new ideas and innovation. Currently there are 139 tenure-track, research-based faculty, of whom 68 hold endowed chairs. The faculty’s commitment to scholarly inquiry is evidenced by the school’s many research centers, as well as by sustained scholarly output. Their work is published in peer-reviewed journals , and many Kellogg professors serve in editorial positions at leading research journals.  The Kellogg faculty is deeply committed to PhD education. Within the past five years, over 60 different faculty have served on at least 3 PhD dissertation committees, and a phenomenal 26 faculty have chaired at least 2 committees!

Course choices must be approved by the department liaison prior to registration each term. The department liaison must also approve whether courses will be accepted as meeting the requirements for classification as major, minor, or research methodology courses. In the fall of the first year, all students are automatically registered for DS 906 Philosophy and Science of Research. All students must take a noncredit teaching intensive prior to the start of their third year.

Research Methodology & Methods Core

Candidates are required to complete five courses in research methods and design. Students, with the advice and approval of department liaisons, will choose these courses. Courses may be taken at the Questrom School of Business or may be selected from appropriate courses offered in other disciplines at the University.

At least two of the five research methodology courses must be taken from the following list of approved Methods Core courses:

• QST DS 919 Machine Learning Methods for Social Science Research

Major Area Courses

Students must acquire advanced knowledge of literature and theory in their area of specialization (the major). Such competence is gained by coursework, participation in seminars, and independent study. Candidates must complete five doctoral courses in the major area and pass a qualifying examination at the end of their coursework.

Minor Area Courses

Students are encouraged to choose a minor that draws on one or more of the social sciences that management theories draw on: for example, sociology, psychology, economics, and political science. Minor area courses may be selected from doctoral-level courses, including independent studies, from any department at the  Questrom School of Business (other than the major area), or from other graduate departments at the University. The five-course minor may also be custom-designed as an interdisciplinary conceptual area with the advice and consent of the department liaison. For example, a student may define the minor as “human behavior” and take five doctoral-level courses in psychology, anthropology, and sociology to meet the requirement.

Philosophy and Science of Research

All students are required to take QST DS 906 Philosophy and Science of Research.

Despite not having to pay tuition, you will still need to pay a semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag), which typically ranges from INR 8k to INR 29k. This pays for office expenses, student government, and student services (Studentenwerk).

In general, you must have completed at least eight semesters of college work before enrolling in a PhD program in Germany. Your final certification must be on par with a German master’s degree.

Additionally, the Dean’s Office (Dekanat) or Board of Examiners (Promotionsausschuss) at your university must acknowledge your prior higher education degree(s).

International students with exceptional qualifications may be admitted to a PhD program with a Bachelor’s degree (fast-track program), albeit you will normally need to pass an entrance exam.

The bulk of PhDs is completed as part of a program inside doctoral schools, although French universities occasionally do offer specific doctoral research programs.

The number is 266 in total. In order to provide doctorate training for PhD candidates and foster the growth of early career researchers, they are affiliated with universities and work in partnership with related research laboratories and other centres.

For a typical three-year PhD, a “doctorate” consists of six semesters, yielding two teachings (or research) semesters annually:

• late September to early January, with a break between Christmas and New Year
• early February to early June, with a spring break at Easter for several colleges

Exams are normally held at the conclusion of each semester, and institutions take a three-month summer break from July to September. As a full-time student, you will typically complete your PhD in France in 3–4 years.

The current French PhD tuition is the same for all students, regardless of nationality. But costs can differ greatly depending on whether you attend a public or private school (such a Grandes École).

Public institutions charge substantially lower tuition since the State invests an average of INR 11,62,147.82 per student, per year.

• Fees for PhD students at public institutions are €380 annually.
• Private institutions – Tuition at private institutions, particularly business schools, range from INR 2.49 Lakh to INR 8.30 Lakh per year.
• Administrative fees (frais de dossier), which universities may impose, are normally modest—a few tens of euros.

In France, each institution is permitted to establish its own standards and conduct personalized evaluations. However, in order to enroll as a PhD student, you will normally need to hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a suitable field.

If you are pursuing your master’s degree and expect to graduate before the PhD program begins, you may apply.

Additionally, you could be accepted based on your performance on entrance tests and in pre-college courses like the ‘Classe préparatoire aux grandes écoles’ (CPGE), which is a frequent practice among French Grandes Écoles.

The programme focuses on the development of theoretical and applied research in business and management sciences through the acquisition of specialised skills, particularly in the following research areas Accounting and Accountability; Organisational Behaviour and Decision Making; Consumer Behaviour; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Family Business; International Management; Knowledge Management; Organisational Design and Human Resource Management; Strategy and Strategic Leadership; and Tourism Management.

The three-year full-time doctoral programme combines core seminars in quantitative and qualitative methods, relevant organisational and management theories and research strategies with additional individual training. Depending on the specific research interests and goals of the doctoral student, the content and learning methods are determined with the two supervisors.

This topic-specific individual support and mentoring, the promotion of interdisciplinary approaches and critical thinking, as well as financial support for research stays at renowned universities and a generous scholarship are features that set our programme apart from comparable programmes.

Doctoral students will be introduced to specific research areas of both faculties and will have the opportunity to participate in innovative research projects. They will benefit from a powerful combined set of resources (e.g. libraries, datasets, laboratories, facilities) to conduct relevant, international research. Programme structure

Students are assigned two tutors (unibz and UniTrento) who support the integration phase and ideally take over the supervision later. The first six months of the programme provide basic knowledge of methods and theories in the field of responsible management in order to develop a common skill set among our doctoral students, regardless of their background. Depending on individual research interests, information and opportunities for specialist training will be provided. Ideally, a working paper will be completed by the end of the first year. At the beginning of September, a progress review takes place to ensure that the expected progress is being met and that the student can continue.

The second year is used to further develop the specific research topic, to present initial results at conferences, to expand methodological and conceptual knowledge and, ideally, to develop a second working paper. Preferably, PhD students will already spend part of their external research stay at partner institutions. The academic year ends with the second progress review. The third year is devoted to completing or refining further publishable research and submitting it to academic conferences and journals. The dissertation, consisting of at least three published or publishable articles, must be submitted in early summer and defended at the end of the year after being assessed by external referees. Successful doctoral candidates will receive a doctorate from both participating universities.

All citizen may apply to be admitted to a PhD programme:

• Applicants holding a postgraduate degree as per Italian Ministerial Decree no. 509/1999, a postgraduate degree as per Italian Ministerial Decree no. 270/2004, a degree of the former Italian university system, or an equivalent degree obtained abroad;
• Applicants achieving one of the above mentioned titles within the enrolment deadline. In this case applicants will be admitted conditionally to the selection procedure and they must produce the degree certificate within the enrolment’s deadline. If not, their application is considered null and void. 
• In order to gain admission to this PhD programme, you will need to have obtained 300 ECTS credit points (Master degree): a) an Italian "Laurea Magistrale" (Master degree) or degree issued in accordance with the regulations in force prior to Ministerial Decree no. 509 of 3 November 1999, amended by Ministerial Decree no. 270 of 22 October 2004, in the indicated degree classes (LM-18, LM-31, LM-47, LM-49, LM-50, LM-51, LM52, LM-55, LM-59, LM-63, LM-66, LM-69, LM-75, LM-76, LM-77, LM-91, LMG-01) with a minimum final grade of 95/110 or b) an equivalent qualification (Master degree) obtained abroad at an officially recognized academic higher education institution. The degree must be equivalent to the Italian "Laurea Magistrale" (Master degree), in terms of duration, level and subject area, and must allow the access to an academic course equivalent to the PhD in the country/higher education system of provenance with a final mark of at least ECTS "C" or GPA 3.0 out of 5.0.

To apply for the position financed by European Social Fund Plus ESF+ Participants must also be under the age of 35 years, to be understood as up to the day before the participant's thirty-fifth birthday. The requirements must be fulfilled at the time of the deadline of the relevant call for applications (11/07/2024).

Applicants whose mother tongue is not English must document their language skills by presenting a language certificate (minimum level C1), such as TOEFL, IELTS or the First Certificate in English (grade "A") recognised by the Language Centre of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. Knowledge of English may also be demonstrated by qualifications (secondary school/bachelor/master) related to a program held entirely in English. In this case, Italian and EU candidates must declare this on the pre-enrolment portal.

Non-EU citizens must upload a copy of their diploma and any additional documentation indicating the language of instruction related to the foreign qualification. Candidates demonstrate their language proficiency in the application portal (in the section “upload language certificates” and/or “enroll for language exams”) after they have created an application in the section “create/manage applications”.

Applications to the selection procedure can be submitted from the date of the announcement of the public competition.

Each application is subject to a payment for administrative expenses (30 €). This registration fee cannot be reimbursed under any circumstances. In order to apply, you need to follow these steps:

• Create an account at Application Portal   and upload in electronic format a passport-size colour photo and a valid ID (passport or identity card, front/back);
• In the application portal, select the PhD programme and pay the registration fee of 30 € (see instructions in the portal);
• Fill in the online form in the same portal and upload the additional required documents (see the specific attachments to the call for each PhD programme).

Completing the application online is the only way to submit the application. Applications will not be considered if:

• incomplete or without compulsory entry qualifications/requirements;
• sent by e-mail.

It is necessary to upload the required documentation for each PhD programme chosen in the portal. A traffic light system indicates complete/incomplete documentation (missing documents will be marked in red).

Only documents uploaded by the deadline will be evaluated. It is advisable to apply online well in advance and to check the portal regularly to take note of any notes concerning missing and/or incorrect documents.

After the deadline, it will no longer be possible to complete/correct incomplete applications. The University is not liable if the portal is overcharged, due to the net or to the software itself.

To apply to the PhD programme, applicants must include the documentation listed below. Incomplete applications will be excluded from the competition.

Diploma supplement or the Master degree diploma together with the transcript of records of all passed exams (=certificate with exams list of Master degree):

• if graduated in Italy : diploma supplement or self-declaration (following the Italian D.P.R. no. 445/2000) of the degree awarded with the exams passed (if graduated) or just with the exams passed (if not graduated yet);
• if graduated abroad : diploma supplement or final degree certificate with exams passed (if graduated) or transcript of records (if not graduated yet) in Italian, German or English.

The above must contain the following information : final grade, exams passed with grade and date of passing, credit points, scientific fields (the latter only for Italian titles), university where the degree was or will be awarded and date of graduation.

For qualifications obtained abroad, also : scale of grades awarded by the home university (with a minimum final grade to obtain the qualification and a maximum final grade achievable). unibz reserves the right to request a description of the contents of the single courses and/or teaching hours where necessary.

If the certificates or diplomas were awarded by Italian public institutions, the relevant self-certification forms must be completed in the portal. If the certificates or diplomas were awarded by foreign institutions, the certificates or diplomas must be uploaded to the portal.

• Language certificate for English : if certificates were issued by Italian public institutions, a self-declaration must be uploaded in the portal. If certificates were issued by foreign public institutions, a scanned copy of the original certificate must be uploaded in the portal.
• Curriculum vitae (CV) in English (possibly following the EU format that can be downloaded here ). The CV must be updated with all data and information of the current year 2024.
• Two recent letters of reference from current or former professors, supervisors of theses or co-authors of articles published in peer-reviewed management journals, which need to be specifically prepared for the application to this PhD-program.
• A research statement in English (pdf-format, max. 1,200 words plus bibliography, tables, graphs, if applicable), which is scientifically rigorous and highlights the applicant's particular research interest and possible research questions as well as conceptual and methodological approaches. The research interests expressed in the research statement must be related to the research priorities of the faculty and consider the availability of supervisors in the proposed research area. Should the formal criteria, especially the volume limit, not be respected, the applicant will be excluded from the procedure. Note: a motivation letter is explicitly not required.
• Payment of the registration fee for the selection procedure.

All documents must be submitted in English (including copies of official certificates if they are in languages other than English, German, or Italian), otherwise the applicant will be excluded from the evaluation and selection process without further consultation.

Other documents/qualifications (recommended, if applicable)

• Publication list if relevant ; preferably with respective links to the full text
• Certificates of special courses or awards and special achievements of relevance with regard to the PhD program, or any other document that provides evidence of the qualifications necessary to successfully participate in our joint PhD program.

The selection procedure takes place in two stages:

• Evaluation of the candidates' scientific qualification and suitability on the basis of written documents (qualifications) (max. 70 points).
• The selection committee examines and evaluates the following elements:
• The Master's final grade or the grade point average of examinations taken in the Master program (in the case of candidates not yet in possession of the master’s degree) in combination with the quality of the issuing university(ies) or faculty/business school(s) by using recognized international ranking systems (total max. 20 points).
• Content proximity/affinity of previous education and qualifications to the subject content of the Joint PhD-program in Management, i.e., scientific proximity (total max. 20 points).
• Quantity and quality of scientific publications and/or research-related work experience (only those that match the subject content of the PhD-program in Management will be considered), if this represents added value for the PhD program and the targeted research area (total max. 7.5 points).
• Comprehensive evaluation of the curriculum vitae and letters of recommendation. If the candidate has a very good GMAT or GRE test (not older than five years) it will be credited here (total max. 7.5 points).     

Candidates who do not reach the threshold of 35 points (out of 55 points) regarding the evaluation of criteria 1) to 4) are declared ineligible at this stage and their research statement is not evaluated.

Evaluation of the research statement by designated or potential supervisors and/or other experts in the research field (max. 15 points)

Candidates who reach at least 45 out of max. 70 points in the assessment of criteria 1) to 5), including at least 10 points for the assessment of the research statement under 5), will be admitted and invited to the personal interview.

• Personal interview (max 30 points)
• The further assessment of applicants' qualifications and their aptitude as researcher is based on an interview (oral examination) (max 30 points).

During the interview, the selection committee will assess the following elements in particular:

• The applicant's preparation, education, and specific suitability for academic research in the field of Management at the Faculty of Economics and Management.
• The ability of the candidate to present his/her research interest and ambition and corresponding competencies and skills in a convincing manner in English.

Fees amount to € 189

In order to confirm your study place, you need to log on to the application portal and pay the tuition fees (€ 189) which includes the provincial tax for the right to study of € 173 and a revenue stamp of € 16. by one of the methods indicated on the portal by the deadline indicated above.

If you do not respect this deadline, you will automatically lose your study place. If, by paying the instalment you have confirmed the study place, there will be no refund of the tuition fees unless you are a non-EU applicant resident abroad and you do not receive the necessary documents from the Italian authorities in your country.

Visiting PhD students and sabbatical stay

The Faculty of Economics and Management at unibz and the Department of Economics and Management at UniTrento may accept PhD students from other universities who would like to undertake a short period of research (i.e., up to four months). We ask for your understanding that we are not able to accept all students who make an application to visit the Faculties and therefore  need to be selective  based upon qualifications and  mutual fit of the research interests .

To facilitate your application and ensure we can manage our limited resources effectively, prospective visiting PhD researchers need to find and contact a Collegio member, who is working in the same research area and willing to host the applicant. The host will forward the  complete application  (CV; purpose and research objective of the stay; topic of a research seminar to be provided at the beginning of the visit)  together with a recommendation for approval to the PhD Collegio .

In preparation for your visit with us, neither the Faculty of Economics and Management of unibz nor the Department of Economics and Management of UniTrento are able to provide access to Italy or any other secure data to visitors or visiting students. Volusia County launches new app dedicated to emergency preparations

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — In Volusia County, officials with emergency management are doing something different to help residents and visitors prepare for an emergency.

What You Need To Know

Volusia county emergency management created a free app for residents and visitors to use the app helps prepare people for emergencies such as hurricanes and wildfires the interface of the app shows you what shelters you can go to, where to pickup sandbags, allows you to send in damage reports and see active weather so far, there have been over 2,300 downloads on both the apple app store and google play store.

They have created a free app where users can get readily available information for disasters, such as floods, excessive heat, hurricanes, tornadoes and wildfires. 

Other features include shelter and sandbag locations, a form to report damage and a tab to see active weather.

Volusia County’s Emergency Management director, Clint Mecham, says rolling out this app in the middle of storm season is important for a number of reasons. 

“We try and provide as many avenues as we can to try to get information out to the public,” he said. “So, whether it’s through TV, social media, whatever it might be, this is just another way to bring all of those resources together in one place.”

Daytona Board Store owner Todd Ayres says the app could have helped him when part of his business was destroyed years ago.

“In 2017, we were impacted by a hurricane. It took the top layer of our roof off and peeled it back, but it didn’t do any damage on the inside,” Ayres said. “This is the first time I’ve really seen this app. I think it’s very important to know all these features, especially how to prepare weather wise and everything else. I think it covers everything.”

Volusia County Emergency Management says there have been over 2,300 downloads on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store as of July 31. 

The county also says they’re open to feedback from users as they would like to update the app to have more features in the future.

CT hospital made management change after ‘near misses’ in emergency department, records show

William Meier, a selectman from Somers, says that Johnson Memorial Hospital has been a pillar of the community from the time he was growing up.

The 92-bed hospital, located in nearby Stafford, has been operating for more than a century in north central Connecticut. Its services include a medical-surgical unit, ICU, emergency department and wound center, along with cardiac rehabilitation and physical therapy.

“Johnson Memorial is one of our largest employers, for the community, for the region,” Meier said. “You know, the hospital is one that many of our residents rely on because there’s not a lot of other hospitals close by.”

But like other rural hospitals, Johnson Memorial has struggled in recent years with staffing. The facility previously asked the state of Connecticut for permission to stop providing labor and delivery services, citing declining birth rates and difficulty recruiting and retaining staff. The state denied the request earlier this year, though a final decision is still pending.

Records reviewed by Connecticut Public show the hospital has also gone through some management changes. Health officials cited Johnson Memorial last year after learning its chief administrative officer was only present at the facility one day a week. Records show the chief nursing officer and some department directors were only there 40% of the time.

They worked other days at separate hospitals run by Trinity Health of New England, which operates Johnson Memorial and four other facilities in Hartford, Waterbury and Springfield, Massachusetts.

Peter Butler, a health care leadership expert, who worked as a health care executive for more than 35 years, said it’s important to have a manager present at the hospital who can oversee operations and respond to emergencies.

“They need to have somebody there who is responsible for taking quick action, particularly when it relates to patient safety issues,” Butler said.

Records show concerns were raised about hospital management last year after two patients tried to harm themselves in the emergency department. Both had been identified as experiencing suicidal ideation, according to a survey report from last year. The behavioral health unit in the department was closed at the time because of staffing issues, the report states.

State health officials working on behalf of the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services determined the hospital didn’t have a policy at that time on how to manage patients with behavioral health needs in the main emergency department.

Dr. Robert Roose, president of Johnson Memorial, said the hospital immediately addressed the deficiencies that surfaced last year. It took measures including reopening the behavioral health unit in the emergency department, and hiring a new executive director responsible for day-to-day management.

Roose said the hire was important “to not only announce to the community that we are here and open and safe, and are ready to take care of all their needs, but to be present and visible in a different way.”

“A year and a half ago, there were opportunities because of near misses that we have looked at now to change how we do things going forward,” he said.

John Brady is the president of a union representing hospital workers in Connecticut, including some at Johnson Memorial. He said the deficiency report speaks to the ongoing challenge of maintaining adequate staffing in Connecticut hospitals.

“The reason there is a shortage of bedside nurses and other health care professionals is because the working conditions are so poor,” he said. “You have people working, and trying to do a good job, something they’ve dedicated themselves to, and going home every day, and I mean, literally crying in the car, because they feel like they haven’t done a good job.”

Roose said the hospital has made progress on hiring more staff, and is consistently recruiting for positions ranging from primary care providers to direct care nurses. Nurse turnover has reduced by 50% in the past year, he said.

“That’s a story that says Johnson is here to stay,” Roose said. “We are open and providing great care, and staff want to work here.”

Meier, the selectman from Somers, said he hopes the hospital continues to be a vital asset for the region.

“I hope the hospital remains vibrant, continues to strengthen, and that they will give some more attention, particularly from senior leadership, to Johnson Memorial, and the important role it plays in our community,” he said.

MIMS Drugs4dent®: A digital resource to support safe medicine management and prescribing by dental practitioners

A clinical decision support tool for dentists has been successfully commercialised from Dr Leanne Teoh’s PhD research and sub-licensed to MIMS Australia to create MIMS Drugs4dent®

During her career as a pharmacist and dentist, Dr Leanne Teoh recognised that there was no specific resource to assist dentists with prescribing medications or provision of dental-specific drug information.

“Dental patients present at clinic with many pre-existing conditions like diabetes and heart conditions, and at all stages of life including during pregnancy and the elderly,” explains Dr Teoh.

“Many of these patients are already taking medications which have the potential to interact with drugs prescribed by their dental practitioner, as well as medications that may affect the outcome of dental procedures.

“So that’s how the idea for Drugs4dent® came about – to bridge the gap between drug knowledge and dental clinical practice.”

Dr Teoh developed the digital tool during her PhD research under the supervision of Professor Michael McCullough at the Melbourne Dental School.

The drug compendium and prescribing tool Drugs4dent® is now available through MIMS, the leading supplier of medicines information to Australian healthcare professionals.

MIMS Drugs4dent® provides information about the impact of drugs on dental procedures, oral adverse effects of drugs, safety checks such as drug and allergy interactions to reduce prescribing errors, helps dentists prescribe according to guidance and assists with calculating pediatric doses.

The digital tool is also designed to reduce unnecessary antibiotic prescribing by providing patient education about the appropriate use of antibiotics for dental conditions.

Antibiotics prescribed by dentists account for a significant 10 per cent of all antibiotics prescribed worldwide, but up to 55 per cent of those antibiotics are prescribed unnecessarily by dentists in Australia.

The challenge

Although there are many medication resources available, usually used by general practitioners and pharmacists, there was nothing available to support dentists at point-of-care when they manage patients taking medications.

For example, some medications impact healing by causing immune suppression or increasing a patient’s risk of bleeding, which need to be considered before invasive dental procedures such as tooth removal.

Dr Teoh and the team sought input from around 50 dental practitioners and dental specialists during testing and design, to ensure that Drugs4dent ® would meet the needs of dentists.

The opportunity

Dr Teoh and Professor McCullough identified the need for a digital prescribing tool to assist with appropriate prescribing, as well as understanding the effects of drugs on dental treatment.

By identifying gaps and barriers to appropriate prescribing during her PhD, Dr Teoh designed Drugs4dent ® to be a comprehensive, all-inclusive tool to enable safe prescribing and management of medicines in dentistry for dental practitioners.

As drug information constantly evolves, there was a need for a reliable source of drug information that was current and regularly updated. The team approached MIMS, as MIMS  is Australia’s most widely used and comprehensive medicines information provider to healthcare professionals for over 60 years.

In a pilot study, Drugs4dent® and targeted education produced a 45 per cent reduction in inappropriate dental antibiotic prescribing.

Drugs4dent® is a clinical decision support tool for dentists. It has been successfully commercialised from Dr Leanne Teoh’s PhD research through a licence arrangement with MIMS Australia as MIMS Drugs4dent® and it is now available by subscription.

The support

Dr Teoh was the 2022 recipient of the Brian (BDSc 1949) and Ann Dooley bequest to enhance teaching and learning facilities and support students and early-career researchers.

Dr Teoh was also awarded a Dean’s Innovation Grant and the Early Career Researcher grant for this research from the University of Melbourne, as well as the Investigator grant from the National Health and Medical Research Council.

The team and partners

Dr Teoh’s PhD was supervised by Professor Michael McCullough at the Melbourne Dental School. In partnership with The University of Melbourne’s Research, Innovation & Commercialisation, the team worked closely with MIMS Australia to ensure optimal research translation success.

MIMS Drugs4dent ® was launched on 2 August 2024 at the Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch Conference and is now available from MIMS Australia via subscription across Australia and New Zealand.

Good Academic Standing

To remain in good academic standing, doctoral students are expected to maintain a B grade point average.

Teaching Requirement

Students must teach or assist with teaching in a formally offered course for one full academic term. This engagement should include, at least, 8 hours of front-of-class teaching and 16 hours of teaching preparation time. The requirement may be fulfilled by completing a teaching fellow or instructor assignment at a Harvard University.

Special Field Exam

Students are required to pass the Special Field Exam at the end of the second year or beginning of the third year. This exam has two parts: a written exam and an oral exam based on a research paper a student has written.

Dissertation Proposal

By the end of their third year, all students are required to obtain approval of their dissertation proposal by their Dissertation Chair.

Dissertation

Students are required to write a dissertation, which typically takes the form of three publishable papers, to the satisfaction of their Dissertation Committee. The dissertation defense is oral and open to the public.
