How to Track the Results of Local Elections

2011 election results in tamilnadu

In 2018, there were elections in 49 of the 100 largest cities in the country, including elections for 25 mayoral offices. However, sometimes local elections without state or national significance don’t make it into the news. Here are three ways you can track the results of local elections in your area.

Visit the Politico Website

The Politico website has a real-time, up-to-date election results page where you can follow the results for congressional and gubernatorial races. If you want to see the WA state election results, for example, choose Washington from the drop down menu to look at recent results. This brings up a color-coded map that shows you which party won in different areas. You can also see how many votes went to each party and the percentage of voters who voted for various candidates.

Check News Outlets in Your Area

Most news outlets provide election updates on their website. Because these stations are local, they always provide information on the candidates, polling stations and other relevant details. At the top of the page, look for a last updated date stamp so you know if the information is current.

Check Out Ballotpedia

Ballotpedia is a not-for-profit organization that provides a thorough guide to municipal election results as well as federal and state elections. A list of new mayors, city counselors, sheriffs and other offices are listed according to state. The site has detailed election information for anyone who wants background information on the parties and the results.
